*****CHAPTER 32

PEARL'S POV

I knew the looks on people's faces as they saw me arrive at the gates of the castle in a carriage. Carriages were only used by the low class. High-class wolves used cars and limousines. After I paid the carriage man some bronze coins and he drove away again, I tried my best to compose myself and ignore the piercing gazes of the gossips who wouldn't take their eyes off me. But I couldn't move my feet properly as I suddenly felt more than conscious of my poorly dressed clothes and the sack bag that contained my basic belongings.

The gods! There was no way I could stand having these eyes on me.

Without thinking twice, I turned around on my heels and quickened my pace, eyes downcast and legs moving away from the castle again. There was no way I could stay in the same place with people whose stares would almost grope me. As I walked away from the castle, I searched through my head, trying to come up with an excuse to tell Mae about why I couldn't make it to the castle like we had planned.

The sharp screech of the tires of a car caused my heart to almost jump out of my mouth, and I raised my head sharply to see a car suddenly halted, barely an inch away from my legs.

My mouth fell open slightly at the realization that I had almost been hit by a car. The driver immediately opened the car door and rushed to inspect me. He had a horrified look on his face, which fell with relief when he saw that I was okay.

"Are you crazy?" "Why weren't you watching where you were headed?" The driver's face was contorted with anger now, and I raised my eyes to stare at him. Even though he looked tough and more like a bodyguard than a driver, I wasn't fazed or scared of him.

I couldn't believe the asshole had the balls to yell at me when he was clearly the one who had almost killed me with his car.

"Come on in, Riz." "I've warned you to stop letting peasants get to you." Another man's voice came from inside the car.

Hold on.  Did this person just call me a peasant?

Even though the man's voice bore authority and sounded like the driver's boss, I neither cared nor feared whatever position he held in the pack. I had had enough of people trampling all over me just because they were better than me.

The driver gave me one last look of hatred before he turned his back and headed back to the car. But my next words made him freeze to his feet again.

"You fucking asshole." I cursed loudly at the direction of the car, specifically at the man inside the vehicle.

I watched as the driver's eyes grew wild in complete shock. It was as though I had committed the most outrageous sin in the world. However, I was surprised that this time he didn't have that angry look on his face. Instead, he had a terrified look on his face now.

"Did you just…" The driver seemed to doubt that he had heard me correctly.

"Yes. You heard me right. I jumped in immediately, without waiting for him to complete his sentence. Again, I looked in the direction of the car window, directing my words at the man inside the car. "I called your boss right there a fucking asshole." "An ugly, stupid piece of sh*t."

Everything went completely silent for a moment, and the door to the passenger seat was gently pushed open. A well-built masculine frame stepped out of the car, and as his huge, athletic body turned towards me, my whole body instantly switched off. He took long, cautious strides towards me until he was standing directly in front of me; his sterling grey eyes locked onto mine. His features were sharp and perfectly accentuated, and the strong urge to trail my fingers across all the beautiful lines of his face and the hardness of his body crossed my mind, but I gulped dry lumps down my throat in a bid to stop myself from doing anything stupid this instant.

The gods! He was the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on.

"You were saying…?" His voice came, careful and dominating. His well pronounced accent was enough proof that he was not just any high class wolf but a royal one too.

I opened my mouth to reply to him, but not a single word came out. My tongue had rooted to my mouth, and my brain couldn't think of anything else at this moment, aside from the fact that I was standing so close before a man who was probably the most handsome male on the surface of the planet.

"Please, pardon her, my Lord." "She is just a silly, naive peasant."

"No, I am not." I cut the driver off immediately as he tried to save me from this mystery of a man. I felt my fake confidence embrace my heart again. There was no way I would allow a man like this to think so low of me in that way. I would prove to them that I was beautiful as well.

"I meant every single word I said, Mr. Man." I raised a brow at the hottie, and he only stared at me with a blank expression, making it hard for me to figure out what it was that he was probably thinking of now.

Maybe he was planning to kill me already?

"I don't care if you are the Lord of some underworld. But I am not going to let you trample on my rights and try to harass me too. "You just messed with the wrong girl!" I yelled into his face and immediately turned my back, walking away from them and back to the castle again.

As I headed back to the castle, my face twisted, and I cringed at whatever I had said just a moment ago. I was sure he would think me crazy and stupid.

The gods!  I wish the ground would open and swallow me up right now.
