*****CHAPTER 29

MAE'S POV

"I could make you the Luna of the Black Wolf pack. "I could give you the greatest power you never imagined was possible." She kept her gaze locked on mine, her countenance serious and hard.

"Do you agree?"

I shook my head immediately, refusing to fall for her crazy offer. Even though I was a crazy ambitious freak, I wasn't power thirsty. All I ever wanted was for my family to be better and never have to suffer financially, not to overthrow some Luna and gain power over a great pack.

"No. I…  I can't do that. "I don't want that kind of power."

The Alpha's mother stared at me with a blank expression for a while, and a few seconds later, a small laugh escaped from her lips.

"I see that you are one smart girl." "Other girls like you would fall for my test."

My eyes shot open slightly. Wait, it was a test? She had tested me with that crazy offer.

Her laughter faded again, and she had her emotionless countenance on again. "Now, tell me, if you are not interested in gaining power and wealth, why did you try to seduce my son with those attractive attributes of yours?"

I kept silent this time, debating in my head if I was supposed to answer her question or not.

"Answer me."  She orders, her tone low yet deadly and venomous—a tone that warned me of a foreboding doom.

"No, my Luna." I shook my head immediately.

"Good.  "Now, tell me why I should sit back and watch a common thief and a petty servant try to charm my son, the Alpha and Lycan king, with her good looks."

Again, I shook my head and answered.

"Forgive me, my Luna. It was all a misunderstanding. "I never tried to seduce him even once."

"Are you saying I am lying, then?" She hissed at me, and I shook my head for the third time, jumping in to correct myself lest she misunderstand my words.

"N–no.  I would never dare. I was only implying that it was never my intention to seduce the Alpha.

A hard slap suddenly landed right across my face, and my hair fell over my face, blinding my vision with the stinging pain of the slap. As if that was not enough to cause me pain, she wrapped her fingers around my neck, squeezing it lightly in a way that was not to choke me to my death but enough to threaten me that she had the power to end my life if she liked.

"Now, listen to me, and listen attentively, girl." Her nose flared slightly as she warned me. "I will never allow a servant to come into my castle and break a haven I have spent my entire life trying to build." Let this be the first and last time I warn you to steer clear of my son. If I ever catch you around him again, I will kill you and throw your body through the city gates. "Do we understand each other?"

I nodded, fighting back the tears that welled up in my eyes from spilling down my face.

"Good."  She smiled a sinister smile again and finally let go of me. Turning her back against me, she walked away and out of the door in an elegant and gorgeous manner, as if she had not just mistreated me a second ago.

It was at this moment that I realized just how much I had played with fire and that if I tried to move an inch again, I could get burnt. Badly burnt.

……….

PEARL'S POV

I was running late for school as usual, and as I rushed into the school hallway clutching my books in my hand, I prayed to the gods underneath my breath, asking them to help me so that our calculus teacher wouldn't be in class already, even though I knew the odds were low in favor of me.

As I ran down the hallway, pushing my way past a few students, my feet collided with something, and I tripped, losing my balance and falling face-first against the floor. My books scattered all over the floor, and a few landed on my head.

I cursed at myself for being awkward while a couple of students laughed at me. I knew the owners of that laughter too well. They were most definitely the same ones who had set their foot and caused me to fall.

"How clumsy!" Lia, the meanest girl in our school, and the leader of her group laughed the hardest. "Come on, pretty one." "You can do better."

I ignored her mean comment, packing my books into my arm again before pulling myself up from the ground again.

"Oh, look, everyone. "Pearl's got a new pair of shoes." She pointed at my feet, and they all laughed again.

Rolling my eyes at their lame jokes, I ignored them and was about to walk away when Lia's voice came again.

"Tell us, Pearl." Did your thief of a sister steal those for you? They look quite on the expensive side. "Your poor, pathetic family can barely afford three square meals, not to mention affording the shoes you have on now."

I turned to face her again, my palms balled in tight fists. I never understood why Lia derived joy in saying hateful words at me.

"Don't you ever say those words about my sister." Ever again." I warned her, but she only laughed at my warnings.

"Why should I?" If I don't stop saying that, what are you going to do? "Remember my mother is the principal of this school." She folded her arms arrogantly across her bosom. "Not like your pathetic family, who only managed to be blessed with good looks and no brains at all."

I lifted the corner of my lip in a mischievous, cocky smile.

"You mean you're finally admitting you are jealous of my poor family because even though yours is rich, they have faces like dried rat poops?"

I heard a few students gasp and snicker at my comeback, and Lia's face contorted in rage.

"At least, we are better than a family of an abusive father, a sick disgusting mother, a whore sister, another thieving sister, and lastly, a lame dumb bitch like you."

And that was the moment I lost it. With speed as fast as lightning, I rushed to her and landed my weight over her, pinning her to the ground and landing several punches on her face.

Only I get to call my family those names. No one else.
