Chapter 15

Bella wondered why Charlotte was asking that question; it was obvious that Melvin was still deeply in love with her.
Charlotte must have been stressed out. Bella thought.
She decided to encourage Charlotte instead. She also told her that Melvin must have a reason for not coming to her.
"Maybe he feels sorry and doesn't want to provoke you further?" Bella said. "Or he knows you need space and he is giving you that."
Charlotte shook her head. She doesn't believe that.
Why didn't he make all these clear to her? If he can't get through to her, why did he not call or text her?
"He should have called..."
She chuckled slightly. He did call and text her but she switched her phone off.
"What were you trying to say?" Bella asked.
"Nothing," Charlotte answered, standing up. "I am going to get my phone."
"Do you want to call Mia?" Bella asked, standing up too.
"I want to check for messages from Gina," Charlotte answered.
Bella smiled. "Just Gina?"
Charlotte nodded. "Yes, Gina. My phone has been switched off for too long. I don't know what you are thinking though, because I am not going to check Melvin's messages."
"I never said that. Did I?"
Charlotte smiled. "I know you." She stretched slightly. "I think I am hungry now."
"I will order some food. Do you have any preference?" Bella asked.
Charlotte shook her head. "Just get me the usual."
Bella nodded. "I will quickly do that and then call Mia. She would want to know if we arrived safely."
Charlotte nodded. "Please do. I want to talk to her too."
They both went to pick up their phones. Charlotte switched on hers while Bella ordered food first before calling Mia.
"Hello, Bella," Mia's happy voice could be heard.
"Hi, Mia. How are you?" Bella answered.
"I am fine. How was the trip? Have you gotten to the hotel yet? Where is Charlotte?"
"I am here," Charlotte answered.
"And yes, we are in the hotel already," Bella added. "We got here a few minutes ago."
"I am happy to hear that," Mia said.
"How is Liam?" Charlotte asked.
"Liam? Come speak to your mummy and godmother," Mia said.
"Mummy?" Liam's little voice took over the phone. "Aunt Bella?"
"Hello, baby," Charlotte answered.
She was happy to hear Liam's voice.
"Hello my little cutie," Bella said.
Bella and Charlotte spoke to him for a few minutes before he handed over the phone back to Mia.
"Guess who I saw at the airport after you left yesterday?" Mia said.
"Who could that be?" Bella asked.
"Melvin?" Charlotte said.
It must be Melvin. She saw him too.
"Yes, it's Melvin," Mia answered. "How did you know that, Charlotte? Don't tell me you saw him ?"
"She did," Bella answered.
"What did he say?" Charlotte asked.
"He wanted to know where you were heading to. I did not tell him though," Mia replied.
"Is that all?" Charlotte was a bit disappointed.
"Well," Mia said. "I think he knows you are angry with him. And he is sorry for hurting you."
Charlotte shook her head. That's not what she wants to hear.
Why did he not speak to her if he was sorry?
"I asked him why he did not speak to you before you left and he said..." Mia took a deep breath. "You are angry with him and he doesn't want to provoke you any further."
"I told ya," Bella said.
She was right about that.
Charlotte sighed but said nothing.
"He has called me so many times today just to ask if you have arrived there already," Mia said. "But I told him I couldn't get through to you yet. He was so worried. He has been calling you but your line was switched off. He sent you a lot of messages too. He told me that."
Charlotte nodded. Mia is right. She had seen a few of the messages already.
"Are you going to call him?" Bella asked.
Charlotte sighed. She hasn't thought about that yet.
"I will think about it," she answered.
"I think he really feels sorry this time," Mia said. "I am not asking that you forgive him or return home soon. But I hope you can let him know that you are fine."
"I think so too," Bella answered. "That will also put your mind at rest. Don't you think?"
"Fine, I will do that," Charlotte assured them.
"You won't believe he came to visit Liam before he went to school," Mia said.
Charlotte furrowed her brows. He did?
"That is so nice," Bella said.
"You mean he visited Liam?" Charlotte asked in surprise.
"He did," Mia answered. "He promised to come see him after work too."
Has Melvin really changed? Charlotte wondered. She shook her head. He hasn't changed. He just loves his son.
"Enough of Melvin's talk," Mia ended the silence. "Tell me, how is Isla Verida? It's a beautiful place right?"
"It is," Bella answered. "We haven't visited any places yet though. But I have a few pictures I took on our way to the hotel."
Charlotte furrowed her brows. "When did you take pictures?"
"While you were thinking about Melvin," Bella teased.
"I wasn't thinking about him," Charlotte defended.
"I think you were," Bella answered. "It was obvious you missed him."
Charlotte rolled her eyes. She did not miss him.
"Whatever," she mumbled.
"Please send me those pictures," Mia said.
Bella nodded. "I will."
"And me too," Charlotte said. "I need to see the things I missed out."
Bella talked about the places she thinks they can visit during their stay in Isla Verida. They talked for a few minutes until there was a knock on the door.
"I think our food is here," Bella said, standing up. "I will go get it."
Charlotte and Mia began to talk about other things as they waited for Bella's return.
"Aunt Mia?" Charlotte could hear Liam's voice from the other side of the phone.
"I have to go. Liam needs me," Mia said. "Don't forget to send me more pictures when you go out."
"We will do that," Bella answered, dropping the tray of food on the table.
They exchanged a few greetings and the call ended.
Charlotte stood up. "I am going to take my bath."
Bella nodded. "I need to do that too. I will send a few messages to my secretary, while I wait for you to be out."
"I also need to send some emails to Gina, but I will do that before I retire to bed at night."
"You can send them in the evening. Can't you?" Bella asked.
"I already promised to go out with you in the evening," Charlotte answered.
Bella smiled. She had asked that question because she wanted to confirm if Charlotte had made up her mind to go out with her.
Thank goodness she will.
"That's a promise now?" Bella asked.
Charlotte nodded. "It is. We need to send a lot of pictures to Mia. Don't we?"
"Of course, we do." Bella smiled. "And we need to have fun too."
"We definitely will," Charlotte answered, smiling too.
Bella smiled. This is her best friend!
