Chapter 37

“King Parker, May the Goddess be with you. It’s an honour having you here” Dad interrupted our hug.

Nicholas let me go and I moved away.

“Alpha Danton. May the Goddess be with you. Thank you for permitting me to stop by. I was in the neighbourhood and thought I’d drop by,” Nicholas flashed his best smile at dad and extended his hand.

“Oh, how thoughtful. Well, I’m glad you decided to visit. How’s your dad doing? And have you had any luck with finding a mate?” Dad shook Nicholas’s hand and positioned himself between Nicholas and me.

“Dad is good, Alpha. Getting old and annoying, but good. As for my mate, no I haven’t found her yet. That was another reason for my visit. Thought I’d have a look here before I headed back home. I’m sure you’ve had some females become of age since my last visit.” Nicholas looked over dads shoulder, giving me a pointed look.

“Do tell Alex, I hear you’ve found your mate” he smirked.

Nicholas was obviously aware of my situation.

“Yeah, let’s not talk about that. It’s like the Goddess is playing some sort of cruel joke on me. One minute I have a mate, the next his either a traitor trying to take my powers or his not strong enough to handle my powers. Who knew I’d get stuck with incompetent mates” I rolled my eyes.

I knew Clark was still standing there listening to our conversation.

“Alexandria! That’s not how you speak about your mate. Where are your manners?” Dad scolded.

Nicholas chuckled “Wow, your emotions really have gone out the window huh. Now, I’m interested in seeing what emotions you still have left and how I can take advantage of that.”

That devilish grin spread across his face. When you saw that grin, you knew whatever he was thinking, it was dangerous.

“Okay then! Shall we all go inside? Have some breakfast? I’ll get a room ready for you and your boys King Parker.” Dad interrupted again. He was definitely feeling the tension between Nicholas and me.

Dad motioned for Nicholas to go in first. Once his back was towards us, dad turned to me, stopping me in my spot.

“Go apologies to him right now young lady! You may be the Queen of this territory but this is still my house and no daughter of mine will speak about her mate like that.” Dad whispered. His voice was low but deadly. It gave me goosebumps.

“Sorry daddy, but no. I’m not apologising. I didn’t say anything wrong. He is incompetent. If he hadn’t started to show signs of weakness, Roy would never have formulated the plan to kidnap him. I’ve thought about this and my conclusion is that Clark is not fit to be my mate. His insecurity was what got him into that situation. 3 weeks was all it took for him to bail, to resent me. I can’t spend a life time with someone like that” my words had dads jaws touching the ground.

He knew I was right. He had spent weeks and weeks away from mum on his missions and never had she ever resented him. She always waited patiently and supported him no matter what.

I didn’t wait for dad reply. You could see his brain ticking and I didn’t want to know what he was thinking. I stepped around him, and started to walk inside.

“If I’m so incompetent, then why don’t you just reject me and get all this over with.” Clark’s voice stopped me.

I sighed and turned around. He was now standing next to dad.

“Because you are still healing. I may not feel anything for you but I’m not heartless. You’ve already been through so much in the last 6 months I don’t want to give you more pain. Last thing I want is you trying to do something stupid and giving me a bad name.”

“You really think that Roy kidnapping me was my own fault?” Clark’s voice cracked a little. He looked upset by my words.

“Yes, I do. He was keeping an eye on you and like he said, he took advantage of a situation I created. I let a weak male like you come into my life.” I was standing right in front of Clark now. Clark looked like he was ready to cry but I was so mad.

Maybe it was time to throw the bait and see what happens.

“I’ve been thinking about this a lot all week. Trying to piece together this whole situation. There’s one thing that just doesn’t make sense to me. The day you apparently got kidnàpped, how did Roy know I was coming home that day? Besides me, only 2 other people knew I was heading home that particular day. Two people that I trust with my life. Roy was quick to say he heard chatter that I was coming home. We didn’t tell anyone so who all were chatting about it?”

Dad stiffen and looked at Clark. We watched the color on Clark’s face drain and you could see he was shocked and flustered.

“If we didn’t tell anyone, then no one should have known we were heading home. You hadn’t decided our time of departure until after Clark and you had that argument over the phone.” Matt spoke from behind me.

“Exactly by point. If no one knew, then how did Roy know to kidnàp you that very day Clark? The only possibility I see is that Roy was never there. The kidnapping never happened. It was you all along. You and I had that argument in your room. I rejected YOU and after we left, Roy came to you.”

“What exactly are you accusing me of? I’m not involved with Roy. Why would I want you to reject me? I still bear your mark is that proof enough that you didn’t reject me?!” Clark was shaking. His voice getting high in certain places.

“See Clark, right now I’m just accusing. If I find evidence that you are some how involved, I promise you, I’ll bury you so deep into the ground that even our werewolf noses won’t be able to find you. As for that mark, how do I know it’s mine? I haven’t touched it in 6 months. It can easily be someone else’s. You’ve been avoiding me this whole week. Fear of being caught keeping you away from me?” I raised my eye and watched his expressions change. I expected him to defend himself at this point and offer for me to touch the mark just to show it was mine.

However, his hesitation gave me all the confirmation I needed.

“I suggest you be very careful Clark. This whole act you have of being the damsel in distress, it’s getting a little transparent. I’d watch my moves if I were you. All I need is 1 small piece of evidence” I narrowed my eyes at him.

Without another word Clark turned around and headed into the packhouse.

“I want all eyes on him 24/7. Every second of his whereabouts needs to be accounted for. I smell a rat” I pinched the bridge of my nose and took a deep breath in.

“You really think he's up to something?” Dad looked very concerned.

****Come with me. I need to show you something**** I mind linked dad and Matt.

I didn’t want our conversation to be heard and us being followed. It was very important that this situation stayed quiet until I had more evidence.

I wasn’t going to accuse Clark of anything just yet. But now that Nicholas was here, I was right to set my plan into motion...
