Chapter 10

**Daniel**

I couldn't help but laugh at my little mate. It was funny to think she didn't even know my name. I guess when you're being carried away by a pissed off mate you tend to forget formalities.
"Daniel I need you in my office now," Rick said through mindlink.
I didn't want to leave her. Even though we got off to a rough start her smile made me forget all of that. It didn't matter how I found her or how much she would undoubtedly put me through, it was worth it just to hear her laugh. But I couldn't disobey a direct order.
"I'm sorry sweetheart I have to leave you. Rick says he needs to see me in his office," I told her.
I quickly mindlinked Grace and Madison to come stay with her.
Grace was a happy go lucky person that got along with pretty much everyone in the pack. She was bubbly and always smiling. She was also a future healer and I hoped they would become quick friends. Madison was almost the opposite. She was a very serious person and to see her crack a smile was like opening the perfect gift on Christmas. She was the best female fighter we had though and I knew I could count on her to protect my mate. She took her job seriously and I admired her for it.
"I'll be fine go," Marilyn said unphased.
"You won't try to run will you?" I asked her in a humorous tone although I was deadly serious.
We may be sort of getting along for the moment but I knew I had to win her over. I wasn't stupid enough to think that her feelings for that asshole were gone completely or that she trusted me enough to stay put. Which is why I had to make sure she was in trusted hands that wouldn't let her get away from me.
"No I'm not going to run. I can tell you're trying and I respect that. Besides it's too cliche," she said.
My wolf was overjoyed that she was warming up to us. I laughed for the second time that day. I couldn't help but wonder, would she always be able to make me laugh so easily? Was this what I had to look forward to forever? If so I would be sure to count my blessings.
"You're right it is. But humor me."
Grace and Madison walked in right on time.
"Who are they?" she asked.
"This is Madison, and this is Grace," I said pointing to each of them. "They will be keeping you company while I'm gone. Ladies this is my mate Marilyn."
The look of shock on her face was priceless.
"I don't need babysitters. I can take care of myself," she said outraged.
"Of course you can. Now you girls play nice," I said closing the door before she could protest.
Five minutes later I was walking into Rick's office.
"It's about time. Have a seat," he said slightly annoyed.
Mitchell had already arrived with a couple of the guards.
"Now I called you all here to fill you in on the current situation with your Luna. As you know we have been hunting for the person responsible for causing her harm for months now," he said in full alpha mode.
We all growled when he mentioned someone hurting our Luna.
"When I was interrogating the prisoner over in Marcus' territory I discovered a few things. First I do not think his prisoner was directly related. However, I do think there is a possibility that he may be indirectly related. He seemed too familiar with some of the people we captured and already killed. I think we may be looking for a friend or relative of his. If I'm right this means that there is a link and I intend to find it. I also caught a scent on the way there. It was the same one we've been smelling which means we are being watched. I have a feeling they have been watching us for longer than we realize and are using something to hide their scents. Last night someone got sloppy and forgot letting me know we were followed. We need to make sure all bases are covered. I have someone working on some new weapons and something that will hide our scents as well. Daniel I will need that keen sense of smell you have now more than ever. If you detect even the smallest unfamiliar scent I want to know about it. One last thing before you all are dismissed. You're Luna knows nothing about any of this and I plan to keep that way. From now on Mitchell you and Daniel will stay with her when I'm away, I need the best with her at all times. Are we clear?"
"Yes alpha" we all said in unison.

**Marilyn**

I couldn't believe he left me with guards. I just wanted to slap that smirk off his face. To top it off they were both females. I never got along with other women. They always seemed to hate me.
We just looked at each other in complete silence before the one he called Grace decided to break it.
"Alright this is boring and quite frankly a bit awkward. Since we're going to be here for I don't know how long we should make the most of it, don't you think?" she asked.
"Ummm I guess," I said uncertainly.
"Okay then let's do some exploring. I'm sure you don't want to stay cooped up in here all day. I can show you around the house a little. Maybe later we could do some shopping and hit a club or two. You party?" she asked.
"Not really," I didn't like clubs.
"Awesome I get to corrupt you," she said excitedly.
I highly doubted that but she was so happy I didn't want to burst her bubble.
We walked around and she showed me where everything was in the house. I had to admit it was nice to see the rest of it. The house was huge and I would have never known half of it existed.
We headed outside and she showed me where most of the members went on runs. There was a pool, tennis court, and basketball court out there as well.
Madison remained quite the whole time, simply starring at her nails. She was probably another girl that I would be adding to my list of ones that hated me.
Not long after we finished the tour her expression changed. She had a far away look in her eyes and I knew she was mindlinking with someone.
"Daniel wants you back," she informed us speaking for the very first time.
We headed back and I couldn't help but wonder if Daniel and her had something going on. She was certainly pretty and the fact that she had been cold and ignored me made me question if it had something to do with him.
"Whatever it doesn't matter anyway I'm not jealous," I said to myself trying to shake the feeling. I had never been the jealous type, I didn't even know why I cared all of a sudden.
Daniel was there waiting when I entered the room. He dismissed them and sat down in one of the chairs facing me.
"So what did you ladies do?" he asked.
"Nothing really. They just showed me around. Grace wants to maybe do some shopping later and hit a couple of clubs," I told him rolling my eyes at the thought of going to a club.
"Shopping sure. Clubs no way in hell. I'm going to have to have a talk with her. Besides you don't seem like the party type," he said.
Even though he was right I was furious. Nobody told me what to do short of an alpha command. Just because I was quite and preferred books to a room full of alcoholics did not mean I liked when people made assumptions. Hell he didn't even know me and he was already trying to judge and control me.
"What does that supposed to mean? How do you know I'm not the partying type? And who do you think you are telling me where I can and can't go? If I want to go out I will," I said angrily. Yes I was probably overreacting but I had a point to prove.
He just looked at me with an amused expression.
"So you're telling me you want to go clubbing?"
"Yes," I said crossing my arms for effect. I knew I would regret that simple word. I really didn't want to go. I just wanted to push his buttons the way he pushed mine, but it was too late.
"Okay fine. I'll tell Grace you're going and I'm coming with you."
