Chapter 40: Shh

I picked on the side of my nails, slowly getting rid of the white nail polish on it.

One reason why I wasn't a fan of nail polish.

I enjoyed painting my nails but the fun usually ended the moment I was done with it. Most times, I unintentionally picked on it and at the end, it got all chipped with some of it beneath my nails.

I'd been in the car for minutes, nervous hell would let lose the moment I stepped into the building.

The drama Cassandra caused during prom was enough to make me the number one trending topic for days and dating Dylan was a whole topic on it's own.

Throughout my previous day in school, I succeeded in completely avoiding Cassandra's unnecessary drama but I knew I wouldn't if the news got out I was dating her dream man.

Not that I was scared of her or something, I just wanted to have a normal day. At least, after all that happened the last two days.

I'd given the school something to talk about.

"You do understand we've been here for minutes right?"

I turned to Dylan who had also been in the car with me and watching me take off my nail polish.

"Yeah?"

"Look, it's gonna be fine in there, okay? Geez, you make it look like you're gonna die or something"

"You don't understand Dylan. They all know we're dating which is all your fault if I might add. They'll whisper and stare and laugh a_"

"Laugh? They're not gonna laugh silly, they'll admire you"

"Admire?"

"Yes cause you're my first girlfriend since Lucy and that was in elementary school"

"You had a girlfriend in elementary s_"

"Not the point sweetie" He cut me off "The point is, I haven't dated any girl since then so if they glare at you, it's jealousy"

He leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my cheek before pulling away and maintaining a centimeter distance away from me. His breath fanned my fanned my face as his eyes scanned every detail of my face.

His lips turned curved upwards as he said "Your bruises are gone"

"All thanks to you"

He placed a warm palm on my cheek, cupping it with his hand and and pulling me closer. The tip of my nose came in contact with his as we got closer and in a second, his lips were on mine.

It was just like the first time, except I wasn't as surprised as before. However, I felt the sudden jolt in me. The feeling of happiness or whatever was making me smile.

I had no idea if it came from the fact he was the first guy or because for the first time, I felt everything was gonna be alright.

He sucked in my lower lip and dug his fingers into my hair, messing up the sleek ponytail I had gone through so much to perfect earlier that day.

My arms which were formerly used to finding their way around his neck, attached themselves to his chest. His heart thumped violently beneath my palms, just as fast as mine a_

"Dylan?"

Why does this always happen?

I pulled away after hearing a feminine voice behind me and you wouldn't believe who it is. Actually you would cause I'd said so much about her earlier.

Anyways, drumroll please

Cassandra.

"Cassandra" Dylan said first, waving his hand at her cause that's what mature people do.

"Y_you're with h_her now?"

Her finger was in the air as tears filling her eyes. The look on her face could only be described to be disappointment and hurt. It was similar to the one I had when we had the 'it's just a kiss' talk, except I didn't cry.

To be honest, I kinda felt bad for her.

I know, she did a lot cruel things to me and humiliated me in front of the whole school but I understood the pain of loving someone so much and getting crushed after discovering they didn't feel the same.

I only experienced that for two days but it was two days of so much pain, I lost interest in the things I never thought I would.

Like food.

"Yeah"

"I thought i_it was a lie" She whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Why?"

"I'm so sorry" I replied and for the first time, feeling so bad for her.

She gave me one last look before walking away, her heels clicking on the ground as she took each step.

Once she was out of view, I turned to Dylan who was busy playing with the hem of my shirt.

"Dylan"

He sighed and turned to me "Do we really have to talk about it?"

"She's hurt"

"She hurt you too, remember? You're meant to be happy she's finally getting what she deserves"

"Yeah but I think she shouldn't have to this way. You could've told her the nice way"

"I would've loved to but there's no nice way. She's just gonna scream, yell and say stuffs about you that aren't true"

"She doesn't look like she's gonna be okay"

"She will, don't worry, she'll meet a new guy and get over it soon. She had a boyfriend before she met me, you know?"

"I hope she gets better"

After spending about an hour writing chemistry test, I finally got out feeling like I walked over mount Everest.

After walking through the crowd of teenagers with almost every eye on me, I had to deal with one hundred chemistry questions.

The only good thing about the day was how colorful my locker was.

Note the sarcasm.

I got quite a lot of notes with anonymous messages attached to it and none of them were in my favour. Most were about how I'd get my heart broken or how much of a slut I was.

At least, with the ones I read.

I wasn't so surprised about how many people turned out to be mad at me for having a relationship with him.

Anyways, it was an hour after the last bell and only a few people were still in the building. The hallways were almost empty except the two familiar girls leaning against my locker and grinning creepishly. S

"Can I act like you guys aren't here?"

"Come over here sweetie, you have a lot of explaining to do"

I groaned and walked over to my locker, trying my best to avoid their stares.

"So" Natasha started "We've been hearing things"

"Things we need a proper explanation for" Esther continued, folding her arms over her chest and throwing me a silly wink.

"Yeah, it's true. Dylan and I are a thing now. Happy?"

"Of course we're happy for you" Natasha said, rushing towards me and giving me a tight hug.

Very tight hug.

Her arms were around my waist, holding me like her life depended on it while my arms, which were slowing losing blood supply, were loosely around her. I gave a tap on her back before saying "Can't breathe"

I took in a deep breath the moment she let go of me, taking a few steps back before regaining my composure.

"I don't understand" Esther started "First, it started  with the prank, then you hated him so much, you pranked him too, then Cassandra humiliated you and now, you're dating him?"

"Yeah?"

"Look, I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't approve of this"

"Esther_"

"I don't wanna hear it Nat, I wouldn't be a good friend if I hid the truth from you. He's a player, he messes around with girls, remember? He was Cassandra's boyfriend_"

"He wasn't Cassandra's boyfriend. She just got so possessive over him"

"And he cheated on her a lot of times. He pranked you for no reason at all_"

"And I pranked him too"

"The point is I don't trust him, okay? She might be okay with you dating him but I'm not and you gotta understand I'm doing this cause I care about you."

"I understand you Esther and thanks for caring but Dylan's a lot more than you think he is. I know he's done a lot of things in the past but he's different now"

"I'm not gonna say I believe you but if it makes you feel better then I'm not gonna stop you. However, if he breaks your heart, I'll have to use my pocket knif_"

"No, you're not" Natasha cut her off "And you're not using a pocket knife."

"Not if there's a reason to_"

"That's enough. I'm not gonna get my heart broken but thanks for the support" I paused "And threat"

"Oh, and you should get going cause Dylan stopped by earlier"

"Then let's get going"

"We can't, we're on detention till thirty minutes from now" Natasha sighed, crossing her arms in annoyance "Because Esther decided it'd be great for us to paint the principal's office"

"You painted the principal's office? How did I miss this?"

"Because you were being all lovey dovey with Dylan a_"

"Esther!" The speakers boomed, sending echoes through the hallways "Report to the principal's office else you'll be the lunch lady for the rest of your life!"

"Ouch" Esther chuckled "Looks like someone's got his panties in a twist."

"We gotta go" Natasha said, pulling Esther as they sprinted further away from me.

"Have a great life!"

After a few seconds, they were out of my sight.

Laughing at Esther's rebellious attitude, I turned and walked out of the school, finally relieved from the burden of chemistry test.

Not to sound all creepy but I was happy I was going to be with my sweet marshmallow bed again.

Ha! You thought I was gonna say Dylan, didn't you?

In your face.

Anyways, I got to the parking lot a minute after to find a few cars were parked, one including the familiar sleek black one I knew to be Dylan's.

With a smile on my face, I took quick steps towards the car. I was next to the vehicle before noticing Dylan was no where in sight.

I place_

"Shh"

I felt something metallic press against my back followed by large strong hands hovering over my mouth.

"One more move and you're dead"
