King Lazarus's Problem
King Lazarus took another deep breath before deciding to calm down and sort out the feelings that were threatening to overthrow him.
“What the hell have I done?" He asked, taking a seat on his king-sized bed. His hand was under his chin and he looked deep in through. “Ahhh!" He groaned as he felt his cheek burning red, he looked into a standing room, and indeed his cheeks were red.
“Why did I do that? Why did I kiss him? Who the hell cast a spell on me?" Lazarus asked rhetorically and hit his leg on the floor.
Lord Liam who had been in a corner of Lazarus's room, playing with his hands as he washed Lazarus fumbled. “Let me tell you something, buddy. No one cast a spell on you, you kissed him because you wanted to! Because you felt the need to, because he is the cure to your curse,” he said to Lazarus, tired of watching him.
Lazarus was shocked to hear someone's voice in his room, and he turned to the corner the voice came from swiftly, on seeing Liam he arched his eyebrows in confusion.
“What are you doing here, Liam? When did you enter my room?” Lazarus asked.
“Oh Lazarus, you were too busy thinking about little Daniel to even notice me," Liam said and faked a sad look. “I am not suckling, I just feel betrayed.” He pretended to be cleaning tears away from his eyes when he was just laughing internally.
Lazarus looked at him with furrowed brows, unmoved by his acting. “What do you want, Liam?" He sighed as that question dropped out of his mouth.
That seemed to be what Liam was expecting, and he jumped up, an excited smile on his face. “What is going on between you and the royal guard, Daniel? And have your hatred for gays suddenly disappeared?” He asked curiously.
Lazarus shook his head at Liam. "You just don't know how to mind your business, do you?" He asked.
“Apparently, I am your best friend, so your business is also mine,” Liam answered with a childish smirk.
Lazarus stood up and slowly moved towards Liam.
“Don't poke your long nose into my relationship! And who put that barbarian idea into your skull? Who told you we are best friends? You're just an annoying asshole which I have to live with for eternity!” Lazarus replied menacingly.
Liam's grin widened, unfazed by Lazarus's outburst.
"Ooh, someone's defensive," Liam teased, taking a step back. "I've known you for centuries, Lazarus. I can see right through you. You like having me around, and you want to ask me to be your bestie."
Lazarus's eyes narrowed. "You're overstepping boundaries, Liam. Back off."
Liam chuckled, "Boundaries? You're the one who's changing, Lazarus. You're falling for Daniel, and it's adorable."
"Shut up, Liam." Lazarus's face reddened further.
Liam's expression turned serious. "Listen, Lazarus. I'm not here to mock you. I want to understand. What's going on between you and Daniel? Is it just a passing infatuation or something more?"
Lazarus's anger dissipated, replaced by frustration.
"I don't know, Liam. Okay? I don't know what's happening. One minute I'm cursing him, the next...I'm kissing him."
Liam's eyes sparkled. "Ah-ha! I knew it! You've caught feelings!"
Lazarus glared. "Stop gloating, Liam."
Liam's grin softened. "Sorry, sorry. But seriously, Lazarus, this is a good thing. You deserve happiness."
Lazarus sighed, rubbing his temples. "I don't know if I can trust these feelings, Liam. Or if Daniel even feels the same way."
Liam's expression turned thoughtful. "Only one way to find out, Lazarus. Talk to Daniel."
"Talk to Daniel? If you realize the way I have treated him ever since our little romance in the pool, you'll know why Daniel hates me,” Lazarus replied and sighed heavily.
"You can't be too sure about that, you have to ask first," Liam replied, trying to cheer up Lazarus.
Lazarus his palm on his face in desperation. “Even if he feels the same way about me, I can't love him. Have you forgotten my curse?”
Liam shook his head slowly, "You will fall in love with a vengeful playboy whose mission is to destroy you,” he reminded Lazarus.
"Yeah, thanks for remembering my doom!" Lazarus replied with a sarcasm-filled voice.
Liam's expression turned somber. "I'm sorry, Lazarus. I didn't mean to rub it in."
Lazarus waved his hand. "Never mind. It's my fate. I'm doomed to suffer."
Liam stepped forward. "That's not true, Lazarus. You have a chance to break the curse. Daniel might be the key."
Lazarus raised an eyebrow. "You think Daniel would want to help me after how I've treated him?"
Liam shrugged. "Stranger things have happened. Besides, Daniel seems different. He's not like the others."
Lazarus pondered Liam's words. "Even if you're right, if truly he is my cure, how do I get him to fall in love with me?”
"Are you in love with him?” Liam asked back.
Lazarus shook his head, that is to say no. “I am not sure, buddy. I am not sure about anything again.”
Liam nodded thoughtfully. "Start by being honest with yourself, Lazarus. What do you feel for Daniel?"
Lazarus closed his eyes, reflecting. "I don't know...I feel drawn to him. I want to protect him, to make him happy."
Liam's eyes sparkled. "That's a good start. Now, be honest with Daniel. Apologize for your past behavior and show him your true self."
Lazarus's face contorted in uncertainty. “Look, if I am to be honest with you, I don't think I can afford to get him falling in love with me," he confessed.
“What do you mean? Why not?" Liam asked curiously.
Lazarus took a deep breath and closed his eyes as if remembering something painful. “No matter how much I try to get him to love me, he will still be after my life, he came for vengeance anyways, but the problem is what or who is he trying to avenge? And what have I done to deserve it?”
