Chapter 41

It's been over two weeks since Damien suddenly slept in my room. Ever since that night, we were back to our normal cold and distant behavior. He had a lot of work to attend to and so did I. My schedule has been packed with different surgeries and operations, I've barely slept in the house since I've been working overtime. Damien also has a lot on his plate since he just launched another company and restaurant. I sometimes see him on the news and on interviews.
If you're wondering if he took me shopping, then no. He was cold and distant the next day and I got irritated and decided not to go to the party. Damien also did not care, neither did he go.
I'm on my way to a club Liza had invited me to. It's Friday today and she suggested I come since I've been stressing at work. I smoothen my purple mini gown and grab my white purse after my driver informed me we've arrived. I decided to let him drive me today since I might not get back sober.
"You may leave, I'll call you when I'm ready" I tell Rob, my driver.
He smiles "sure ma'am" I give him a playful glare and he chuckles before driving off. He knows just how much I hate being called ma'am. There are security guards set around the club and I show them my ticket before entering. I shake my head and make my way inside the club. My black heels clicking on the surprisingly shiny marble floors as i go over to the bar.
"White wine" I say dropping my purse on the counter. The barman looks taken aback by my request but serves me anyway. I give the young lad a tip before taking a sit on the stool. I take in the look of the club while sipping my wine. The club is lit with mature neon lights, surprisingly, this club has tables set for each group. It's is extremely big with enough space for people to breathe and dance without disturbing others.
As expected, there are many people dancing their worries away. But in this club, everyone looks important, like first class. I know a lot about jewelry and clothing brands and it's obvious they are all in expensive clothing. Even their dancing is sophisticated and calculated. There are different groups, some are the ladies ogling at some group of sophisticated looking guys. I recognize some as actors, designers and even artists. Then there are the flirting couples, PDA crew, classic and elite crew, sophisticated crew and the "I hate people touching me" crew. This must be a rich only club.
"sorry, I was in the restroom" I turn my head to the source of the voice, smiling when I see it's Liza. She's in a black crop top and silk skirt with knee-high heels.
"It's fine, I kept myself busy" she scoffs seeing the wine in my hands and takes a sit before dropping her silver purse on the counter. She orders a glass of red wine and turns back to me. We've always been wine ladies.
"Isn't this fun?" She asks exasperatedly. I roll my eyes, she's just sulking because she can't flirt with guys anymore since she's now committed to Sam.
"Of course, sitting at the bar and watching people enjoy themselves, make out, flirt and drink is fun. It's the most exciting activity ever" Liza smirks and elbows me playfully.
"quick question though, is this some kind of rich and popular only club?" I ask turning to face her.
"yes, to get in here you'll have to purchase a ticket one month before and I already had the tickets which cost a lot by the way so I wanted us to make use of it"
"no wonder, the club is boring because everyone is just stuck up rich and full of themselves. They aren't even dancing properly, just pretense. It's almost like all those balls our parents forced us to go every Fridays. Just to be groomed to act like a proper lady" we both laugh at the hilarious memory.
"Normally, people can hardly converse in a club but in this club, you can. Are they playing lullabies or what?" I say frowning at the ridiculously slow music.
"The main reason I chose this club was to flirt with some celebrities and crushes but I never knew that I'll have a boyfriend less than two weeks later"
"awwwwwn, look at you, committed much?"
Liza rolls her eyes "yeah yeah. Do you think I rushed into things?"
I scoff at her question "ridiculous, you're a twenty three years old lawyer. Your love life is doomed, you should be happy you found a guy like Sam. He seems serious about you. It's never too early to be happy, if it makes you happy then do it. It's better than spending your life thinking about what could have happened if you didn't give it a try"
"I know, but we've barely..."
"Shut up! If you let Sam go then I'm pretty sure you'll die single. You're always on cases in the court, how would you get a boyfriend? Except you have a thing for your clients. Who are mostly criminals by the way"
"hey, that's not fair!" I chuckle at her childish response before gulping down the rest of my wine. Liza's specialty is criminal law and she's a pro at it. I remember how she studied her life out to get to where she is today. But a monthly income of $25,000 is worth it right?
"Thanks for the advice. I needed reassurance, I just don't want to feel like I'm doing something wrong, I keep doubting myself and it's.... Nerve-wracking"
I Patt her shoulders reassuringly "stop second-guessing yourself, you've always made right decisions. I'm positive this will work out and even if it doesn't, I'll be right by your side . We can have a big bowl of ice cream and chips along with chocolate and hut fudge. Accompanied with brownies and everything sweet"
Liza gives me a funny look before we both burst out laughing. "you make me look forward to a break up. You know, that just makes me happy cause either way, I'm still very much happy and going to have fun"
I stand and give her a tight hug, sniffing her strawberry conditioner. "I'll never get tired of your flowery strawberry hair. It's divine" i smile pinching her nose.
"whatever" she grins slapping my hands away.
"what are two beautiful ladies doing alone. Good thing I'm here to make you happy" we snap our heads to the tall brooding guy standing next to us. His blond curls fall to his face as he flashes us a toothy grin.
"We never told you we're lonely" I say ordering another glass of white wine. Liza leans in to whisper in my ear "he's an actor. Big actor"
"I don't care, he looks full of himself" I all but whisper.
He smirks "you know I can hear you both right?"
"that's the point" we say simultaneously.
He grins "feisty, I like that. I'm Jonathan by the way. Jonathan Steward. Nice to meet you Francesca and Liza"
Liza and I exchange looks "how did know our names?" Liza asks.
"are you kidding me? Your families are famous as hell" we chat for some time. Laughing at his hilarious jokes and throwing sass at him.
"I have a boyfriend and she's married" I gasp at Liza's bluntness. Surprisingly Jonathan starts chuckling.
"I know she's married" he says pointing towards me. But I didn't know you have a boyfriend" he says pointing towards Liza. Either way, I didn't come with ill intentions, I just want to chill and be friends with you both. I find it exciting and interesting that you both were content chatting and drinking in a club like no one was present"
"indeed, just admit that you're disappointed that we aren't available" Liza tells him.
"Oh please, like that can discourage me. I love challenges and the fact that there's a ring on it doesn't face me. But I'm fine with being just friends"
"I'm glad to disappoint you cause even if you were interested, I'll not give you a second glance" I say giving him a pointed look.
He smiles "why? You respect the ring?"
Liza gasps "forget the ring, have you seen her husband? Like do you know him? Why would any woman cheat on him"
"I know her husband, infact he's walking in right now" he says staring intently behind us.
We both turn around and see Damien and Fred casually walking into the bar. They're both on tuxes. Damien's tux is pearl and Sam's tux blue. They look like they're coming back from work and the opening of the top two buttons of Damien's sleeve shirt says it all. He's exhausted and he came here to relax. Everyone literally stops what they're doing and focuses all their attention on the two men walking in. The power, intimidating aura and confidence is unmistakable. Only Sam makes an effort to nod at the few people greeting them. Damien's hands are casually tucked in his pocket and he doesn't even pay heed to the attention and greetings he is getting. Even the freaking standing ovation. His eyes are focused on one thing. No, person... And that's me?
I take a sip of my wine as his hazel eyes hold my eyes with intensity. I haven't seen him in a week. Damien and Sam make their way to us and I exchange looks with Liza. The whole club is literally staring at us and I find it weird and uncomfortable. I get the usual glares from some ladies.
I finally snap out of my trance when I hear Jonathan clear his throat. Oh, he exists, I forgot for a moment. Sorry Jonathan...
"Hello ladies" Sam sings giving me a slight hug before pecking Liza on the lips. She smiles and circles her hands around his neck, pushing him closer. I roll my eyes, now people will expect some sort of show of affection from Damien and I.
To my surprise, he gently grabs my hands pulling me up and bringing me dangerously close to him. I notice our height difference again as he slightly looks down at my face. "hey" he whispers.
I shift uncomfortably and mentally slap myself for the heat I feel on my cheeks. I know we're just doing this for appearance but it's incredibly uncomfortable and I'm... Shy?
"Hey" I whisper barely recognizing my voice. He then gives me a slightly too long peck. Fifteen seconds, I counted. He keeps stealing kisses from me.
"Hello Damien" Jonathan says awkwardly before reaching out his hands for Damien to shake. Damien looks away from me and gives him his infamous blank stare.
He angles his eyes and raises his brows. "It's Mr Lorenzo for you" oh, Damien, ever so dramatic. He still doesn't shake shake him.
Jonathan awkwardly nods, still reaching out his hands. I turn to Damien and give him a pointed look "At least accept his handshake, many people are watching" I whisper.
"I don't like physical contact with people" he says staring at Jonathan.
I give him an incredulous look and gesture to our entwined hands. "But we're holding hands"
"You're my wife" he simply says. I roll my eyes and turn to Jonathan with an apologetic look.
"He's not a touchy person. If you don't mind I'll shake you" I say accepting his stretched hands while he gives me a small smile.  Jonathan seems nice plus if I don't accept the handshake, he might feel embarrassed.
"Are you two done smooching?" I ask playfully glaring at Sam and Liza. They separate and chuckle.
"Sam, Damien, this is Jonathan Steward. Our..." I trail off not knowing what to call him yet.
"Friend" Liza finishes off. Sam just nods at him while Damien turns his gaze to me. "Let's go to the VIP room" Damien suggests. I know he can't wait to go there so we could stop this uncomfortable display of affection and the feeling is mutual but I'd rather stay here and chat with Jonathan and even Liza if she feels like leaving Sam for a minute. The VIP room will be boring and uncomfortable for me cause Damien and I aren't really in talking terms right now or even at all. We're not really a real couple... Right?
