Chapter 29
**Daniel**
I was on the front line killing ever rogue in sight when I heard a voice in my head stop me dead in my tracks.
"Daniel we need help. There is an impostor down here," Marilyn said quickly.
An impostor? In the safe house? What the hell was happening down there?
"Marilyn!" I yelled trying to reach her. She didn't respond. I didn't feel anything which meant she must have closed the link.
"Dammit" I cursed as I mindlinked Rick. He didn't answer so I started searching for him and the others. This was bad, really bad. We were in the middle of a war with a fucking imposter trapped underground with the next generation. I wasn't even going to ask if shit could get worse.
I ended the rogues life I was fighting and headed to the safe house. I had to save Marilyn and the others and searching for the alphas was wasting time.
"Open the doors," I said to the guards. They looked to one another before one of them spoke nervously.
"We have instructions from the alpha sir to open for no one except him," he said avoiding my gaze.
"Open the damn doors," I said grabbing him by the throat, my voice laced with venom.
"Daniel what the hell is going on?" I heard Rick's voice say out of no where. I know he was wondering why I was threatening a guard on another alpha's territory.
"Impostor" was the only word I had to say. I was his gamma, he trusted me and knew I wasn't in the mood to explain. Innocent lives were at risk and I didn't have time to waste. I dropped the guard and he scrambled to his feet rushing to get the doors open. Rick and I rushed inside. I saw red. Marilyn was on the floor with a knife in her side as a woman smirked at her fallen body. I growled furiously. My wolf and I both wanting her blood on our hands.
"Stand down Daniel. Take care of Marilyn I'll handle this," Rick instructed. My eyes didn't leave the woman. "Your mate needs you more right now," Rick said bringing me back to reality. I looked at Marilyn and it tore my heart seeing her look so broken. I took her in my arms and ran as fast as I could to the pack doctor.
When I got there I was shocked at how many people had been injured. Even though we were winning looking around the rooms made me feel like we lost. The hardest part of the job was watching others in pain. People lost their mates, sons, daughters, parents, aunts, uncles, and more during these wars which is why we took even the smallest of threats seriously.
I laid Marilyn on an empty bed and kissed her cheek.
"I'm here baby. I'm right here," I whispered in her ear. I felt her body temperature drop and it scared the hell out of me.
"Someone help her," I screamed hoping to get someone's attention. It worked as a nurse rushed to my side.
"What happened?" she said moving around quickly as she looked for supplies. I explained to her the best I could but I knew something wasn't right. She should have opened her eyes by now. Werewolves heal quickly put she hadn't even moved. She didn't even wince when the knife was removed. I knew she was still breathing. I thought she might've just been knocked out but the stab wound wasn't healing. Something must have been on the blade.
"We're going to have to run some tests to find our more, but it seems like she's been poisoned." I took a few deep breathes to control myself.
"Silver?" I asked through clenched teeth.
"I can't be certain at this point. The doctor will have to examine her but I think so. The silver appears to have been mixed with something else as well." She gave my a sad look and I knew if I stayed a second longer I would loose it.
"Do what you have to." I gave her a look that clearly was my way of saying they had better save her. I couldn't loose Marilyn. Not now, not ever. I went through hell with her and finally we reached a point of understanding. She was my everything and I was going to fight to keep it that way.
I kissed her one last time and promised her I would be back. I'm not even sure if she could hear me. I wanted her to know I wasn't abandoning her and I would be right by her side when she woke up.
I headed back to the safehouse where Rick was. I needed to know what was going on with the woman who tried to kill my mate. More importantly I wanted to know why she tried to kill my mate and what this had to do with her uncle.
When I got there the safehouse was locked again.
"Where's the prisoner and the alpha," I said getting straight to the point.
"In the dungeons but there is a shewolf requesting to see you." I gave him a confused look before agreeing to see this shewolf. Who could she be and what did want with me?
When the doors were opened Destiny ran up to me.
"You wanted to see me?" I said completely thrown off.
"I needed to talk to you. Listen when the crazy woman was down there she said some things that might help you capture Marilyn's uncle." I nodded and told her to continue.
"Apparently she is his true mate but she's jealous of his obsession with Marilyn. She was supposed to run our and try to save you but something brought her to her senses. The woman got extremely angry and started shouting things. Bottom line is as soon as Marilyn escaped he would be there waiting for her," she explained.
I didn't know much about this territory but I did know there was only one way out of the safe house. With any luck he didn't know that the plan went badly and would still be lurking.
"Thanks you may just be right. One question though. Why didn't you tell Rick or one of the alphas any of this?" I asked curiously.
"Because if it were my mate I'd want to know first," she smiled but it was a weak one. I knew she was worried about her mate and I couldn't blame her.
"Don't worry. He's fine," I assured her. I might not like him much, probably never would, but he seemed to be a descent gamma. She gave me a grateful smile. I thanked her again as I ran to the only area you could come to once you exited the safe house.
I was on high alert listening to every sound and taking in every scent. There was a strange foul smell in the air. I knew he had been here. I waited for any sign that he was still around and searched silently praying for a lead. This needed to end now. He was going to pay with his life for what he did to my mate and innocent people.
My prayers were answered when I heard a twig snap. I turned quickly ready for an attack. He stepped from behind some trees. There was no doubt in my mind it was him. I had come face to face with her uncle. The person I was most anxious to meet.
