Number 29

“I’ll come pick him up later,” she cried out to Ivy who was walking out with Xander in her possession.

She shut the door, and laid her back against it, her hand still placed on the door knob as she stared into empty space still reminiscing and recollecting vividly, Damien’s voice and face.

Although Lorelei’s mind was made up, she still deemed it wise to see Roman at least one more time! The nanny had came over and taken Xander from her, leaving her alone to deeply immerse herself in the well of her musing. She sat down on the sofa, letting out deep breaths after deep breaths, heaving sighs after sighs, adjusting herself repeatedly like there was a needle poking her butt, making the seat unbearable, waiting for Roman to come back and just say something; anything would suffice as long as he disputed the trash Damien spewed minutes ago. What prompted her to give Roman the last shred of respect by giving him a chance to clear his name, was the feelings she nurtured for him.

Seconds evolved to minutes, minutes to hours and there was still no sign of Roman around the house. Her patience began to run out; she stood up from the couch and began prancing around, switching positions of her hand from placing them on her waist, to folding them together. She’d walk to the window, and look through occasionally anticipating to see her mate coming towards the house, all to naught. She considered going outside to ask questions of his whereabouts, but came to a conclusion that she’d be acting desperate if she let her anxiety take the better part of her. Roman was logically the one to come running back to her with a bucket filled with explanations. It was crystal clear that she started getting worried and nervous. She had left Roman alone to face Damien! It’s plausible that she felt tensed. Different horrid thoughts on what could have possibly gone wrong when she left, encroached her mind pushing her deeper into the shackles of restlessness. Not only did she feel restless, she also felt regret towards leaving Roman by himself in the heat of anger.

Twilight approached gradually, Roman was still no where to be seen. Hol’up , what if he was too ashamed to face her after the embarrassment Damien dished out? Dwelling on that, rather than the outrageous images she envisaged in her head changed her worries to disappointment yet again. Alpha C was present so what could Damien possibly do to him? Roman’s absence until then meant only one thing and that’s he didn’t have the guts to face Lorelei again which invariably implies the allegations were true.

Time up! Her forbearance finally ran out completely. She wasn’t going to spend an extra minute in the wait for someone who probably had zero intentions of appearing before her.

She shrugged, picked her bag up and headed to Ivy’s to get her son from her and finally vamoose to a completely new environment where she could auspiciously avert her past – Damien.

On getting to Ivy’s, she paused instantly mid-air just as she was about to knock, when she heard another voice which was neither Ivy’s nor Xander’s as the voice was quite deep-toned. Did Ivy have other acquaintances or family members who also came around to visit? The voice was deep-toned so it was definitely a man inside the house. But who was it? Her curiosity was too deep-seated to just shove aside and walk right in so Instead of just cutting them off, she stood outside the house, before the door to listen in .

“So you intercepted their meeting?” She heard Ivy ask.

“Not really. I eavesdropped. They’re picking up the pace. We need to act fast, nanny,” the ‘other’ – deep – voice responded.

“We need to think about this thoroughly, Roman.” Roman?!!!!!!!!

Yes, the same Roman Lorelei waited for the whole day. Lorelei must have felt like a clown there and then. More to feeling like a clown, Roman was speaking?!!!!! She thought he was mute and innocent.

Roman came over to Ivy’s hastily without much thought to inform her what they were plotting. He had to act, and due to his condition – of acting like a mute – this was the least he could do.

“We need to be as cautious as a serpent. We need to act fast, yes. But we have to be very careful.”

“There’s no time, nanny. Father should at least be aware of the doom that awaits him,” he stated worriedly.

“Relax. It’s Crimson Fangs we’re talking about right now. This is too little to shake them off completely. The very fact you heard them talking is more than enough to bring their plans to complete jeopardy.”

“They suspect there are spies within their midsts.”

“Spies?”

“Yes, spies. They were deliberating on calling together trusted troupes to ensure them smooth sailing.”

“So they’re finally acting, huh?” nanny asked rhetorically nodding her head repeatedly like she had an idea.

“I need you to go home and report to my father everything I told you, please.”

“That wouldn’t be a problem. Once a member of the pack, always a member. This isn’t an issue to be taken likely. The Alpha king needs to get wind of this to get himself fortified,” she concurred.

“I need his orders to help me complete my mission.”

“Absolutely!”

“Ummm…,” he stressed, staring at Ivy.

“Anything else?”

“I have a special request to make.”

“Go on,” Ivy gestured with both hands to conform with her statement.

“Can you please ask Dad if I can return home with my mate?” he requested humbly.

“Lorelei?”

“Yes nanny.”

“Sure,” she acquiesced, placing one hand on his arm to assure him of her unwavering support.

“Thanks nana,” he smiled. “I need to rush back home to Lei. She must be really broken hearted right now.”

“You’re leaving without Alex?”

“How do I explain to Lei where I got him from?” The nanny chuckled. The question she asked was quite ridiculous.

“You’re right. Go well.”

The keys jingled as he tried to open the door.
