Chapter 2

Charlotte looked at him for a few seconds before focusing on the screen in front of her.
Melvin opened the door fully and walked in. He moved closer to her, trying to get her to look at him but she wasn't. He could tell she was angry.
"Babe," he called. "I am sorry."
Charlotte ignored him and picked up a pen to write a few words in her journal. He held her hand and she pulled it away quickly.
"I am working," she mumbled.
"Do you need me to help you out?" Melvin asked.
Charlotte dropped the pen in her hand and stared at him. "All I need you to do is take care of Liam until Hannah returns. Can't you do that?"
"Of course, I can. I was just..."
"Busy?" Charlotte asked. "You think I am not?"
"I know you are. I..."
"Then why are you not helping me out?"
Melvin sighed. He wasn't used to taking care of Liam. Hannah has always done that.
Yes, he loves to spend time with him but taking care of him is a different thing entirely.
"I..." He sighed. "I will do better next time."
"You said that yesterday," Charlotte mumbled.
Melvin moved closer to her and hugged her. "I am promising you this time."
"Fine," Charlotte mumbled.
"Are you still angry with me?"
"I am," Charlotte answered. Melvin kissed her and she smiled. "Fine. I am not."
She can't stay angry with him for a long time. Can she?
He pushed her hair backward. "I have missed you. I..."
He lifted her jaw to kiss her but she placed her index finger over his lips.
"Not now, Melvin. I still have a lot of work to do."
"Can I kiss you for a few minutes?" Charlotte shook her head. "Okay, just a few seconds."
"Fine," she mumbled. "You..."
Melvin kissed her before she could finish up her sentence.
They kissed for a while. Melvin wanted more but she needed to work. She moved away and Melvin groaned.
"Babe, I..."
"Can you at least let me finish up my work?"
Melvin moved back. "Sure. But..."
Charlotte furrowed her brows. "But what?"
He gave her a seductive smile. "I will be waiting."
Charlotte tried not to blush. She picked her pen up and began to write out some words again.
Melvin moved closer to her. "Are you sure you do not want me to help? You look so tired."
Charlotte shook her head. "You don't have to worry about..."
"I am helping out," Melvin answered.
He pulled a chair close to Charlotte and sat down. "Just tell me what you need help with and I will do it."
"Can you help me go through these documents then?"
Melvin nodded. "Do you need me to bring my laptop?"
Charlotte shook her head. "You can use my laptop. I will use the company's laptop."
They began to work together, with Melvin asking questions at intervals. With Melvin's help, Charlotte was able to finish up most of her work in a short time.
She stared at the wall clock. It was past midnight already.
"I think we should stop now," she said.
"Are you done?" Melvin asked.
Charlotte stood up. "I will finish them at the office tomorrow. Thanks for helping out."
Melvin put off the laptop and stood up. "I am going to take my bath. Do you want to come with me?"
Charlotte shook her head. "I am not doing that." She gestured. "Go."
Melvin pulled her closer to him. "Don't you want me to help you relieve your stress? I can..."
"Melvin? I..."
"Don't you think it's time for Liam to have a baby brother or sister?"
Charlotte furrowed her brows. Melvin is not suggesting that she gets pregnant. Is he? This is not the right time for that. She already has a lot up her sleeve.
She shook her head. "Liam is still a baby. He doesn't need a baby brother or sister yet."
"He is four. He..."
"You mean he is almost four?"
"In a few months, he will be. He can have a baby..."
Charlotte shook her head. "I am not getting pregnant, Melvin. Not anytime soon."
"But..."
"I am not going to have this conversation with you. I am going to take my bath."
Charlotte left Melvin in the room and went to the bathroom to take her bath.
When she was done, she returned to the room to get dressed in her pajamas and then lay on the bed.
Melvin went to take his bath too. He returned and joined her on the bed.
"Can we at least talk about it now?" He asked.
Charlotte turned to face the other side. "Good night, Melvin."
Melvin sighed. "Good night, love."
**
Charlotte felt a little hand touch her face and she opened her eyes.
"Mummy?" Liam called out. "Good morning, mummy."
Charlotte placed her hand on Liam's face and smiled. "Good morning, my darling." She sat up. "Oh, I see. You've taken your bath. Did your daddy do that?"
Liam nodded. "Mummy?" He called. "I want a baby..."
Charlotte placed her hand over his mouth quickly.
Liam wants a baby brother or sister? Did Melvin instigate him to say that?
"Have you eaten?" She asked, taking her hand off his mouth.
Liam shook his head. "No, mummy."
"I will go make something for you to eat," she mumbled.
She stood up from the bed and headed to the bathroom to quickly brush her teeth. When she was done, she left the room with Liam and they found their way to the kitchen. Melvin was in the living room, reading a magazine.
He looked at her. "You're awake?"
"Yes, I am. What did you tell Liam?"
Melvin furrowed his brows. "I did not tell him anything."
"And you want me to believe that? You..."
Charlotte's phone began to ring. It was Gina calling. "Honey, can you make something for Liam to eat? I need to send a few documents to Gina."
Melvin nodded. "Sure. But..."
Charlotte was out of sight before he could finish up his words.
He groaned. What is he supposed to give to him?
"Liam?" He called. "Let's go find you something to eat."
They got to the kitchen and Melvin began to search through the cabinets.
"Daddy, I want some pancakes," Liam said.
How is he supposed to make that?
"How about you take some cereal?"
Liam shook his head. "Pancakes."
"I can't make those. Let's eat cereal until your mummy..."
Liam began to whine. "Pancake, Daddy. Liam wants some pancakes."
"Fine," Melvin answered. "I will make some. Can you stop crying now?"
Liam wiped his tears and smiled. "Pancakes, Daddy."
Melvin brought out his phone to check out the recipe for pancakes.
"It seems easy," he mumbled.
He brought out the ingredients from the cabinets according to the recipe he saw. Melvin began to mix them following the recipe.
By the time he was done, the kitchen was in a big mess, and the pancakes... They weren't looking like one.
He groaned. It was more difficult than he had thought.
"What is going on here?" Charlotte asked. She had just walked into the mess in the kitchen. "Melvin!" She screamed. "What have you done?"
Melvin chuckled slightly. "I was only trying to make pancakes for Liam but..."
Charlotte clenched her fist. "Melvin... J-just clean this up."
Melvin looked around. How is he supposed to clean this up?
He faked a call with Ryan. "Oh yes. I am on my way now... Babe, I have to go. Ryan is in trouble." He moved closer to her and pecked at her. "I am sorry, babe. I will make it up to you."
"Melvin, get back here," Charlotte called after him but he was gone.
