Chapter 90 Night Terrors
*Wolf Troop Traitor *
The bottom line...I wanted money. After the bounty was announced, I knew the only way I could get some part of it was to give out intel to the Chief. I've been working for these VIP's for several years now and it was not as rewarding as I had hoped for. Honest work does not pay.
Everytime I would see the Chief's men, I couldn't help, but feel envious. They had the latest gadgets, nice shoes, nice cars and would always talk about the sirloin steak they had for dinner. I wanted what they had even if it meant I had to become like one of them, a dirty Wolf Troop.
After Captain Hathaway had briefed us on our mission to help Diana and Lucas Lockwood, I sent the Chief a message telling him their plans. He called me to confirm.
"Wolf Troop, you mean to say Lucas will be at the hospital while Connor will be at Lockwood Towers. What about the girl?" Chief asked.
"She is to transport the rogue out of the hotel," I answered.
"To where?"
"To the hospital, I presume," I replied.
"You presume?"
"All I know is a fellow Wolf Troop will help escort the rogue to her vehicle," I said.
"So she will be on the ground while the rest will be travelling via helicopter. I will have a team ready to ambush her vehicle once they leave the hotel. Send me a photo of her entering her vehicle as well as the license plates. There should be no room for mistakes," the Chief said.
"Sir, how about my compensation?" I asked.
"I will give you your share of the bounty once all three are in my custody," he answered.
"I want a million dollars," I told him boldly. "I believe I deserve that amount." I heard him say something to someone and they all chuckled in the background.
"One million it is then. However, if I do not get what I want, you will get nothing and I will come knocking on your door for a bit of fun," the Chief said, his voice dripping with malcontent. "'Til we meet, One Million." He hung up.
I was tasked by Captain Hathaway to tail Diana Lockwood out of the hotel and follow her wherever she went. I decided to wait in my car before 3AM near the RV which Captain Hathaway had said would be Diana Lockwood's designated transport.
I took a short nap, had a bite to eat and sat in my car to wait. I was alert and prepared to speed through the streets of New York. However when the clock struck three o'clock, I felt my brain go numb while my eyelids became so heavy I could not keep them open. I feel asleep before I had the chance to see Diana Lockwood enter the parking lot.
I found myself sitting on a fence gazing up at the sunset. I was at my grandfather's farm. When I was a kid, I enjoyed sitting on the fence just watching the sky turn to dark. I wanted a place like this of my own and if I had the money, I would buy acres and acres of land near the mountains, raise cattle and horses until I die.
My surroundings suddenly turned dark like someone turned off the light. I looked up above me, but I could not see even one single star in the sky. It was just pitch black. I listened for the sounds of crickets chirping or maybe the rustle of dried leaves on the ground, but I didn't hear a thing. Where was I? I patted myself down to find the trusty lighter I always brought with me. Even if I didn't smoke, having a source of fire on my person is important especially when you are on your own.
I tried to ignite a flame by rolling the sparkwheel of the lighter, but it didn't work. I blinked rapidly so my eyes could adjust to the darkness. I still couldn't see anything.
"Well, hello, little one..." I heard a soft deep voice. It wasn't loud, but it was loud enough for me to hear. I crouched low, trying to hide myself. I covered my mouth with my hand to conceal my breathing. I heard a deep chuckle. It seemed to echo around me.
"You can not hide from me, little one. I can see you clearly without a light," the voice said. Little one? I was tall than the average man and my wolf was bigger than most. "I can smell you, little one. Your body reeks of fear. Such a strong scent." Whatever the source of the voice was, it was now closer. Almost infront of me.
"W-who a-are you? Stay away from me. I am armed and dangerous," I yelled, threatening whatever was out there. It wasn't a threat though. I was merely saying it to convince myself. I heard my wolf whimpering. How can my wolf be scared?
"How wonderful! I'm up for a game of sport. Whoever takes the first bite wins," the voice said, loudly this time and full of excitement. I decided it would be better for me to shift to my wolf when I have a better view of my surroundings.
It took me a couple of tries before I was able to produce a flame from my lighter. With each try, I took a step back, still crouching low to keep hidden. When the lighter suddenly sparked a flame, I was shocked to see a pair of green eyes staring back at me. The large black wolf's head was bent, its sharp teeth dripping with saliva as the flame reflected a red glow on its huge nozzle.
"Boo!" It exclaimed before extinguishing the light. The darkness of my surroundings engulfed me to my inevitable peril.
I tried to shift to my wolf, but before I could, the razor sharp teeth of the black wolf took hold of me and lifted me from where I crouched. My deafening screams could not be heard as the black wolf ravaged my body. All of a sudden, to my relief, the black wolf let go and dropped me to the ground. I could feel the searing pain of my injuries, however I was glad I was still breathing.
"I seek retribution for your betrayal. Do not worry, little one. You are not the only one I have come to punish. There are many others. All of you will suffer the same fate," the voice said, clearly enjoying my torment.
"P-please, let me live," I begged. "I will never betray you again. You have my word."
"The little one knows how to beg, yet he does not know repentance. Tsk, tsk. I will give you time to repent, little one. Ask for forgiveness from the Moon Goddess. If you do not atone for your sins, your wounds will not heal. Then your soul is mine..." The black wolf's voice trailed off as I opened my eyes. I noticed the light coming from the entrance of the parking lot. To my utmost joy, I was still alive!
I heard a banging from the side of the car. "Hey! Do you need help? You were screaming," a security guard of the hotel said. "Oh my gosh! I'll call 911 right away." He took out his phone and started dialing. "Yes, there's a man here at the Four Seasons Hotel who's hurt. He needs an ambulance right away."
I moved to sit up properly, but an excruciating pain radiated throughout my body. I looked down at myself. My eyes widened at what I saw...
There was two puncture wounds on my arm, my blood dripping from it. They were obviously bite marks. The flesh of a thigh of one of my legs was also missing.
I had been savagely mauled in my sleep!
_______________
*Doctor of the High Lord Wolf *
The intercom buzzed. The High Lord Wolf was comfortably situated in one the hospital suites and I had left him to attend to my other patients. It was almost 6AM and daylight began to stream through the windows.
"Doctor, you are urgently needed on the second floor," the nurse said, frantic. "Something has happened to your patients."
"What room?" I asked. Did the nurses already notice the two old wolves who Alpha Lucas helped escape?
"Room 230, Doctor. Hurry. There is something happening to him."
"I'll be there straight away." I hung up. "Nurse Evans, place make sure nothing happens to the High Lord Wolf. I have an emergency on the second floor." Nurse Evans raised his eyebrow, puzzled.
"Doc, the three wolves you admitted for night terrors?" He asked.
"Maybe just one of them. Call me if you encounter any problems," I instructed. He nodded his head at me as I exited my office to go to the second floor.
When the elevators pinged open, I was surprised to hear screams throughout the hallway coming from room 230. I saw some nurses entering the room while some were waiting ouside in fright. What was going on?
I ran to the room and found blood spattered everywhere. I looked at the two wolves that I had placed there. One wolf had a gash on his leg while the other had various wound all over his body. Who could do such a thing like this? Did Alpha Lucas do this?
"H-help me," said the wolf with the most injuries. I began to address his wounds. I noticed a couple of puncture wounds on his leg.
"Who did this to you?" I asked, hoping I would get some answers. "Did you see who did this to you?" The wolf nodded his head to my question.
"Yes? And who was it?" I coaxed gently.
"T-the black wolf. She said if I do not repent, my wounds will not heal and I will die a painful death," he said.

*Eric Lockwood *
I woke up from the light entering my window which casted a gray and gloomy hue throughout my room. I was drenched in sweat. I pushed my blanket aside, sat upright and tried to stretch, but I felt a sudden searing pain coming from arm. I looked at my arm and was shocked to find puncture wounds. It was a bite mark. I looked at my bed and found a blood stain from my wounds.
All I remember is the nightmare of being hunted. A menacing monstrous figure was chasing me throughout the forest. All I could see was its green eyes and large blood stained teeth through the darkness. Not even the light from the moon could give me a clear picture of the monstrosity that was chasing me. Her voice was deep and husky and my wolf whimpered whenever it spoke.
"Little one, there is no place for you to run to and hide. I will find you. The elixir is of no use in my realm. All I need to do is follow the foul stench of your fear, Eric Lockwood," it said.
I had shifted into my wolf so I could run faster and jump over the big rocks and tree trunks that scattered on the cold ground of the forest. However, even my wolf wasn't quick enough. I could sense the beast encroaching closer and closer to me as I ran. I noticed a clearing through the trees and light shining up ahead and I decided to run towards it so I can at least catch a glimpse of the animal that was stalking me as its prey. I was about to reach the clearing when its sharp teeth took hold of one of my legs. My wolf gave an earth shattering cry as its teeth sank into our flesh. My wolf struggled to loosen the hold it had on us, however with each movement, the beast's teeth sank further into our flesh.
Relief spread throughout me when the beast let go of my leg, however the hairs on the back of my neck stood up upon hearing its chilling words.
"I will give you time to repent. Ask the Moon Goddess forgiveness for your sins," it said while my blood dripped from its large wide mouth. "If you ignore me, Eric Lockwood, you will suffer the consequences by the hands of your granddaughter. She will hang your head on a post for all to laugh at. Mark my words, little one."
I awoke up to find myself inside my room. I convinced myself that it was all a dream, yet looking at my wound, my nightmare was all too real.
I heard the door of my room creak. Odd. I remember closing my door before I went to sleep. I heard the loud unmistakable sound of voices downstairs. What was going on? Was I still dreaming?
I decided I should just get up, get dressed and get to the bottom of things. I stood up, grimacing from my injury and walked to the bathroom. I'm a wolf...my wound will heal in a couple of hours. This was nothing. Basically, a scratch.
I took a quick shower, bandaged my wounds and quickly got dressed. The noise downstairs had now become more rowdier. I heard the distinctive sound of Chase's voice as I exited my room and proceeded down the stairs.
"What is this meaning of this? Lucas, how dare you bring your half-breed daughter into my house!" Chase exclaimed. Lucas and my granddaughter are here? "I am Alpha of the Lotus Pack and I do not recall ever giving you or my niece permission to enter this house."
"You are not Alpha of the Lotus Pack. I am," a young woman said. "And this is not your house. It is mine. All of what you believe to be yours is mine." I heard the authority in her voice.
"You're Alpha?!" Chase scoffed. A half-breed bastard of a fallen wolf? And pray tell...How are you Alpha?"
"By virtue of this ring," the young woman replied.
The ring! She had the ring! The ring of the Alpha of Lotus Pack! I knew Lucas left with the ring in tow. I had told Chase that Lucas would not leave the ring knowing the ring is a symbol of the true Alpha of the pack. And now it has appeared...in the hands of my half-human granddaughter.
I quickly descended the staircase. If it was only the two of them, Chase and I with the help of the wolves in the territory can bring them down. My stupid granddaughter didn't know what she was up against.
I arrived to the bottom of the stairs and stared at the people who were sitting casually in the living room. Chase was standing near the fireplace, his face red with anger.
"Oh, hello, Eric Lockwood. You and One share the number one spot as my most favorite wolves," a man's voice said from behind me.
I turned around to find Alpha Connor sitting at the chair at the bottom of the stairs. A cup of coffee in his hands. He stood up and raised his eyes to meet mine and smiled malevolently.
"Today is my lucky day. I get to meet the wolf who ordered the extermination of my pack."
