CHAPTER 42: A Hundred Smiles
KATE’s P.O.V.
I woke up having a wide smile plastered upon my face. It felt nice, having someone who could give you that peace of mind. I know Elijah wouldn’t cheated on me. I trust him enough... And even though he didn’t promised, I know he wouldn’t.
Even though Elijah and I haven’t talk about anything to do for today, I feel the need to prepare myself before going down to our dining room, where my Mom is currently preparing our breakfast.
“Hey, you’re looking good, sweetie. How’s your sleep?” she asked me.
“It’s... Great, Mom. I think it is.”
“Well that was good to hear. Come then, I prepared something for you.”
She took out a plate for me before putting a cup of garlic fried rice onto it. She added some bacons and fried eggs, and I instantly felt the hunger invading my system. Though I don’t want to look fat in front of Elijah if ever I saw him later on.
“Mom, please don’t tease my tummy. I don’t want to look bloated in front of Elijah.”
She chuckled, before putting another serving of food on my plate. She then did the same thing to hers, before finally sitting down on the opposite side of the table, staring at me with a mischievous smile plastered upon her face.
“What?” I asked her.
“Nothing... I just wanted to ask... You know, what is the real score between you and that guy? Elijah, right?”
I blushed out of embarrassment, not knowing the answer to that question as well. I badly wanted to respond, but I don’t know how.
“You know that I support you two, right? It’s just that... You should put a label in your relationship. I mean, I don’t want you to get hurt or something just like what happened before.”
“I know, Mom, I know. Believe me, I know that. I just... I trust Elijah so much that I’m pretty sure that he’s not going to hurt me or anything.”
“Then I trust him too.”
I smiled at her, and she did the same. We started eating our breakfast, and after that, our maids helped us clean our dining table. I decided to went to our living room and watch some TV shows, hoping that somehow, Elijah will miraculously came in here to fetch me up or something. But he didn’t.
It’s been two hours of waiting but he’s still not here. I was dumbfounded, and I’m beginning to get suspicious again. Now I'm starting to doubt myself if do I really trust him. Because if I do, then I shouldn’t have been feeling this way.
Out of boredom, I decided to call Fiona, hoping to get some updates regarding my business in Paris. Thankfully, she answered my call as soon as possible.
“Hello, Kate? How are you?” she asked, sounding worried. “I heard about what happened to your Dad. Are you alright now?” she added.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine now, so don’t worry... I’m sure that Dad is watching me wherever he is right now.”
“Well that’s a good mindset. Anyways, why did you call me? Do you need something?”
“Uhm...” I trailed off, feeling guilty for calling her out of boredom. Maybe she’s doing some important stuffs right now and I just disturbed her.
“Kate?” I came back to my senses after I heard her call my name.
“Nothing, really. I’m just... You know, bored. So I thought maybe I could get some updates about our business.”
“Don’t worry, I got all things under my control. Just sit and relax out there. I can handle this myself.”
“Thanks, Fiona. I know that I can always count on you.”
“Of course! So, bye for now?”
“Bye!”
I hung up the call, before turning off our television using the remote control. I sighed, still hoping for Elijah to come. Until Mom entered into the room, flashing a wide grin on her face.
“Uhm... What’s with the smile?” I asked her, confused.
“Elijah is outside, waiting for you.”
My heart started to thumped so bad after hearing his name. Mom finally let me go, and so I planted a quick kiss on her forehead before running towards the outside of our home. Without any more suspense, I saw Elijah really standing out there, right next to our gate.
“Hey!” he greeted me while projecting his killer smile.
“Hi!” I greeted back. “Don’t you have some work to do?” I asked him curiously.
“Nope. I got a leave. I mean, I wanted to see you... And maybe spent some time together. I wouldn’t come back to my work not until I finished my mission and you finally answered me.”
“Mission? Answer? But you haven’t asked me a question yet,” I stated, staring at him straight in the eyes.
“My mission is to witness you having a hundred smile on your face. A real one. After that, I’m going to finally ask you the question.”
I smiled, letting him count it as the first one. He reached out to caressed my cheeks, before grinning.
“Ninety-nine precious smiles to go.”
“You know, you can ask me that specific question right now. You don’t need to complete your task. I would be pleased to answer your question right at this moment,” I stated, making him chuckled.
“I know, I know,” he confidently responded, before adding another set of sweet words. “But I wanted to earn it instead. I want you to feel how special you are to me. Earning your answer is way better than asking for it.”
Again, I smiled. He punched the invisible wind in front of his face, before smiling widely at my direction. Ninety-eight more to go. It was as if he’s really excited for this task.
I came closer, dying to be hold in his arms again. I gave him a light hug, and I heard him chuckled.
“Uhm, why are you hugging me?” he asked.
“Nothing. I just want to, Elij.”
“Thanks. I really wanted this too,” he stated before planting a kiss on my forehead.
