Chapter 18

The wolves had disappeared and never appeared again after they had retreated. The police officers perceived that to be a scout as though they had wanted to gain information of the open earth.

If they didn't find these wolves and attack them all, they may come back again and this time, wipe out the whole country. The police officers had given orders for researchers to check what was under the ground that erupted.

They wanted to know the exact place that the wolves had come from but eleven people had died as a result of that and the best thing that they could do was to rebuild the roads again and make them stronger to avoid any more attacks.

They did just that but of course, it took longer because of the great destruction that had happened. The dead people couldn't be selected to be buried as relatives couldn't even recognize their dead so they just poured all the dead bodies into the broken ground.

The bodies were set ablaze which burnt with a very thick smoke. This was also done not just to get rid of the corpses but to also help melt and shape the walls of the ground and also to kill any living beast that was underground.

The wolves were escaping from underground which was where they lived, in Asark which was an enclosed earth. They were facing execution as a result of the bad ruler that was leading them.

The hudun's pack had overpowered the ultimate Alpha's pack and had seized power from them as he executed everyone from the ultimate Alpha's pack including that of Mara.

Those that had escaped the death and torture by Aaron and his pack were the ones that surfaces on the open earth.

Jason felt disturbed at not just his health condition but also for their safety. He needed to do something. He wanted to know if he could walk or stand on his feet but he knew that Mary would never allow him to try that, not in her presence!

He thought of an excuse and told her that he needed her to go and do something for him. He sent her on an errand to get him tea and she left, believing him.

He got out of bed as he started by stretching out a leg, carefully placing it on the ground as he felt pains in his thighs. He endured it as he tried for the other leg. He stood up on two of his feet as he felt so much pain.

He groaned in pain as his leg hurt. He fell to the ground as he couldn't get up because of the pain.

Mary got back into the ward and saw him on the floor.

"Jason?" She called out to him as she rushed towards him and helped him up.

"Sorry…did you fall from the bed?" She asked him after she had helped him back up to the bed.

"Yes I…I wanted to get…ah…ouch…" He writhed in pain. He was putting on shorts and saw his legs had grown hairy, More shorter than a normal human's leg. He immediately pulled he bed cover on top of his leg to avoid her from seeing it.

"I'm sorry i wasn't there when you needed something. Just don't step down from the bed again okay?" She instructed and he nodded in affirmative to what she said.

He was still in shock of seeing the hairs on his leg. It was as though he was starting to transform. He feared greatly. He didn't argue with her this time because he didn't want them to start fighting or him noticing the hairs on his leg.

"Can you get me water please?" He asked her to get her away from the room.

"Okay sure." She said to him as she stood up and went to the locker where his water was kept. She poured out some into a cup and handed it to him.

"That was quick." He exclaimed.

"What was quick?" She asked him as she sat down on he stool beside him.

"I mean…the water…" He said to her.

He didn't know that he was acting strangely to her and she was about to notice it. She saw part of his leg outside the sheets as she pulled it out.

"No don't do it!" He yelled at her.

"I should not do what?" She asked him.

"I mean don't pull the sheets…" He said to her.

"Why is that? Aren't you feeling hot?" She asked him.

"No…I'm feeling cold rather…the room is cold enough and I might get a cold if I expose my body." He gave her that as an excuse.

"Oh…I'm sorry about that. I'll just put off the air conditioner." She replied as she got up and switched off the air conditioner.

She opened the windows to allow air into the room as she was feeling hot and also for ventilation to get into the room.

"Jason are you alright?" She

The weather was very harsh and without the air conditioner which had now been put off, he began to sweat.

"What's that?" She asked him as she looked at him closely.

"What's what?" He asked her back in fear as he thought that the hair was beginning to spread all over his body.

What was he going to tell her? How would he explain to her that he now got signs of transformation? He feared greatly as he began to shake out of fear.

"Jason are you okay? Should I call the nurse?" She asked him.

Her question frightened him. Maybe she has seen the hair on his face. Maybe he was beginning to grow hairy or had some sort of transformation that he couldn't see.

"No no…don't…" He said to her.

"What? Why are you looking at me that way?" He asked her as he grew more tensed.

"I'm going to get a doctor because that's what you need right now." She said to him as she got up.

"Stop!" He yelled at her as he used his hand to hold back her hand. He looked at his hands and saw it had also grew hairer as hairs covered his nails. She got more frightened.

"Get me a mirror!" He yelled at her as his body shook violently. He immediately withdrew his hand from her before she could notice the hairs on them.

"I'm calling the doctor right away." She said as she quickly got up but he tells after her.

"I said get me a mirror!" He yelled again at her.

She feared him greatly and di as he asked of her. She searched for a mirror in the room but couldn't get one. She turned on her oh me to the a selfie camera and flashed it at him as he saw himself.

He looked like a normal human being but then, his face quickly changed into that of a werewolf with thick long dark hair. He scremaed into her phone as it fell from her hand. She also screamed back and ran out of the room to get a doctor.

The doctor rushed into the room alongside officer Mary. He called for a nurse and an injection was administered to him after which he was put to sleep.

"He will be fine, he needs some rest." The doctor said to officer Mary as she looked worried.

"Thank you doctor but please what is wrong with him?" Officer Mary asked.

"He might be suffering from anaphylactic shock which is caused by an allergy. He will need a change in his drugs and injections as it might be the case of the allergy that he is suffering from.

"Will he be fine after that?" Officer Mary asked the doctor.

"Well, I can't really say. Let's just wait and hope for the best." The doctor said to her as he left the room, followed by the nurse.

Mary sat by his side as she watched him sleep. She dried off his sweat with handkerchief as she closed the windows and turned on the air conditioner but she lowered it while she covered him with a blanket.

She sat by his side and sang his favourite song to him as she watched him sleep like a baby.

He love the song that was sang by Ed Sheeran as that was what he sang to her during their Valentine night dinner party. Officer Mary couldn't loose Jason to anyone or anything no matter the situation she found herself in.

Back at the station, doctor Charles, the new substitute of doctor Williams Guerira, had arrived and started working with doctor Zayyad Mingway. The specimens that they had collected had been analysed by them. They were already sure about Reagan being a wolf.

Doctor Charles was made the leading forensics of LCPD. They had been working on other different works before they also heard of the news of the evolution of the werewolves. They began to work on how to make a new experiment that can he used to kill the werewolves but had a disagreement on murdering them all, they had wanted to have one which they could use for their study.

They had already started working on an experiment on how to tame Reagan when he got captured again as they strategized and put together different plans.

A new portal was opened again in the jungle as some pack of wolves came into the open earth. They were in Plateau state as that was where the portal got opened. They were five in number. Aaron from the Hudun pack with some members from alpha and beta were amongst him.

They were still in their wolves' disguise as they changed into a human when it was dark at night. They went into the neighborhood and stole clothes of people from their line and carried them alongside with them to the big oak tree where they would be spending the night.

"Hope you all got clothes for yourselves?" Aaron, their leader, asked them as they replied in the affirmative.

"I need you all to go out by tomorrow and find out where Leowulf is. I need you to get every information that you can get and return back to me. Disguise yourselves as humans and mingle amongst them so that you won't be suspected." Aaron has out his orders.

"Yes your majesty!" They chorused.

"One more thing, refer to me as sir as the humans do here. We have to blend into their lifestyle. Do not do anything stupid to get caught. We need to find Leowulf by any means possible and kill him s that we csn have full control of Asark as a whole and not just that, we wouldn't have to eve return back there again as we would take over the open earth and dominate I Ayer wiping out the stubborn humans and leave the weaker ones to become our slaves. Am I making sense?" He asked them.

"Yes sir, that's a perfect idea." A beta replied.

"Good. I'll give you all names like that of humans. You, you are Mark, you, Luke, you Gabriel and you Sean. That's what you will call yourselves henceforth to avoid using strange names, is that understood?" Aaron said to them.

"Yes sir!" They chorused.

"Excuse me please." The new Mark raised up his hand to make a comment.

"Yes?" Aaron said to him as he gave him an audience to speak out.

"If we all have new names here, don't you think that Leowulf too has also gotten himself a name?" Mark asked.

"You are right…I never thought of that." Aaron replied.

"For that, I'll make you the leader of the team. You will be the second in charge after me. Go out tomorrow and find out what his new name is and where he stays." Aaron said to Mark.

"Yes sir, thanks. My team and I will do just that." He replied as he stepped backwards.
