Epilogue II
*Lucas*
"Michael, can you drive any faster?" I asked Michael. Traffic was horrible, but we had gotten past the heavy traffic and were now headed towards New Jersey.
Michael scoffed. "I told you we should use the helicopter, Lucas. As usual, you never listen to me," Michael said dryly. "By the way, your phone is ringing."
I took out my phone and glanced at it. It was the High Lord Wolf. I grimaced. I forgot to tell him!
"Connor, sorry we didn't come get you. I was in a rush to leave the city-"
"I'm already here. Where the hell are the both of you?!" He was already there?
"How in the world did you get there so quickly?" I asked, surprised he was already there when Michael and I just got the call only an hour ago.
"I took the helicopter. I called Didi so we can all go together and she said you didn't come by Wolf Hall this morning so, I asked her to come with me instead," Connor replied. Shit! I forgot about Didi. She's going to scold me later.
"Tell Connor we're about half an hour away," Michael said.
"Michael says to tell you we are about a half an hour away," I conveyed the message.
"Half an hour? Everyone is already here. Diana is pissed," Connor said. "You could have just gone to Wolf Hall and we could have flown together."
"I know, I know...It's my fault. I was in the middle of a meeting with that investor you asked me to see at Broadway when I got the call. I panicked," I told him.
"Tell Michael then to drive faster. They're about to wheel Diana out," Connor said.
"Trust me, we'll get there. I promise. Just tell Diana to calm down and breath," I said. I could hear Diana screaming in the background.
"Uhm, I don't think I want to tell her that. Just get your asses here! Pronto!" The High Lord Wolf yelled, then hung up.
"Judging by the expression on your face, I can tell Diana isn't too happy we aren't there yet," Michael said. "We're almost there. I can already see a Wolf Troop van parked up ahead."
I looked through the window as Michael approached and indeed it was Wolf Troop Swat. The High Lord Wolf already sent security. One of the Wolf Troops saluted Michael then waved at us as we drove by.
A lot of changes happened once Connor became High Lord Wolf. There were Wolf Troops all over the country now who worked alongside the police and military. He wanted all of us to live in peace with the humans and made sure rogues didn't take advantage of the humans knowing wolves were much equipped to do so.
Michael, although he was still beside me most of the time, helped train the Wolf Troops with Chief Hathaway. Ethan also assisted in training the Wolf Troops. They taught them valuable techniques so silver bullets would be a last resort to neutralize a situation.
Didi became my secretary while Otis became Connor's executive assistant. Connor wanted to fire Otis' brother, Cavendish, but Otis explained it would be better to keep him since he knew the ins and outs of the whole bureaucracy since Cavendish had served the former High Lord Wolf. Cavendish now works under Otis as his secretary.
"Gosh, Lucas. It's been almost twenty years since we were here at Lakeweed General Hospital," Michael said as he drove into the parking lot after waving at a Wolf Troop who was guarding the entrance.
"Brings back memories. Mostly sad ones," I said, thinking of Amy once again. I missed her so much, but I knew she was watching over us.
Michael parked at an empty parking space near the entrance of the hospital. "Well, Diana is going to make new ones. Happier ones. Come on, Lucas. Aren't you excited you're going to be a grandfather?"
"I am. Just feeling a bit melancholic." I opened the door and got of the car with the bag of baby items Diana had stashed in my car. Otis was at the entrance of the hospital waiting for us with a number of Wolf Troops. The Wolf Troops stood at attention when they saw Michael.
"Master Chief!" They all said.
"At ease, gentlemen. Keep an eye out for rogues. There's intel some of One's disciples have been roaming the vicinity. The High Lord Wolf is here. If you see anything, and I mean anything out of the ordinary, tell me," Michael ordered while inserting his earpiece.
"Yes sir!" The Wolf Troops positioned themselves at the entrance making sure they could sniff out a rogue.
Ever since One was incarcerated at Wolf Penitentiary, Sixth became the leader of the rogues. He abolished everything illegal and created opportunities for the rogues to contribute to society as law abiding citizens with the help of Connor and myself. Unfortunately, there were rogues who didn't particularly like the set-up, especially the ones who lost their very large incomes. They formed a small group of their own to continue their illegal and underground activities, however since Sixth knew every tiny detail of One's operations and Diana could hear their thoughts, it was easy for the Wolf Troops to find them. Yet their leader, Eleven, and a few more kept evading arrest.
Diana, on the other hand, stopped using her powers once she became pregnant. Onyx explained all the energy necessary to create magic was now needed for the blessing of the Moon Goddess. Because of this, Michael ordered everyone to keep Diana's pregnancy a secret and increased security around Diana. He didn't want to take any chances.
"They're on the second floor, Sir. Dr. Matthews and Dr. Manning are prepping the delivery room for Diana. She will be transferred to the delivery room once she speaks with you. Room 213, High Councilman," Otis said. "Emmett is already inside in the waiting area, standing guard."
"Thank you, Otis," I said, patting him on the back. "Michael let's go see Diana before she kills us." She was in labor earlier than expected yet her belly was so huge and ripe, she looked like she was already at term. As much as Dr. Matthews tried, she couldn't see Diana's baby through ultrasound. However, she did hear more than one heartbeat suggesting Diana had a multiple pregnancy.
We entered the hospital and saw Emmett in the waiting room with my mother and Rose. Emmett was talking to a sickly little girl who was seated in a wheel chair hugging her ratty doll while her mother was busy filling up paperwork for hospital admissions. I saw him glance at the mother to make sure she wasn't looking and secretly placed his hand on the child's cheek. I noticed a faint blue light and instantly the girl looked much better. Her pale face from earlier now had some color and her cheeks were now rosy. I smiled. Emmett was using his gift of healing to save a young girl's life.
"Let's take the stairs. I don' trust elevators," Michael said. "Seems Emmett just gave a small girl and her mother their lives back."
I nodded. "She must have a good heart."
"Her and her mother. The mother has holes in her shoes. I just mind-linked Emmett to give them my number. I'll ask Athena to give her a job and accommodations," Michael said, pulling out his phone to message Athena.
We walked up the stairs to the second floor and when Michael opened the door of the stairwell, a Wolf Troop suddenly appeared to stop us, if it weren't for Michael.
"Security is jumpy," I said as the Wolf Troop apologized and let us pass.
"Well, we're on red alert. Ah, there's the High Lord Wolf now with Didi," Michael said, pointing at Connor. He was wearing a nice dark blue suit with a grey tie looking very dashing, a very stark contrast from before. Matt, his Beta, was now Alpha of his pack and was probably patrolling the vicinity knowing Connor was here.
"Where's Ethan?" I asked as I shook Connor's hand.
"You hear the screaming inside? Ethan's trying to calm Diana down," Connor answered.
"You better go inside Lucas. She's been asking for you. She won't enter the delivery room until you show up even though Dr. Matthews has been telling her that it can't wait," Didi answered. "Go on, before she rips Ethan's head off."
I sighed and fixed my hair. My only daughter was in labor and was in foul mood. I didn't have a lot going for me. I knocked on the door and walked in.
"Dad! What took you so long?! I'm about to give birth!" Diana screamed through clenched teeth. She was in a hospital gown and she was dripping sweat. Her green eyes were dark and her face was scrunched up from pain.
"Sorry, Diana. Traffic was bumper to bumper. Anyway, I'm here now with the bag you wanted me to bring for you," I said sheepishly. "Forgive your old man. I'll make it up to you by babysitting."
"Bumper to bumper! Why didn't you have Uncle Mike fly you?!" She was clenching Ethan's hand and everyone could see he was in actual pain from Diana's grip.
"Kiddo, we'll talk about this later. We're here. Right now, Dr. Matthews needs to deliver your pups," Michael pointed at Dr. Mattews who looked frustrated and exasperated. "We'll be here waiting for you when you're done giving birth. Alright, Diana?" Michael said to calm her down. Diana nodded her head and I gave her a kiss on her forehead. She instantly calmed down.
"Okay, okay," she exhaled deeply, letting go of Ethan's hand. "Doc, it's time."
Dr. Matthews sighed in relief. She gestured to her team who was waiting patiently to roll Diana out of her room. "Inform Dr. Manning we're on our way to the delivery room."
Ethan gave Diana a kiss on her cheek. "I'll see you there after I change into scrubs." The nurses wheeled out Diana and Dr. Matthews turned to us.
"I'll keep all of you updated. Ethan, follow the nurse. She will give you some scrubs and will show you how to scrub your hands and arms. I'll see you there. High Councilman, if you're hungry, there's a cafeteria downstairs. I suggest you and the High Lord Wolf get a bite to eat. Come on Ethan."
"I'll see you guys later." Ethan walked out of the room and followed a nurse so she could provide him with scrubs. I glanced at Michael and at the empty room and decided it was best if we grabbed a snack. I walked out of the room to invite the High Lord Wolf for a cup of coffee.
"At least the screaming stopped," Connor said as he watched Diana and the medical personnel enter the elevator. "She was cussing to high heavens each time she felt a contraction. So what do you guys want to do while we wait?"
"Let's grab a cup of coffee and a donut downstairs at the cafeteria," I answered. "Didi come with us. Today, I'm giving you the day off."
"Oh thank you, Lucas. That means I can pick up Harley early after school and drop him off at the mansion," Didi said, happily. Didi loved her job, but it was hard juggling her job and giving her son the attention he needed. I believed she needed a change from her busy schedule, but there was just so much work we needed to do.
"Sure, let's get some coffee. There are a few things I need to discuss with you while we're here," Connor said. He walked to the stairwell where Michael was already waiting for us. Michael opened the door to the stairwell, went in first, and we followed.
We invited Rose, my mother and Emmett who was trying to untangle himself from the grateful young mother of the little girl. Apparently, Athena had already called to tell them a job was waiting for the young mother in New York City. To take the attention away from himself, Emmett pointed at Michael and the young mother rushed over to hug a very embarrassed Michael.
After paying for our food and coffee, we all sat down in the farthest corner of the cafeteria away from the crowd. Connor and I were discussing the shares the Council had of the oil company who bought my mother's wolf pack's land from my father when Michael touched his earpiece.
"We have some movement outside. I have to go and check it out," he said, standing up. "Emmett, I need you to head up to the second floor and guard Diana." Emmett nodded his head, stood up and left.
"What about us?" Connor asked, standing up.
"I'll have the Wolf Troops escort you to the helipad," Michael answered, but before Connor could say something, he ran out of the cafeteria
"Hell no. I want to fight!" Connor exclaimed.
"High Lord Wolf, we need you to fight for us as the leader of the wolves," I explained, hoping he would reconsider.
"Lucas, this is Diana we're talking about. I am not leaving. I'll ready the medical helicopter just in case Diana needs to be transferred and I'm calling Matt. We might need reinforcements," Connor said.
I turned to Didi. "Call the mansion. Have Diana's Gamma ready the pack. If something happens, we will not let any of the culprits leave New Jersey alive." Didi nodded her head and proceeded to call Lotus Pack.
"The babies are here. Two boys and a girl," Emmett announced through mind-link. I saw Connor smile. We were grandfathers.
Michael entered the cafeteria once again with a smile on his face. Behind him were Harriet and Edward. We all sighed, relieved it was just them.
"The Wolf Troops wouldn't let us in unless we were cleared by Michael. We arrived this morning. Ethan said Diana had a feeling she was going to deliver soon. Good thing we flew in or we would have missed it. Two boys and a girl. How wonderful!" Harriet said after hugging Didi.
"Future Alphas of three packs," Connor said brightly. I chuckled and put an arm around him.
"The one who loves beer as much as you do will definitely agree to be Alpha of your pack," I said. We all laughed.
