Chapter 8
"Do you want to speak about it?" Bella asked.
"I don't want to, Bella," Charlotte answered.
"Then I will get us a ticket," Bella said.
She wasn't going to press further. She was certain Charlotte would talk about it when she feels comfortable doing that.
"You don't have to come with me," Charlotte answered. "You still have some work to..."
"I can always do them over there," Bella cut Charlotte short. "I can't let you go alone. And don't try to change my mind."
Charlotte sighed. She had wanted Bella to have enough time to put things in place before leaving, but it seems that won't be happening.
"Fine," Charlotte said. "You can come with me."
Bella chuckled. "Let's go have some fun, baby girl, okay? By the way, I will need you to go through my writeup when I am done. You will help me do that, right?"
Charlotte nodded. "Sure. I have to go now. I still have to drop Liam at the old House, and also get my bags ready."
"Are you still coming over?" Bella asked.
"Yes. But maybe a little late."
"I'm having a meeting by ten, though, and it will last until noon."
"I also have a meeting by eleven," Charlotte answered. "I will stop by before going to the office."
"I will be waiting," Bella said.
The call ended, and Charlotte sighed. She stared at the wall clock. It was a few minutes past eight.
"Mummy?" Liam called.
Charlotte placed her hand on his cheek and smiled. "Will you go home with Aunt Mira?" Charlotte asked.
She had decided that she would call Mira and ask her to come pick Liam up. That way, she can get her bags ready, get to Bella's Fashion School early, and also get to her company in time for her meeting.
Liam nodded. He was willing to go.
"Then I will call your aunt."
Charlotte placed a call to Mira and asked if she would be able to come and pick Liam up.
"On my way," Mira answered. "But is there a problem? Your voice doesn't sound cheerful."
At first, Charlotte insisted that she was fine. She wasn't going to tell Mira, just the way she had kept it away from Bella, but Mira was persistent.
"Fine. It's your brother," Charlotte finally opened up.
She told Mira what had happened that morning, and Mira was furious.
Why would he treat her that way?
"I am going to call him and tell him the piece of my mind," Mira said.
"Please don't," Charlotte said. "I have decided to leave tonight."
"He doesn't know about it. Does he?"
"He doesn't."
"That serves him right," Mira answered. "I won't tell him either. I am so sorry, my brother treats you this way."
Why is Mira sorry? She did nothing wrong.
Charlotte smiled. "You don't have to be sorry, Mira."
Mira sighed. Charlotte doesn't want her to be sorry, but of course she should. After all, Melvin is her brother.
"You should go get your things ready. I will be there in a few minutes."
"I will be in my room when you come," Charlotte said.
She ended the call and took Liam to her room to get her bags ready. She was still arranging her bags when Mira knocked on the door.
"Come in, Mira," Charlotte said.
Mira opened the door and walked in. Liam rushed to give her a hug.
Mira squatted and pulled Liam into a warm hug. "My darling Liam."
Charlotte watched them exchange greetings, and she smiled. She is assured that Mira and Liam will get along with each other.
Mira held Liam's hand and took him to meet Charlotte.
"Do you need my help?" She said, sitting beside her.
Charlotte shook her head. "No, thanks. I am almost done."
They began to talk about random things until Charlotte was done packing.
"Time to go," Charlotte announced.
"Are you taking your bags now?" Mira asked.
Charlotte shook her head. "I will be back in the afternoon to pick them up."
"Can I see you off to the airport?"
Charlotte nodded. "Sure you can."
"I almost forgot. What about Bella? Is she coming with you?"
Charlotte nodded. "She is."
Mira nodded but said nothing. They left Charlotte's room and returned to the living room with Mira carrying Liam.
"I will take his bags," Charlotte said.
Charlotte carried Liam's bags to Mira's car before returning to carry her work bag. She kissed Liam goodbye and watched them leave in Mira's car before she entered her car and left too.
Just like she promised, she stopped at Bella's Fashion School. She got there about half an hour before Bella's meeting.
They talked about a few random things. Charlotte did not ask about Daniel, and Bella said nothing about him either.
Bella knew she wasn't happy, and she needed some time. Charlotte, on the other hand, decided to tell Bella about it.
After all she had told Mira already.
Bella's reaction to the news was exactly what Charlotte had expected. Just like Mira, she was furious and ready to fight.
"Come on," Charlotte chuckled. "It isn't that deep."
Bella frowned. It is. He made her best friend shed tears. How is that not deep?
"How can he want a child when he can't help out?"
Charlotte smiled. "He can want it, but he won't get any. Not anytime soon."
Bella sighed. "I am happy you decided to give him some space."
Charlotte nodded. She is glad she decided that too.
Bella held Charlotte's hand and smiled. "Charlotte, I hope you are going to use these few weeks to get some real rest and be happy."
Charlotte nodded. She will try her best.
Bella stared at the wall clock. It was just a few minutes before her meeting.
Charlotte, who had looked at the wall clock too, spoke up. "It's almost time for your meeting." She stood up. "I think I should get going."
Bella stood up too. "I will see you off."
Charlotte shook her head. "You should prepare for your meeting. I will find my way out."
Bella waved. "Bye."
Charlotte walked to the door but stopped. "Mira is seeing us off to the airport."
Bella nodded. "She texted me."
"I haven't forgotten about Daniel either. We will have a lot of time to talk about it over the air."
Bella smiled. "Sure."
Charlotte waved before leaving. She met Bella's assistant on the way, who greeted her. Most of Bella's staff greeted her. They were all very familiar with her.
A few of them asked why she had not been coming, and she told them of her busy schedule. Charlotte felt better talking to Bella and also some of her staff.
Not only did she feel better, but she also felt refreshed. She got to her car, entered it, and drove off.
A few distance away from her company, her phone began to ring. It was Gina calling. Charlotte picked it up, and Gina informed her of her meeting coming up in a few minutes.
"I will be there before the time." She assured Gina.
Charlotte got to the company a few minutes after she ended the call.
