Chapter Twenty

Chevelle

I wake to a note on the pillow where River slept letting me know that he went to the hospital before his shift at the bank and that he would see me tonight.

Grabbing my cell off the nightstand, I find that I have a few messages from Caprice.

**Caprice: I just wanted to say that I’m sorry and that I love you.**
**Caprice: Do you think we can hang out again sometime soon? It doesn’t have to be with everyone else. I just want some sister time.**

I look at the time and see that she left the last message about half an hour ago and wonder if I can catch her before she leaves for class.

**Me: Don’t worry about it, you don’t have anything to be sorry for.**
**Me: And I would love to hang out again, just the two of us.**
**Caprice: Yay!**
**Me: Let me know when…**
**Caprice: are you available today? School is out and I’ve got nothing to do.**

This may work out perfectly since River is going to be tied up all day. I wonder if she would be willing to do something for me that would have to stay just between us.

**Me: I’d love to, but I don’t have a ride today. River’s running some errands before work.**
**Caprice: I can come get you. Want to hang out in the city or come back here?**
**Me: Umm…would it be too much to go back there?**
**Me: Actually, I gotta ask a favor that would have to stay just between us though…**
**Caprice: Oohh….sounds ominous, what is it?**
**Me: I need to see Drake…**
**Caprice: WHAT!!**
**Caprice: SERIOUSLY?!?!**
**Caprice: After what happened, I didn’t figure you would want anything to do with him, not that I could blame you.**
**Me: I don’t want to see him so much as I need to see him.**
**Me: I think he can give me some answers that I need about my past. Answers that no one else may be able to help with.**
**Caprice: Okay, I can be there in about an hour. Pack a bag just in case we don’t make it back there tonight.**
**Me: Sounds good. Be careful.**
**Caprice: Always. Love you.**
**Me: You too.**

I get my stuff packed and go into the bathroom to get ready when my cell goes off with a text message.

**Caprice: I’m here. Are you ready or should I come in**?
**Me: I’ll be right out, just finishing up. Give me 2 minutes.**

I quickly brush my teeth, grab my stuff, and head out the door. Caprice is waiting for me in front of her car when I walk out, so I walk up to her and wrap my arms around her middle, giving her a hug.

“Hey, Sis.” She murmurs as she pulls away. “You okay?” she asks, eyeing me warily.

“I’m good. Just want to get this over with and hope that I can get some much-needed answers.” I climb in the front seat of her two-door car, throwing my bag in the backseat.

“I still can’t believe that you want to see Drake but I’m really glad that it’s an excuse for us to hang out.” Caprice puts the car in reverse and pulls out of the parking space.

“I know. River would kill me if he knew that I was going to see Drake without him, or that I’m going to see him period, but I *have* to do this. You understand, right?” I ask, feeling a little insecure about my rash decision to go see Drake.

“Wait! You’re telling me that River doesn’t know?” Caprice screeches as she slams on her breaks. “Call him and tell him right now! I’m not going to have him hating me because I did something wrong.”

“I was going to text him and let him know. But fine, I’ll call him instead.” I pull out my phone and press his contact name in my phone.

He answers on the second ring, concern filling his voice. “Chevy? Is everything okay?”

“Hey, yeah, everything’s fine. I just wanted to let you know that Caprice came down to get me and take me to see Drake…I need answers…” Looking over at Caprice, I begin biting my lip as I await River’s response. After several silent seconds I call out his name. “River?”

“God damnit, have you lost your mind?” He curses through the phone. I knew he would be mad, which is why I didn’t want to say anything to him until after I had already gone and spoke with Drake. “I’m going with you!”

“What? No, you can’t!” I say, panicked because I’m afraid that Drake won’t speak to me if River is there.

“I’ll call out of work. Chevy, I can’t let you see him if I’m not there with you. If I don’t go, you don’t go!” he grounds out, clearly mad.

“I don’t need a babysitter, River!” I huff, getting frustrated that he’s treating me like a child. I get it, I do, but he doesn’t. “I have to do this! I need answers and he’s the only one who can give them to me.”

“Okay, but I’m still going. Where are you?” I hear him talking to someone in the background as he explains that he has to leave.

“We’re in the apartment parking lot. Caprice wouldn’t leave until I called you.” I glare at Caprice, but she just shrugs and goes back to scrolling through her phone.

“I’ll be there in ten. Don’t leave!” he says as he hangs up the phone.

“Okay, dad!” I mouth as I drop the phone into my lap. “He says to wait for him to get here, that I’m not going without him. He’ll be here in ten minutes.” Letting out a sigh I mutter, “So much for having a girls’ day.”

“It wasn’t really going to be much of a girls’ day since you were going to be seeing Drake. But, as much as you don’t want to hear it, River's right. You’re going to need him there. What if the same thing happens again that happened before?” I know that she’s right but that doesn’t mean that I like hearing it.

“I know, you’re right.” I grumble as I begin thinking about what all I want to ask Drake when I see him.

It doesn’t take long before River’s rusty old jalopy comes barreling into the complex. He stops just short of Caprice’s car, jumps out, and runs over to the passenger side door, yanking it open. He catches me by surprise when he pulls me from the seat, wrapping his strong arms around me as he lowers his forehead to mine.

“Don’t you ever think that I’m going to let you face that guy without me there again.” His whispered words rush over me, enveloping me, as I stare into his stormy eyes. “I’m here for you, Chevy, always.” His lips cover mine, tongue begging for entry. I open for him and he pulls my body tighter against his, deepening the kiss. I can feel him hardening against my abdomen and moisture begins to pool between my own thighs.

“I’m sorry…” I murmur, breaking the kiss before we get ourselves too worked up, but River quickly pulls me back in, obviously not ready to be done yet. His hands move from my waist to my butt, pulling me even closer, which causes our lower halves to become flush with one another. The contact sends my pulse racing as I grind against him, my nails digging into his skin as I squeeze his biceps. “River…” I manage to utter, but I quickly forget what I was about to say as he spins me around, my back quickly making contact with the side of his truck as his hips begin thrusting against me. Immediately, I ache for more.

The honking of a horn breaks the moment, and we both look over at Caprice as we try to catch our breaths. “I think Chevy should ride with me. Otherwise, you two may end up making a pit stop on the side of the road and end up not making it there...” Caprice says, leaning against the top of her car, a knowing grin spread across her face. I can feel the flush of embarrassment as it makes its way up my neck and face, coloring my skin a rosy hue, no doubt.

River, still holding me against his body, pulls me tightly against him again. “I don’t want to let you out of my sight.” He growls as he gently moves a stray hair that managed to get caught between my lips. “Maybe that makes me a selfish asshole, but I really can’t find it in me to care.”

I break away from his dark gaze, looking over to Caprice as she waits, her driver side door open, leaning against the roof of the car watching the two of us. “Do you want to hop in the backseat of her car with me? She did drive all this way to pick me up. I don’t want her to have to drive back all alone, having made the trip here for nothing.” I ask, trying not to moan out loud as I turn my attention back to River, who still has my body pinned between his and the truck, rocking his lower body against mine and causing a delicious inferno to build inside of me.

He continues his pace, growling as he drops his forehead to mine again. “I want you to know that it absolutely kills me to say this, but you had probably better go with her, and I should take my truck.” He grabs my hand and lowers it to the rock-hard bulge between us, squeezing and pumping his shaft in time with his thrusts. “If we were in her backseat or in my truck together, I don’t know that I would be able to control myself.” He growls again and I find that I like this side of him, and that it really turns me on.

I have no idea what has caused River to become so brazen all the sudden, but I can honestly say that I don’t dislike it. He comes in, claiming my lips in one last bruising kiss before peeling himself away from me but still holding onto my hips with both hands. “You better get your sweet little ass in her car before I change my mind and say fuck going to see that guy.” He growls, slowly releasing me and moving to the side, still facing away from Caprice, as his hardened cock strains against the zipper of his pants, making it obvious what he would much rather do instead. “I’ll be right behind you. It’ll give me a chance to cool down a bit.” He says with a smirk, adjusting himself to try to make his hard on not so obvious.
