Chapter 27

**Marilyn**

Everything slowed down. It was like I was watching a movie in slow motion. I could hear the alphas giving orders but I was frozen. He found me.
"Marilyn you have to go to the safe house now," I heard Daniel say urgently. I snapped out of my daze. That's when it hit me. He would be going up against these rogues, he was third in command and his life would be on the line. He might not come back to me.
"No. I want to come with you." I wasn't going to go to some safe house. My uncle was after me, no one else. I couldn't let these people die because of me, especially not him.
"No. You're going to the safe house and that's final," he said angrily.
"But-" he cut me off before I could finish.
"Take her to the safe house and keep her there," he told one of the guards.
"Yes sir," he replied bowing in respect. Daniel took off and he immediately begin to drag me kicking and screaming to the safe house.
"Let me go!" I screamed as I was shoved through a door. I banged on it continuously begging to be let out before I slumped to the floor in a heap letting my tears fall. I felt like the weak useless girl all over again. The one who was picked on and tormented. The damsel in distress that needed everyone to come to her rescue. The one who no one let fight her own battles because she was weak and fragile. I hated the feeling. I had been trying so hard to be stronger. To prove that I was worthy of being the female third in command. Yet here I was locked in some safe house with pregnant women and children. I didn't care that people were seeing me break down. It didn't matter what they thought because it was all true. I was weak. I wasn't worthy of being Daniel's mate.
"Are you okay?" I looked up see Destiny. I hadn't noticed her and it took me by surprise. Not only was she here, but she was speaking to me. She even sounded concerned. I really thought she hated me.
"I'll take that as a no," she said softly when I didn't reply. I just shook my head and went back to starring at the floor.
"Look I know it's hard when the men go out to fight. But you have to have faith that everything will be okay. That they'll come back to us." I knew she was trying to make me feel better, but nothing could. Not when I knew I was the cause of all of this. Then it came to me, maybe she knew a way out. This was her territory after all. Maybe she could help me escape.
"Do you know a way out of here?" I asked desperately.
"There is no way out. Why do you ask?" she said confused.
"I just need to get out of here it's important. Can you help me?"
"Only guards can come in and out. If you leave the alphas will have their heads." I knew she was telling the truth. The alphas would be furious if someone got past the guards who were supposed to be protecting the future generations. I guess I was completely stuck down here. I sighed feeling defeated once again.
"Destiny come here for a second. I need your help," an older woman called. She gave me a sympathetic look before heading off. I was wallowing in self pity when a woman woman with light brown eyes and lovely face came and sat next to me. Her voice was barely above a whisper when she spoke.
"So you want out?" she said casually not bothering to look at me. I assuming she overheard me and Destiny's conversation. I really didn't know how I felt about her at the moment.
"Yeah why?" I said kind of suspiciously.
"I know a way" she softly. The distant look on her face and her reluctance to look at me made me question whether or not I could trust her.
"But Destiny said-"
"I know what she said. Now I'm telling you there is a way. Do you want my help or not?" I gave her a look that clearly said 'rude much'. She was really strange and the more she talked the less I liked her.
"Okay I'm listening."
"There is an entrance that only alpha, beta, and third in command know about. It is only used in emergencies in case the guards are attacked and they need to move us quickly without being detected." I wanted to ask how she knew but decided it was none of my business.
"Why are you telling me this? Who are you?" I questioned. I didn't know her and had never seen her before so why she wanted to help was beyond me.
"Who I am doesn't matter and I'm telling you this because it is your destiny. Your mate will need you." I didn't know what to say.I was lost for words.Could she see the future or something?
"Now I need you to listen very carefully. You will only get one chance at this. On the other side of the room on the wall there is will be a button that you cannot see but you can feel. Once it is pushed you fall through a trap door, do not scream. Once you hit the ground there will be a staircase. You will walk up that staircase and it will lead into another room. This room will be heavily guarded. You will have ten seconds to make it across the room and lock the door from the outside before the alarm sounds and alerts the guards. The system detects motion and scans the room every ten seconds. If you trip a laser or you're too slow you're out of luck. Once you make it out you have to get past the guards and you're free." My jaw dropped. I was supposed to find an invisible button and go through some trap door and then up like my life depended on it to get to the other side of a secured room. To top it all off I was supposed to take down a couple guards. Did she have any idea how crazy that sounded?
"Are you out of your mind?" I asked incredulously.
"It's the only way. That door we came through is five types of steel. If you can get through that you're more than amazing," she said nonchalantly.
I had no choice. I had to do this. Not just for me but for everyone in the pack. My uncle would stop at nothing to get to me. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing. I would surrender to him if I had to but this had to end. No more running, no more hiding. It was now or never.
