Chapter 22

My biological father looked at me with a mixture of sadness and anger at my words.
“You were born to be his bride! Damn your mother for using Iscara to send you away!” Her real father muttered in anger
“Who are you fucking talking about?” She inquired with a glare and her hand on her hips
The old king her father looked at Ephany and Iscara, as well as her parents
“you did not even tell her anything?! You let her grow up believing that is just a normal human?” he demanded.
“She showed no signs of shifting so we did not think she should know” they told him
The old king looked concerned at perplexed “perhaps she is a late bloomer?” Velaria was looking very nervous and awkward, she was trying to sneak out of the room when her uncle Fredrick blocked her path and gave her a questioning look. She looked over to the corner and saw that Shaemus had already left. She felt bad, she never meant to hurt him with her words.
“Where are you going velaria?” her uncle asked, ‘what are you hiding?” immediately everyone looked at her. She gulped when her father took her by the arm and peered into her soul “why is your magic is restless if you are a late bloomer? It is acting like it has been caged?”
“I may have been suppressing it for years?” she said as every stared at her in shock and horror.
“WHAT?!!!” They are shouted and she covered her ears
“I mean common, known of you told me shit, I felt like my entire family was a happy human family. I did not want to be seen as a freak, I did not want you all to hate me like a monster, so I used every ounce of strength I had to push it down and block it” she said in a sad tone. Her mothers hands flew to her mouth.
“That explains so much why somedays as a girl you looked so exhausted for no reason! Oh, my child! I am so sorry” her mother said in tears. Velaria hugged her mother.
“Honestly, it has been pouring through since that mysterious man willed me to stop blocking in my dreams?”
They all looked at her in shock and intrigue “what mysterious man?”
“I do not know him but, he only appears in my dreams, used to as a child but, I would run away from him cause he scared me. Lately he has been back, and he is so alluring, sexy, with a hint of danger. I have had dreams where I am in a luxurious room yet shrouded by darkness. He takes me by the hand, and he takes me in every way possible. He makes me feel loved, safe, and he is telling me to stop blocking it?”
Her real father looked hopeful, her parents and uncle looked concerned, and the maidens looked hopeful with excitement.
“I don’t know him but, he called me his, I also had a dream about the night of my attack last month, and I felt his presence in the dream like it was soothing me. I also have felt his presence at times in my office. I felt hot anger during my nightmare like he saw my attack at your barn Iscara”
Iscara paled in fear, her daughter Ephany whispered “if it is who we think, you might be facing his wrath for taking her mom!” they hugged each other and started to speak panicky about selling the farm and going far away. Suddenly, Velaria felt a presence near her that was invisible in the room. She watched as Iscara was suddenly lifted off of the ground by the throat. Iscara struggled for breath, clutching her throat like she was trying to claw away the hand.
“Mom! Let go of her! She’s sorry, it wasn’t her fault!” She screamed at the presence. Ephany was knocked down like someone forcefully shoved her. Everyone looked in horror except Velaria “whoever you are! Put. Her. Down. Now!” She demanded. A snarl echoed in the room and Iscara dropped to the floor. Ephany cradled her mother who was fighting for breath.
“Who in the fuck are you?!” She heard a whisper “Come and find out my dove”
Everyone in the room looked at the exchange in fear. “It is him, your betrothed!”
“Who in the fuck is that? You all keep saying I am betrothed from birth! Who are you talking about?” Before they could say a word, she shook her head, got up, and ran out of the room. “Velaria!” her uncle said trying to stop her. He knew she was a flight risk when I pertained to the idea of marriage.

“No, I am sick of this shit! I am sick of being left in the dark! I need my own space!” She said as she ran away from Shaemus's pack.

One thing shocked her, Shaemus stood by and let her run away from the territory. The broken look on his face would haunt her. “What is the matter, Alpha? Giving up?” She taunted, to her shock, he walked back inside the store he was standing near and shut the door.
She felt her heart break, and she did not understand why. The need to go to him was suddenly all-consuming. Her bite mark throbbed unexpectedly. She clutched her neck in pain. Her shifter side she could see in her mind was trying to overpower her and go to him. She summoned her strong will and shoved the black stallion back into her mind. Everyone around her looked at her with hatred and disgust. She could not understand why. Her mother spoke “Velaria, if you walk away now, they will hate you! From what we understand, he is the Alpha of this pack, which means he is their leader, and you are possibly his mate. Chosen by the goddess to be His betrothed! You are hurting their leader who they love very much with your provocative actions right now! You cannot escape the destiny of being a queen or the destiny of being their Luna! It is what you were born to be! You were Born Princess Thalia of the Pegra kingdom! You cannot run any longer!”
Her mother told her in a commanding tone, which struck fear into her heart and she backed away in terror looking at the village people surrounding her with angry looks on their faces.

“Mates? You’re talking about werewolf shit, in movies! That’s not real mom! That is delusional fantasy!’ She growled as her mother laughed “Oh and the fact that you just shifted into a fiery-winged Pegasus black as midnight? That is fantasy too? Grow up, my daughter! When did we ever raise you as a “human”? If you recall, we used to tell you to pray to the goddess Athena. Or how about at times behind closed doors when I would use magic to cook and do everything? What about when we would tell you stories of my kingdom? What about your siblings? Do you think Amara really went to a “human” all-girls school? She went to a girls' academy for witches and magic. You did not need to go there because you were so quick to finish school in advance. Had I known you were suppressing your magic, I would have sent you there! Your brother is very powerful and actually a head priest in a magical circle in Seattle.”

Velaria was staring at her mother with her mouth gaping in shock at the revelation. “I thought they were just going through a fantasy phase, where they wanted to pretend like they were from Lord of the Rings? I thought were just nerdy losers?” Her mother Melissa started laughing again except harder at her assumption.
“There is a reason why my family was maidens, we are the lower form of Pegra’s we only had magic, and we could not shift. You need to pull your head out of the clouds. Stop believing everything in the world is primarily human and magic is Hollywood bullshit as I have heard you say! You walk away now; they may never forgive you!” She said as she gestured to Shaemus’s people. As she spoke, the rest of her family exited the house and stood by looking at Velaria with angry expressions at her audacity. Velaria shook her head and walked away to their hurt.
Melissa could hear Shaemus in the store crying. Melissa walked into the store and embraced Shaemus “I am so sorry sir, I do not know where I went wrong with her. I think it was ever since that situation where she almost died because of your beta, she has never been the same. Just please do not give up on her" She hugged him in comfort “I do not know why the gods are toying with us like this, giving you her as a mate when she was already chosen for another being?” She said as she walked away trying to figure out how to make the situation better. The only thing she could think is her true betrothed might be the only one to tame her.
