Taking a break from work

A lot of events were held in our hall throughout the week and today was Friday, meaning it was the last day of the weekday. I was more than excited when I checked the schedule and saw that we had the weekend off. We didn't have an event to plan. I'd like to go to the spa with Beth this weekend.
I was stressed and it was beginning to reflect in my appearance. I call Beth and told her about the plan. "Beth, I was thinking this weekend we both go to the spa. What do you think?" I asked.
"I'm down for it but who's going to take care of the kitchen?" She asked.
Our restaurant operates on the weekends too for the sake of our hotel guests in the hotel. I totally forgot that. Suddenly, a thought crossed my mind and I smiled.
"Do you think you can trust Amy for just one day?" I asked.
Amy was the assistant chef and I have tasted her meal a couple of times and it's actually nice. "Amy?" She asked, over the phone. There was too much noise in the background so she was practically shouting at the top of her voice.
I pitied her. The poor girl was sure as exhausted as hell but she was still working hard. Thank God today was Friday and we can go have that spa treatment. "Yes Amy. She's been there for a while.
I think she can handle this. You need to take a break. This week has been stressful for us all", I replied. "Well, if we're taking a break tomorrow then all workers should too. I mean we've all worked so hard this week. We all deserve a break", she said.
"Oh, true. How insensitive of me.
Okay. Then Ill just check with the hotel and know if we still have hotel guests in any room. If we don't, then everyone can take a break", I replied. "OK Bes. Love you", she said. "Love you more", I replied and ended the call.
Picking up the landline, I called the hotel to find out if we had any hotel guests at all.
"No ma'am, the last guests just checked out of the hotel", the receptionist replied.
Oh!! Today seems to be a lucky day for us all.
"Ok Vivian, do not check anyone in for now. I'll get back to you", I answered.
"Yes ma'am", she replied.
I dropped the call and pressed on the intercom. "Yes ma'am", my secretary replied. "Come into my office, please", I said.
I dropped the intercom and waited for her to make her way into my office. She knocked and entered my office. "Chloe, I want you to send an email to everyone in the building.
Tell them that we're taking the weekend off and this is as a result of our hard work this week. I'll call Beth myself and tell her to announce the information to her staff", I said.
Chloe was all smiles on hearing the good news and I couldn't help but smile too. This will make a lot of people's day.
"Ok ma'am. A lot of people will be happy to hear the news, myself inclusive. Thank you ma'am", she replied.
"Oh don't thank me. We've all had a stressful week and we deserve a break before work begins next week", I replied.
"You can get back to work", I told her and she left.
I picked up my cell phone and dialled Beth's number. It rang for a while and there was no response. I tried again and this time she picked up. "Sorry Bes, I had a lot of work on my hands. So, how's it?"
The hotel just checked out its last guests so they'd be going on a break too. I called to tell you to announce the news to the kitchen staff. We can all take the weekend off", I replied.
"Whoa. They'll be so excited. Right now, they all look like they're going to faint anytime soon. Thanks for your thoughtfulness Bes. You dont know how alleviated this people would be".
“I know. I feel the same way too and just talking about taking a break relieves me already, I replied.
Beth and I burst into a fit of laughter.
"Ok, I'll pass the information then. Thanks again", she replied. And about that spa treatment, I really need it. Would you come to pick me or what? she asked. You could come over and wed go in my car, I suggested.
Thatd be nice. Id get to see where you and the Handsome Devil are living, she replied, with a teasing voice. Yeah, I replied.
Okay, then till tomorrow, love, she replied, ending the call.
Her voice sounded less stressed and fatigued. Everyone loves a good break from work. I sighed, looking around my office. I didnt have much work to do. You may be wondering what exactly my work is. I document everything that takes place in the hotel and give feedbacks to the big boss. Though, hes retired; he still owns his company which is just under my management.
Work closed for the day and I got ready to leave for home. As I exited my office, I saw Chloe was getting ready to leave too. Did you send out the emails I asked you to send to our staff concerning the 2 days break? I asked.
Yes, I didnt maam and I even confirmed from a staff in the kitchen if the news got to them and I was told that Chef Beth announced the news to them, she replied.
Good, I said with a bright smile.
I was pleased with the way she handled the work I gave her. This was the kind of people I loved to work with. I was glad I got her as a replacement for my old secretary. Its not like I wasnt pleased with my former secretary. Christine did her work and without errors.
She was smart and sometimes put me through somethings that I find difficult. Its just that Christine was a mother of two before she got pregnant again.
Shed sometimes come late to work or take excuses from because of one issue or the other concerning her children. Now that shes pregnant again, I might just tell her to quit the job so she could give full attention to her children. “See you on Monday and enjoy the break, I said.
