Chapter 94) Wedding Day

At dawn ,
Day of wedding Asha ji came and Put Sakha Pola in Porishma's hands .
"Asha ji ?" ,, Porishma asked and she replied ... ,, Yes Baccha
"But it's three at night" ,, Porishma asked and yawned loudly
"I know but it's Dhodi Mongol ritual time" ,, Asha ji said and showed her Golden Sakha - Pola bangles
Porishma said, "Oh I forgot about it"
"Come and sit . Actually I don't know much about bengali wedding customs baccha but whatever knowledge I have I'm trying to do for you" ,, Asha ji said and run her fingers in her hair
Porishma smile and sat on her bed . Asha ji puts Sakha Pola in her hands .
"It's beautiful Asha ji . When did you buy this and it's so expensive Asha ji . It's not a plain Sakha Pola . It's Golden carved Sakha Pola" ,, Porishma was stunned by her sweet gestures
"Now stop your rambling .. Did you forgot that it is worn by the bride in the wee hours of marriage day . Sakha and Pola are gifted to the bride by her mother so I bought it for you" ,, Asha ji said and kissed her forehead
"Thank you Asha ji" ,, Porishma said and hug her
(Shakha is a white bangle made of conch shells and Pola is a red Coral bangle and has to wear a pair of each in both hands . It's a symbol of a married woman.
Remember it's a Bengali Hindu custom)
"Sleep because tomorrow you'll not get any time for rest . Take care. By the way You want any snacks ... ,, Asha ji asked
"No ! I'm sleepy" ,, Porishma replied
and slept quickly
*The Wedding Day* :-
Asha ji was making her ready in the traditional Indian Bengali bride.
Davis's mother Rosaline came and took a look at Porishma and a loud gasped came from her mouth, "She is looking like an Indian Goddess"
Rosaline said and smiled brightly.
Asha ji nodded in agreement, "You're right Samdhan Ji ( in law ). Asha ji's eyes were shining while looking at her.
Asha ji bent down and applied alta ( red liquid color ) on Porishma's feet ...
"A wedding is a Ceremony where two or more people are united in marriage. Marriage refers to the relationship, the long term sharing of two lives" ,, Asha ji said and trying hard to not to shed tears
Davis's mother hugged Asha ji and looked at Porishma and said, "Marriage marks the beginning of the family. It's a life long commitment that widens your horizons and the purpose of existence on this Earth . It's not just a physical Union"
Porishma heard them as her heart was missing her parents very badly at this moment.
Both Asha ji and Rosaline helped her and took her to the Mandap (a sacred tent) where Groom was desperately waiting for his bride .
Neil and Arjun held Porishma's hands and took her infront of the Groom .
Davis was staring at her but didn't get a glimpse of her face because it was hide behind the beetel leaf .
"Not again" ,, Davis scoffed and all of them laughed at his hurriedness.
Porishma giggled and mades her heart to calmned down a little bit.
Soon they exchanged Garland and Priest told them to sat at their respective seats.
Priest started Chanting the mantras. (holy words)
Pashika came and did the ritual of Gathbandhan by tying a knot between the Porishma's stole and the Davis's scarf .
(Gathbandhan is a ritual did by groom's sister or sister in law , literally meaning pact or coalition , in which the bride and Groom's garments are tied together as they circles around the holy fire )
Priest asked for the Kanyadaan and Porishma burst into tears. Her sobbed was making Davis to scoope her in his arms and locked her in a room away from the every pain .
"Sunshine" ... ,, Davis said and held her hands .
"Maa ! Baba" ,, Porishma's mouth was uttering these words only . She was missing her parents in every ritual but the Kanyadaan was something that holds Father and daughter in a strong bond together .
Arjun and Neil shared a look and Arjun moved to the Mandap . Neil did the Kanyadaan for Pashika and it was Arjun chance to do
Arjun stood behind the Bride and the Groom and Priest was spelling holy chants . Arjun took Porishma right hand and places it on the Davis's right hand , requesting him to accept his sister as his equal partner for eternity .
(Kanyadaan meaning giving away the bride to the Groom)
Arjun came back after performing the ritual and sat beside his Jaan who was smiling widely at him.
"Why are you smiling this much huh?",, Arjun asked Pashika
"You know what it's considered as a holy ritual which will wash all the sins of anyone who performs it" ,, Pashika said to Arjun
"Oh then I'm lucky to do it because we have five boys", Arjun said and laughed and they looked around their newly born Quadruplets who was sleeping peacefully in their cribs .
Priest asked Davis to put the sindoor (vermilion) in the partition of her hair .
Porishma tears were continuously flowing through her eyes . Her hiccups were pinching Davis's heart.
"Sunshine ! Don't you want to marry ?" ,, He asked and Porishma glared at him
"I want but I can't control my emotions so tell me what I should do ?", Porishma said while hiccuping.
"Oh ! I thought it was also a ritual for girls to cry so much that their tears washed away the make up from the face",, Davis teased her and she hit him in return
Everyone were watching the duo in amusement . They shook their head at their banter .
"It's time for Sindoor Daan. So, put this red vermillion on her hair partition" ,, priest told Davis and he took the box of Sindoor
Davis put the whole box of red Sindoor in her hair partition due to some sindoor to fell on her nose too , making her to look cute with red nose .
A loud sob came out again from her mouth and Davis sighed loudly.
Asha ji came and held her crying body and wiped her tears, "Porishma! Stop crying okay"
"I'm trying hard Asha ji" ,, Porishma replied
The priest asked Davis to tie the Mangalsutra (Golden nuptial chain/ a necklace worn by a Hindu woman to signify that she is married) around her neck .
Davis did like he was told . Davis tied the auspicious thread around the Porishma's neck . It was symbolised that they would be mates for life until death separated them .
Porishma was in awe when she saw ManglaSutra . It was beautiful and simple but studded with diamonds.
(There is no custom of ManglaSutra in Bengali but Davis wanted to tie around her neck when he saw Arjun did to Pashika at their wedding day . So it was Davis's dream to tie Mangalsutra around his Sunshine's neck )
Davis helped Porishma to stood up for the seven vows . He hold her hands in his firmly .
While taking saat pheras (Seven Circumambulations) around the sacred fire . The couple seeks the blessings of God and Fire to be together for the next seventh birth by taking seven circumambulations and seven vows.
{Saat Phere (Seven Circumambulations) is one of the most important features of the Hindu Indian Wedding , involving seven round a sacred fire lit up the purpose of the bond . The bride and the groom circumambulate a consecrated fire seven times , reciting specific vows with each circuit (Parikarma) }.
Porishma was following Davis steps and reciting the priest words.
•First Round - They Prays to God for nourishing and pure food .
•Second Round - The couple ask for healthy and prosperous life.
•Thirds Round - They ask God for the strength so they can share happiness and Pain together
•Fourth Round - In the fourth Round The bride and the Groom ask for love , respect and trust for each other
After fourth round , Porishma came forwarded and Davis started following her leading path ....
•Fifth Round - The Bride and the Groom pray for noble Children
•Sixth Round of holy fire - The couple ask for peaceful long life with each other.
•Seventh and last round - The couple process to the God for loyalty , understanding , companionship . Last Round is a commitment for life time friendship and Unity ....
"No! You're Husband and wife for your Seven Life" ,, Priest announced and all of them showered yellow rice and flowers on the newly married couples.
"Excuse me ! I want her after my seven lives too so can I take extra rounds around the fire" ,, Davis asked the priest and the priest was controlling his laugh.
But lastly, the priest smiled as he put his hands on Davis's shoulder and said,"You're Married for Eternity and if your love is pure and loyal then she will be only yours even after the seven lifes"
