Chapter 30
**Marilyn**
My head was throbbing and my throat felt drier than the hottest desert. There was a slight pain in my side and my eye lids felt heavy. Not to mention the annoying beeping sound that made me want to throw something.
"Make it stop," I groaned trying to cover my face with a pillow. I was unsuccessful since my arms didn't seem to want to work correctly.
I heard footsteps and finally I managed to get my eyes open.
"Oh my goodness your awake," said a lady who I assumed was the nurse.
"I'll just get the doctor," she said rushing out of the room.
I pulled myself up to a sitting position and winced a little. My muscles were stiff and I was still a little sore. I noticed a bottle of un- opened water on the bedside table and opened it. I drank it greedily thankful for its hydration. I was already feeling slightly better when the doctor walked in.
"Glad to see you’re awake. We were expecting you to be out at least a few days. I guess your wolf had other plans," he said looking through a chart.
"What happened?" I asked, my voice back to normal.
"You were stabbed with a blade laced with silver and an unknown substance. We assumed it was wolf’s bane or another deadly poison, but it seems we were wrong. Whatever it was only knocked you out temporarily. The silver slowed the healing process. Either way you're very lucky your mate got there when he did. You would have bleed out within the hour unconscious and without the help of your wolf."
The word mate immediately made me long for Daniel.
"Where is Daniel?" I asked desperate to see him.
"He had to leave."
He looked at me with a grim expression. I knew he was hiding something. Daniel was the gamma and always on the front line but I felt this time it was more than that.
"I need to find him," I said throwing the covers off and getting out of bed. My legs were wobbly but at least I could stand.
"No. You need to stay here. We have to run some more tests," he said trying to help me back into bed. I was about to accept his words when I felt a sharp pain that didn't belong to me. My wolf whimpered and her next words were enough to give me the strength to run right out of the doors as the doctor called my name repeatedly.
"Mates in trouble. He needs us," she said as I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I was glad the time I spent recovering was enough to allow me to connect with her again. The silver was completely out of my system and I felt fine now the drugs were wearing off.
I searched frantically for his scent hoping I wasn't too late. I ignored the blood that seemed to be everywhere and tried to focus on him. Then I remembered what the she wolf who tried to kill me said about my uncle waiting for me once I escaped. There was only on other opening besides the front entrance to the safe house. If I knew Daniel that's where I would find him.
He would do whatever he could to put an end to this and it didn't take a genius to figure out he would want to hunt down and kill my uncle. He was strong but he didn't know what he was getting into. My uncle was cunning. He wanted him dead because he knew I would suffer. There was no doubt in my mind that he had been watching me since Daniel took me away and planned everything perfectly.
When I made it to the clearing I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My mate was surrounding by some powerful looking rogues and he seemed to be holding his own. He was throwing wolves left and right. A few were lifeless on the ground. He had a few scars but nothing deadly. My uncle watched from the sidelines and I knew he was waiting for them to tire Daniel out before he could kill him like the coward he was.
I was making my way to them when things took a turn for the worst. One of the rogues slashed Daniel's side and blood poured out. He stumbled but he refused to fall down as he let out a fierce growl and attacked. My uncle took that moment to make his move and blindsided him knocking him off his feet.
"No!" I screamed as I shifted and lunged for my uncle. I wasn't one to enjoy killing but he deserved it. I clawed at every part of him I could reach as he tried to throw me off.
"You little bitch. I'm going to enjoy killing you," he said through the mind link. Unfortunately, we were family so he still connects with me.
He finally got the upper hand and I went flying into a tree. Before I could get up Daniel was back on his feet and fighting my uncle as they went blow for blow as he tried to distract him.
"Marilyn what the hell are you doing out here get back to the pack house now!" he yelled through mind link. He had to be joking. There was no way I was leaving him.
Rather than respond I charged at the rogue who was getting to his feet ready to attack Daniel. I took him down easily but he kept trying to bite me as he growled. I saw my opening and went for his throat ending his life as I turned my attention back to my mate.
If it wasn't for the glimmer of light, I wouldn't have seen it. Maybe if I hadn't seen it I could have gotten to him sooner. My uncle’s claws extended and the ones on the right were coated in silver. He had been toying with us all along and now he was angry. Those claws were his secret weapon and when he stuck them into Daniel's already injured side he fell to the ground looking lifeless.
I lost it. My wolf howled and I saw red. I charged at my uncle not caring that he could kill me. I would fight for my mate. I wouldn't let him get away. Not this time, not with Daniel's life hanging in the balance.
I went straight for the kill as I lunged at his throat. He dodged and tried to swipe me but I moved quickly. I forced myself to focus. If I learned anything from training it was blind rage got you killed.
He came at me again and I noticed a few things. For one he was weak. My mate did a number on him. I had no doubt he would be dead if my uncle wasn't such a coward choosing to fight dirty with silver.
Daniel had been an inch away from killing him. His throat was bleeding and he had a wounded leg and shoulder in addition to a pierced side.
We circled each other and I knew I had to act fast. I mind linked Alpha Rick quickly so my mate could get some help. This was my battle and my uncle belonged to me. I didn't need or want any help. I just needed Daniel to be okay.
"Give up you little slut. Come now and maybe I won't kill you yet." His words were chilling but they didn't affect me anymore. I wasn't afraid of him.
"You might as well kill me now then because I'm never going anywhere with you. I rather die hear than surrender to you. You are a disgrace to my mother. She gave up her life for me and you're trying to kill me. The only niece you'll ever have. You sick bastard!" He looked shocked and for a split second I thought I saw remorse. Obviously I was wrong.
"I disgrace her? You killed her! You should have never been born. You don't get to live happily ever after what you did. You'll never be half the woman she was. Now you will die like you should have died years ago."
He charged at me in blind fury and I knew this was it. It was either him or me as I met him in midair.
