CHAPTER 50: Living In A Fairytale

ELIJAH’s P.O.V.

Two years later...

I waited for almost half of my life for this girl... I patiently waited for her to come back, right after she search for herself. I waited even though we’ve got a lot of doubts about ourselves... But in the end, we find it worth it. Kate and I... The two of us finally became an official couple.

Today is the day that I have been waiting for. The day that I am going to ask her to marry me. And with the help of Darren and Claire, I know that everything will be alright. Nothing could go wrong, nor stop us anymore. From this day forward, Kate and I will be finally engaged, and I won’t hesitate to marry her right away if only that is possible.

“So Cloey, when Kate arrived, I wanted you to tugged her until the other side of the park,” I reminded her again.

“Sure, Uncle Elijah!” she stated, as if she really alert for her duty.

Claire and Darren laughed at my nervous actions, before Darren stood up just to open his arrogant mouth and tease me about it.

“I was nervous too when I asked Claire to marry me, but I wasn’t acting like that,” he proudly stated, and I instantly glared at him.

“Asshole...” I muttered under my breath, afraid that Cloey might hear it if ever.

“Don’t believe in his nonsense, Elijah. Darren looked so nervous when he asked me to marry him. To much to the point that his lower lip got swollen because he kept on biting it,” Claire stated, busting my bestfriend.

“Wife!” Darren complained, as if Claire exposed his deepest, darkest, secret.

“Who’s nervous now, huh? And you even did weirder things than I am,” I teased Darren back.

“Whatever, bro. Anyways, to be serious, my nervousness instantly faded away the moment that Claire answered my question... And even if she didn’t, I could see it in her eyes. And I’m glad that we make it through after all those challenges that happened to us before... I’m so glad that Kate and you will be finally having your own happy endings. Good luck, and always remember that we are always here to support you two.”

I smiled, getting touched by his dramatic speech. Darren could be an asshole sometimes, but still, he is the best guy that I could ever asked for a bestfriend. What a coincidence, that we both fell in love with the two woman who’s bestfriends too. Kate and Claire... Now nothing can ruin the bond between us four... And I am just waiting for Kate and I to have our own mini version so that Cloey could finally have a bestfriend too.

“Thank you, Darren, and Claire. I don’t know what to do without you, guys. Seriously.”

“What about me?” Cloey asked, pouting.

“Of course you too, baby. I never would have even survive waiting for your Aunt Kate if you weren’t there. You are always the caused of my joy... And I can’t wait to give you a friend as well...”

“Me too! I just hope that she would look like Aunt Kate!” she shamelessly blurt out and her parents laughed out loud.

“Well that was unfair... Traitor,” I pouted, acting sad in front of her.

“Guys! Kate is already parking her car somewhere near here! Quick, Elijah, hide!” Claire shouted out loud, and everyone panicked, specially me.

And do I run, ready to execute the plan if ever. I hid behind the largest tree here in the park, before I heard Darren and Claire slowly briefing their child on what to do later on if ever that Kate will arrived. She will surely does, any time soon. I just listen to their little conversation while hiding, secretly preparing myself to ask her if we could finally marry each other.

“Now remember what Uncle Elijah had told you earlier, okay?” Claire asked Cloey.

“Yes, Mommy! I will!” she confidently stated.

“She’s here,” I heard Darren whispered.

I took a deep breath, before taking a little sneak peek from behind the tree. A few meters away from Claire and Darren’s carpet, I finally saw the woman I love walking towards their direction.

“Claire! It’s do nice to see you! It’s been a while since ewe set up a nice bonding time just like this one,” Kate greeted them before kissing her bestfriend on the cheek. She did the same to Cloey, and by the look plastered upon her face and that cute little smile of hers, it instantly give the idea that something very important might happen today.

“It’s nice to see you too! Darren is here with me,” Claire informed her.

“Hi!” she waved her hands and Darren did the same. “Wait, why is Cloey here smiling so goofy? Is there something that you are not telling me?” Kate suspiciously asked them, and all I wanted to do is laugh because of their guilty responses. But of course, I tried my best to suppress it.

“Nothing, Kate... Cloey just wanted to show you something... Over there!” Claire pointed out towards my direction, and I instantly hid behind the tree.

“Oh, and what is it? Where is Elijah anyways?” she asked, looking for me. “I wanted to come here with him but he told me that he might be late,” she stated, before pouting. How cute.

“He is on his way. He just texted me. Just go and see it for yourself,” Darren joined in the conversation.

And with that, Cloey tugged her along towards the biggest tree inside of this park, and I started breathing so heavily as my palms started to sweat. I bit my lower lip, before I reached out to my pocket, just to make sure that the ring is still there.

“Here we are! Look over there! This is the oldest tree here in this park, Aunt Kate!” Cloey energetically stated.

“Really? Well that is awesome... And very educational, I guess. Anyways, what do you want me to do here?” she curiously asked.

“Mommy and Daddy told me that if you wish something in here, it will come true.” I chuckled at her invented theory.

“Is that true? I thought I could only wish in a shooting star and wishing well? And of course if it was my birthday...” Kate argued. The two of them always do this kind of thing.

“Just wish for me, please? Close your eyes and wish! As simple as that!” And yep, Cloey began to get very bossy once again.

“Okay, ma’am.” Kate chuckled.

“Silly. Don’t call me that, please.”

Maybe Kate already close her eyes, because I heard Cloey started a countdown from three, and that is my cue to enter in the scenario. I kneeled down in front of the woman I love, with the ring in my hands.

“Three... Two... One! Open your eyes now!” Cloey shouted.

Kate did as she said, before she gasped in shock, seeing me right in front of her while holding an engagement ring. Claire and Darren came over to our direction, clapping their hands excitedly and same as me, waiting for her answer... The sweetest yes that I was hoping to get today.

“Elijah...” her eyes instantly shed a tear, and I’m glad that it was because of too much joy this time and not because of pain.

“Ms. Frias... The girl that I started loving ever since high school... The chaotic woman who I never thought would notice me... Would you spend the rest of your life with me? Are you willing to be my lovely and stubborn wife? Will you marry me?” My voice started to break, and I feel like I would cry any moment from now.

“Elijah! Of course yes! I will marry you! I love you!” She leaned in to kiss my forehead, and I mouthed ‘I love you’ before slipping the ring on her finger.

Now Claire and Darren made some loud noises, including their daughter as if celebrating. Kate and I kissed, and I am not ashamed of doing that in front of everyone. Because this woman in front of me, she will finally became my wife in just a few months, or maybe weeks.

“Yey! Uncle Elijah is crying!” Cloey blurt out, as if fascinated by the fact that I am currently suffering from a tears of joy.

Claire and Darren teased us both, and Kate just chuckled, before wrapping her hands around my body. I hugged her back, and it feels like I don’t want to let her go anymore... Not in a million years.

“Congratulations, Kate and Elijah,” Claire greeted us, before giving her bestfriend a tight hug. Same as what Darren did to me.

When I looked over to the face of my future wife, I could see every single emotions inside of her chest, including her genuine smile. And that is my everything. I never thought that after all that we’ve been through, Kate and I... We are still together. After all the mess that happened, I’m glad that we believed in each other, leading us to the sweetest road of forever. Now I would never let her go away again from my rectifying graze.
