chapter 9
Ma'am, she's doing well. She is actually very good. She wants to learn and she is learning even though we have some difficulties, she is still coping, Mr Nicholas said as he sat down opposite Mrs Smith.
She smiled and thought of the footage she had watched on the CCTV earlier. The girl actually behaved like someone she knows. Just that it's been a long time now and their relationship is beyond repairs after what happened.
I'm curious. Who is she thinking about? Who does Sophia behave like? Why do I feel like there are many mysteries to be unravelled?
Mr Nicholas smiled and stretched his hand across the table to touch Mrs Smith hand. I guess I am not the only one whose eyebrow is arched now. What's going on between this two?
Are they having an ambiguous relationship like I am thinking right now? But Mr Nicholas smiled and asked,Sister, how is the little lad doing? How is my nephew doing?
What!!!? Sis... Sister??? Mrs Smith burst into tears right then and said,I regret not listening to you all those years brother. I wish I never met that man. My life wouldn't be in shambles. My only child and son won't be in that room now on a sick bed. He is hanging on a thread of hope between life and death.
Mr Nicholas stood up then and pat her back lightly to comfort her or at least pacify her. She held his hands tightly and looked up at him,Brother... I will die if anything happens to Justin.
Ssh... Don't say that. I know my nephew. He is a fighter. He won't let go that easily without a fight, Nicholas told her and she sniffed. The tears kept coming but she didn't make a sound.
Someone suddenly barged in and they flew apart. No one must or should know the relationship between them. No one must know. They both looked at the assassinator whose head was bowed down low.
He was trembling a little like he saw what he wasn't supposed to see. 'Is madam having an affair with Mr Nicholas?,' he couldn't help but wonder as he looked downwards.
Mrs Smith cleared her throat awkwardly and cleaned the rim of her eyes in case there is any trace or sign of tears there before shouting at him,How dare you barge into my office like that!!? Do you know the punishment for the offence you just committed!?
The assassinator whose name will be withheld looked up and said,Ma, I am sorry for barging in like that. The private nurse in young master's room asked me to come over immediately and inform you that you should head to the room. Seems like something happened to the young master.
Mrs Smith gasped and stood up from the swivelling chair immediately. She immediately ran out of the room and Nicholas followed her. Meanwhile the assassinator that had come to inform them left since he knows that if he followed them, he won't be allowed into the room anyway.
Mrs Smith ran into the room panting slightly. The doctor was already there and the nurse was there also. She looked at Justin and gasped painfully. She shook and almost lost her balance but luckily Nicholas was behind her.
He immediately held his sister to prevent her from running away as they looked at the occupant on the bed. Justin's eyes was open and he just stared at the ceiling. His eyes weren't blinking but the oxygen mask was still on his face.
The doctor walked to Mrs Smith and smiled. He extended his hands forward to shake hers but when she didn't respond, he withdrew his hands immediately.
Ma... This is great news. It is really a great improvement. I thought it was going to take months or years perhaps for him to wake up. But the nurse called for me when the vital sign monitor began to beep loudly than usual, he explained.
Mrs Smith looked at her son and couldn't talk for a while. She finally asked,Why is he looking like that? Why is the oxygen mask still on his face?
The doctor shook his head sideways and answered,Madam, it's one step after the other. He is awake but he is still very weak. He hasn't recovered yet. I am sure he still can't talk now now so he still need the oxygen mask. But the good news is that he is finally awake.
Mrs Smith covered her mouth as she cried again. Nicholas held her in his arms as he watched Justin. He was stunned when he saw the fresh drop of tears streaming down the boy's face.
He called out,Cassie, look. Your son is crying. I'm sure it's because you are crying.
Haa! Yes, I forgot to mention that he can also hear any sound. So he can hear you crying now, the doctor said.
Mrs Smith hurriedly brushed off the tears from her face. She rushed to Justin and sat on the bed, then she began to pat his hair softly. She forced a smile and whispered to him,Mother won't cry.... So don't cry any longer.
But his tears just kept on streaming down. He looked at her like he wanted to say something but couldn't.
Unknown_
Why!? Why did father do that to her? Why did father let her get raped? Why did he kill her parents? Why did I have this awful accident when I was just about to confront him?
What else has he been hiding from us? Where is she now? Is she safe wherever she is? I want to groan in pain but I can't. My body aches alot.
My eyes slowly closed again and I panicked. Am I going to that endless dark zone again? But just before I lost consciousness, I heard someone say,Let him be... He's just exhausted.
Who is that? Then all I could see was darkness.
