*****CHAPTER 28

MAE'S POV

I returned back to my room to meet Taylor and Piper, seated on their respective bed and having lunch. Piper threw me a welcoming smile as I walked in and Taylor only had a blank expression on her face.

"Hey." Piper waved excitedly at me and pointed at a bowl of soup on the small table beside her. "I kept your share."

"Thanks, Piper." I forced back a smile, grateful for her thoughtfulness and I strolled towards the table to pick the bowl of soup. I brought myself to sit on my bed as I slowly picked at the food. Even though I was famished, I lacked appetite because of what had happened between the Alpha, his Luna and I a few moments back.

And what Oliver had mentioned about the Alpha's new friend and a bracelet. No matter how hard I tried to push the thoughts out of my mind, it wouldn't budge and I kept finding myself wondering why the story sounded too familiar to me.

"Seems like Zeta Sia has picked interest in you, don't you think?"

Taylor's voice broke the silence and snapped me back to reality. I raised my head to face Taylor who had her gaze suspiciously locked on me. If I couldn't be wrong, I would assume that she had trust issues and was the kind of girl who perceived every other person as an enemy. But then again, maybe it wasn't entirely her fault. Maybe it was because of what had happened to her family that had caused their banishment from their pack. Perhaps they were betrayed or framed by someone they trusted.

"Zeta Sia? Who's that?" I asked, a small frown crossing my face in a puzzle.

"The woman who picked you from the crowd today and asked you to serve the Alpha some tea." Piper explained and I immediately knew who Taylor was talking about.

"She isn't so popular for being nice and welcoming. Everyone thinks she is the most intimidating in the entire pack after the Alpha." Taylor looked back at her food and continued to eat, playing nonchalance again. "I wonder why she was so nice to you earlier today. Maybe she was caught in your beauty too."

I ignored Taylor's assumptions while Piper giggled at what she had said. I hoped this wouldn't be the way she would keep snooping into my business. I wouldn't like to get in a fuss with anyone else.

As soon as I turned my attention back to my food again, the door opened and the Alpha's mother walked in accompanied by a slightly shaky and frightened Miss Karen.

My heart jerked instantly at the sight of the Alpha's mother and I did all I could to ensure I did not choke on my food. The girls quickly jumped off their beds in fear and curtsied before the woman. I mirrored the action of the girls, abandoning my food and bowing before the woman. In my head, I wondered the reason the woman was here even though I knew the answers already. I feared for the worst.

"You." Her voice sounded cold and emotionless and in my panicked state, I lifted my head the same time the girls raised their own heads, fears written all over their faces.

The Alpha's mother stared straight at me, as if searching right into my soul, her sterling grey eyes beautiful, yet frightening.

"Tell me, beautiful one…what is your name?" Her voice sounded petting, yet authoritative. I did not waste a single second to answer her,

"Mae, my Luna."

The Alpha's mother did not say another word. She kept her gaze at me and I looked down in respect.

"Excuse us. All of you." She spoke again and in a minute, the girls scampered out of the room, led away by Miss Karen who gave me one last scared look before leaving with the girls.

Although the room was now empty, save for the Alpha's mother and me, I dared not raise my head to look her in the face. My fear heightened, seeing that I was all alone in a room with a powerful being like her. Most especially knowing the reason she was here.

The Luna paced around the room slowly, her heels echoing against the old wooden floors. I casted a quick glance at her to see if she looked displeased or angry but she didn't have any of those looks on her face. If anything, she looked calm and composed.

In a scary way.

"You know, the moment I stepped into that room and laid eyes on you while the Alpha and his Luna were engaged in a quarrel, I was certain of one thing…" The woman finally opened her mouth to speak, breaking the deafening silence in the room.

"I knew it was all because of you." She said, her footsteps drawing closer to me. When she was standing before me again, she reached for my chin and lifted my face up to look at her. Her piercing gaze bore into my own eyes and I gulped down dry lumps, my breath hitched as I quivered slightly in fear.

"Mesmerizing, yet innocent hazel eyes. Hair dyed the color of a rebel and a rogue. Sun-kissed, tanned face. Sharp small nose. Strong chin and jawline." She analyzed my facial features carefully, a small eerie smile breaking off from her face.

Her eyes moved to my lower body and she added.

"And not to forget…wide child bearing hips too. A perfect combo no man can be able to resist."

She let go of my face again, the cocky smile on her face, unshaky and scary.

"What if I propose something to you? Hmm?"

I blinked and waited for her to continue talking.

"What if I asked you to seduce the Alpha and overthrow his Luna?"

My eyes searched her face in shock at her obnoxious proposal.

Me? Seduce the Alpha and overthrow the Luna? Was this some kind of joke she was trying to play on me?

"I could make you the Luna of Black Wolf pack. I could give you the greatest power you never imagined was possible." She kept her gaze locked into mine, her countenance serious and hard.

"Do you agree?"
