Chapter 16

Lucas s POV
Maxine and I did NOT say a word while returning to the rest house. I know the fear I saw in its eyes before. I can't blame him. Who is sensible enough to accept someone like me?
It's like it's hard to accept that the person you love doesn't accept you.
We met Nanay Perlita but I couldn't greet her because of the weight she was feeling.
I immediately went upstairs and headed for the room. I want to be locked up all day. I don t want to see Maxine leave. I can not do it.
IT'S past nine in the evening but I'm still awake. Drowsiness is too elusive for me ... or is my brain just busy?
I turned on the t.v. for somehow amusing. But I almost ran out of all the chanel I still didn t like. I don t know what I want to watch. It is also useless. Until I decided to just turn that off. I lazily threw the remote and leaned my head against the headboard of the bed.
Isn't seven years enough? I guess I can do anything to correct the mistake ... but it seems like the pain just keeps coming back.
Shake me off the bed. I might die of grief if I don t go out. I could hear Maxine's voice in every corner of the room.
I could NOT continue picking up the cabbage when I opened the refrigerator when I saw the door close and open outside. Footsteps followed. Noah is probably back. I ordered it to be delivered to the Mother and daughter earlier.
I just get a pitcher of water instead of cabbage. I stopped using glasses and just stumbled upon it. When my thirst was quenched, I just put down the pitcher and sighed and raised my hands on the table.
Damn!
"Can we talk?"
From the nod I lifted my face to the doorway. Suddenly my chest throbbed.
"I'm sorry earlier. I was surprised."
Maxine came over and stopped on the other side of the table in front of me.
"It's late. Why did you come back? " I casually question despite the joy I feel because of its presence.
"I don't want to leave without everything being fixed."
I did not say a word. I just looked at him and waited for what he would say next.
"I-if what you said before is true ..." it suddenly stopped as if hesitating. Nor did I escape the slightest swallow of it. "H-you're not going to eat me, are you?"
I don t know if to laugh or not. His face was really serious when he said that.
"I'm a vegetarian."
Long before it got what I said. And then he sighed. It's disgusting.
"I'm not joking."
"Me too."
"I hate you!"
I kept smiling. Maxine was already crying. I turned to hug it.
I will wait another year. Maybe it s not our time yet. It s hard but I have to respect its decision.
CHAPTER 27
Lucas s POV
"F*CK!" I gritted, dropping out of my bigbike. From the parking area, I went back through the ground s school heading to COM Department.
I couldn't be bothered, knowing that Maxine was with that Hevo, I was scared. I know Maxine liked him .. as what as Hevo felt the same way.
Damn! Here I am again, acting like a jealous boyfriend which is not right, and I know I should not. CANIS belongs to CANIS, and that is the rule. But could you blame me? I might be a wolf but like human and any other existing living creatures, I still have a heart .. and I can t control 'em.
I was in the middle of the ground when a familiar smell bit my nose, it grabbed my attention. A threat.
I looked around at the students, looking for who it was from.
And because of my ability, I tracked down the owner. Instead of going to COM, I took the road to the west where a man in a black leather jacket approached the group of students.
Unfortunately, I was not able to catch him. But he has not gone far, I could still smell him.
I followed the smell until I reached the tall wall at the back of the school. And outside there are tall trees .. where no student walks here, so it's not surprising that the man can hide.
I stepped-back so I could spurt and get across the wall. I just stood for a moment and let my senses scan the area. Napaismid ako.
"You can't hide from me, bastard ..!" I mumbled as I jerked a sudden hop above the trunk.
In the form of a monster, it looked like an arrow that the man had fled. It was like we were playing chase above the trees. Because of the same ability and speed we ran, we were away from school ..
The monster jumped down and I did the same. It confronted me and aggressively whimpered, salivating and ready to attack. And so I stepped-back instinctively moving into a defensive crouch. But instead of taking a plunge, the male wolf broke into a wild run. I promptly ran after him, full of speed .. and even more my legs could. Nakapagtataka. Why didn't it even do anything? He did not touch me.
In an instant I was able to chase the monster, I jumped and hugged it in the back so we rolled. With the sheer force of the impact every part we pass leaves a mark. We wrestled ... but it didn't dare to hurt me. With all my strength I punched him in the left side of his face. It collapsed. But instead of getting up and fighting, it gradually returned to its normal form.
"What do you want?" I could not help to ask, breathing for air. "And why didn t you fight back?"
The man who I estimate was only a few years older than me got up, and seemed to have wiped the cracked lip in the afternoon. It was only then that I noticed its layered ash-blonde hair; blue eyes and moderately pointed nose. Unlike before, it no longer has garments that were probably damaged due to its changing form. It smiled plainly then.
"How could I do that to the crown Prince? I ought to protect you and keep you alive. " its casual response and seemingly indifferent to nudity.
I looked at him in bewilderment. I'm not easy to trust but it looks sincere and true.
"Besides, hurting you would be the last thing I would do --- that is, if I would have the guts to face your Grandfather."
I was even more confused by the last thing it said. Does this have to do with Grandpa? But why?
Hevo s POV
FOUR hours passed but Maxine and I were still in the room. I sat in the armed-chair near the door, while in the chair three apart from me sat Maxine.
"Don't you have any plans to turn on the light ..." Maxine said.
The light was still turned off, but there was light from outside so I could almost see the figure.
I reached for the switch and turned it on. Maxine glanced at the watch she was wearing and frowned afterwards.
"I want to go home ..." he muttered as if he was just saying that to himself.
"Sorry hah .." I uttered with guilt. She shifted her gaze at me, pouting her lips that made me smile. This girl never fails to amuse me.
"What kind of drama is this? Let me tell you, Mr. Fontanella, there is no ransom payment for my mother. You can't find anything from me. "
I know it's just a joke. And that was one of the things I liked about him, sense of humor.
"Then now you're smiling .."
I averted my eyes from Maxine because of the ringing of my phone. I stood up and answered that, facing the door. It was my Ten year old Niece who is calling.
"Yes, baby? Nah, I will be late. Okay ---. " I was interrupted by the arms wrapping around my waist from behind. I was nailed and stunned for awhile, feeling her body against mine made my heart pounding a little bit faster. But I was alerted when his hands slowly dropped to my pocket. I know what she s thinking.
"Oppss, no Maxine! You will leave me alone hah! " I laughed and walked away from it.
She puffed an air, looking at me with annoyance.
"You want to play, hah .." he said w-in-arms up both arms and approached my direction. "I can't stop you!"
Maxine tried to take her phone out of my pocket so I avoided it altogether. I have no bad intentions. I just don t want the three of us to face each other on a date. Ayoko no n.
"Err --- come back to that. That s mine, Hevo! "
"Wait Maxine, don t be there. What!"
I can t help but laugh. I'm tickled.
"Give it back because .. It's mine, what!"
"Ah, enough ..!"
I grabbed Maxine's hands and wrapped them around her back. It got close to me. Her face is a few inches away from mine to be exact, cause my heartbeat to speed up, it seems to have been abnormal.
What I did seemed to help because Maxine calmed down for a moment. That's when its face turned tomato color. The cute.
"Have I ever told you that you have a pair of a beautiful eyes ..?" I couldn t help to form a smile upon looking at it.
They are beautiful.
I next stared at its lips. It's funny .. but they seem to have a magnet, it's mesmerizing and I can't help myself. Out of desire, I bowed ... but Maxine quickly tilted her face.
"Don't .. please. Maxine said in a low voice.
I secretly bit my lower lip and just smiled raw. I was rejected.
"Is anyone else there?"
It was a voice from outside that turned both Maxine and me in the direction of the door, knocking and forcing it open. The janitor probably of the school.
"Yes, there is someone here! Please open it, man! " Maxine's sudden cry before I could even stop it.
Because there was a slight noise from the rattle of the keys and at the same time the turning of the lock and the opening of the door. Maxine had a chance to escape. He immediately walked away and left the room, he didn't even say goodbye and didn't even bother to bring his books. I picked them up and followed them out of the room.
"Hey, wait!"
I did a running walk to catch up with Maxine, it was too fast to walk.
"Max, wait!"
"Do not talk to me..!" Maxine's tone rose but it wasn't angry.
I accelerated my pace even more until I could walk with it.
"Come on, I am sorry about it. I was just carried away. "
It didn't speak, it just looked straight ahead.
"Maxine ..."
She suddenly stopped and faced me. Her eyes were plain that makes me feel a little bit fussed.
"Okay .. but I have my phone."
I examined its face for about ten seconds before I complied. I puffed an air in disbelief, digging her phone from my pocket. How important is that man s call and it can t be bothered with his cellphone.
"Fine .." I uttered submissively. "But lemme take you home. "
"No ---."
"Forget it. If you reject me again .. then you ll get your phone some other day. "
I was about to turned my back when she promptly held my wrist. I raised an eyebrow upon looking at her, seeming to ask.
"Oo na ba' yan? " I asked without a word coming out of its mouth.
It looked like it was going to protest but eventually nodded as well. I smiled as I returned the phone.
Maxine and I didn't say a word until we reached the school parking area. But it s fine with me .. being with her even in a single second is such a huge thing. I'm content.
"Maxine ..." I whispered here, I opened the door.
Maxine didn't move, she stared at the parked cars until she was stuck in a motorbike.
"Maxine ..." I said again.
Draw the frustration on its face before entering the vehicle.
I know she s looking for him.
ITS quarter to Eleven, we were already in front of the mansion where Maxine works but I decided not to wake her up first. I really meant to slow down the car so I could be with him for a long time.
