Chapter 38

I throw my head back and chuckle before letting out a light giggle. "Damien, being sophisticated is like... How do I put it?" I ask rubbing my chin. " Oh, being sophisticated is the way a person acts sophisticated and likes sophisticated things. All in all the person just associates with sophisticated characters, theorems, themes and materials. But, a human is a human be it sophisticated or not. There will come a time that person will need a change, an evolution. That person will need some colour to compliment their personality. So, this restaurant should have understood that a little colour won't hurt anyone"
Damien just stares at me in silence for a while before he shrugs and opens his menu "you can stop making jabs at my restaurant Francesca" my jaw literally drops on the floor. His restaurant? Oh, talkative me. No wonder he seemed so interested in the topic. But I'll be blunt, just like him.
"I'm not making jabs at your restaurant, I'm just stating my opinion which you really don't have to listen to. I still stand on the fact that it needs a little colour, I mean what if someone comes here for a birthday? I'll give it to you that this restaurant is still undoubtedly beautiful. By the way, my opinion doesn't count right?"
Damien strokes his chin for a while "depends on the situation, sometimes I shrug you off. Okay, most times, but when you start speaking like a life coach it's hard to shrug you off"
My eyes light up and I smile " aww, I just got a compliment from YOU. It's like a stone winking at you. By the way I expected your restaurants to be called "The Lorenzo Restaurant" or something"
Damien nods "it is called that, but with an 's' at the end of restaurant. Its written in bracket after the initial name. You didn't take time to read it, or the last one we were at too" he says.
I gasp "that was yours too? I liked that one, it was like a blue heaven. I loved it"
Damien just nods. He presses a button on the black table that I didn't notice and a waiter appears. He takes our orders and leaves.
"So, let's get started. What story have you come up with" Damien asks after some minutes of silence.
"huh?" I ask confused.
"the story of how we met" he says incredulously.
I nod "nothing, we're going to do that together. You can't pin the responsibility on me"
Damien is about to speak but the waiter arrives with our orders and we eat for a while before he speaks.
"I'm not good at lying or fabricating stories. Infact, I don't even like lying. I'm a man of morals"
I give him a hard glare "well the feeling is mutual, I also hate lying and I'm a woman of morals too. Aren't you a business man? Don't you like, lie everyday?"
Damien gives me a pointed look " no, I don't. My companies are built on integrity. From investors, to stocks..."
"oh please, don't bore me with your business talk. I was just poking at you. I don't want to listen to how you were able to come up with a soap factory just because a piece of soap was thrown at you" I say holding up my hands.
Damien gives a light chuckle as his eyes light up. "why don't we just talk about how we really met for the first time after two years but omitting the parts where you were continuously rude to me" I suggest with a smirk.
Damien raises his eyebrows "sure, let's also omit the parts where you were a sass queen"
"I'm honored" I say sipping my wine.
"of course you are" Damien mumbles before eating his stake.
I roll my eyes "I don't like lying or deceiving innocent people or not so innocent people, but I do like creating literary masterpieces that can be blockbuster movies someday"
Damien looks at me like I just fell from space but I ignore him. "so it goes like this, my family and i came to a dinner at your house. A business dinner, and I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water after the dinner and you arrived from work and also came to the kitchen. We both saw each other and I asked you "who are you" and you replied "the owner of this house" we just greeted and exchanged names.
After that, you couldn't get your mind off me and coincidentally, we met at my hospital. You had come there to see a friend. You told me you've been looking for me and that you wanted my number. I gave you a hard time but eventually gave you my number. After that day we became friends and then you wanted more. We started dating and after a few months you told me I was the one and I said the same and we got married in secret. Isn't that a masterpiece? I didn't lie, just said the truth with a twist" I say grinning.
Damien raises his brows "I have a lot of complains about this story"
"Okay go on" I say rolling my eyes.
"firstly, why did I have to tell you I've been looking for you when I could just come to your house or ask your parents. You didn't have to give me a hard time with your number when I could have just gotten it without your knowledge. Secondly, in this story, you made me seem like the lovestruck one who just kept chasing you. All in all, this is like a fairytale. There are very few trails of reality"
"well, unlike you, every normal guy will ask a lady for her number not go ask his private investigators. And if you find anything wrong with my story then that's your problem. If you can come up with a better one then why not?" I say with a smirk.
Damien shakes his head and stands. "let's get going now. I have to go to work and your shift will be starting in thirty minutes"
"how do you know my schedule? That's creepy" I give him a pointed look.
"I have my ways" Damien pays before we leave the restaurant. If I own a restaurant, I will not pay after having food. Who's going to get the money at the end of the day? Me.
He drops me off at the hospital before leaving.
Let's get to work...
