Chapter 11: You're an Alpha?

The following day, I stood in the living room near the couch. We were off from training from the day which made me grateful. I was already healed from my bruises from the day before because of the healing abilities I got as a wolf.

I had been debating for the last hour if I wanted to call Ash. He’d been on my mind since last night. This had been the longest we’d gone without talking.

I wasn’t sure if he had messaged me or not. I’d been too busy with training to even look at my phone. It also didn’t help he didn’t pick up the other day.

What if he was mad at me for going on the trip with Zander? I knew he disliked Zander and had a good reason to be jealous. I mean, Zander was a very good-looking guy. I needed to shove that thought to the back of my mind.

I glanced at my engagement ring and missed Ash.

I picked up my phone and decided to call him without a doubt. He needed to hear from me. I’m sure he worried about how I was doing with the Full Moon pack. My hurt ached for him.

As I was about to call him, a girl around my age walked up to me. I hadn’t heard anyone else come in the room. I kind of was jealous of her stealth.

She was pretty and had cherry red hair and eyes that were blue-green. Her outfit seemed to hug her body and showed off her curves. She wore tight jeans and a leather top which showed off her stomach. Her heels were leather too.

It was the first time I had seen this girl around. I wondered who she was. But it wouldn’t hurt to make a good impression. Maybe she was important to the Full Moon pack.

I set my phone down on a nearby table and tried to be friendly. “Hey I’m Cleo.”

The girl kept a serious face and said in a bored tone, “I’m Emerald Adair.” She smiled in a mocking way and asked, “Aren’t you a future Alpha?”

Her tone made me not want to answer. She gave off a bad vibe to me. Why did I feel like something was going to happen? My stomach twisted up.

I had heard gossip that she was a high-ranking Beta. She gave an accessing glance at me and frowned.

How could she judge me when we first met? My gut told me she had decided she hated me on sight. I hadn’t even done anything to this girl.

Emerald’s eyes landed on my phone. She had this devilish look on her face. Before I could stop her, she snatched my phone and put it in her pocket.

I went over to her, which caused her to grin in a nasty way.

“If you want this back, you’ll have to fight for it.” Emerald stepped right up to my face and added, “I’m one of the best fighters, so I understand if you want to decline.”

I glared at her and said, “You’re on. Let’s go right now.”

“Be prepared to lose.”

“I don’t plan on losing to the likes of you.”

We walked to the training room in silence. I was prepared to knock her down and get my phone back. I couldn’t believe she had taken my phone away. Who did she think she was?

My hands turned into claws, and I calmed down a little to make them go back to normal. I knew that I could win if I tried really hard. Maybe thinking of how badly I wanted to win would help.

Emerald set my phone on a table in the back of the training room and came over to me. Her face had determination on it. I resisted growling at her. My hands clenched into fists just looking at her.

She kicked and swung near my head, but I managed to duck down in time. I tried to punch her in the stomach, but she moved faster than me and jumped out of the way.

Minutes into the fight she knocked me down and was trying to punch me in the face. I covered my face and removed her from straddling on top of me.

Emerald’s face turned into a sneer and she said, “You should just give up now. I will be the hardest opponent you’ve ever fought.”

“It seems you’re scared I could win.”

“Shut up.”

We stood up and she grabbed me by the arm and threw me against the mat. She put all of her weight on me and held me there. I struggled to get free from her grasp.

She asked, “Will you give up now?”

I yelled back, “Never.”

I kept struggling against her grasp on me and somehow got free. Then I straddled her and tried to punch her in the mouth. She stopped my fist and pushed me off of her.

We started rolling around on the floor for a while and kept throwing punches at each other. I dodged a few blows but felt others on my mouth and jaw. I’d have bruises again later but didn’t care.

When she grabbed a wooden staff, I ran off to get my own and barely missed her tripping me on the ground. Emerald was out to get me.

I grabbed the wooden staff and blocked a few of her blows but one struck my side. I fell and she looked down at me. My wooden staff was out of reach, but I tried to grab for it anyway. I crawled towards it, but Emerald’s foot stepped on my hand. I yelled out in pain.

I made a last attempt to retrieve my staff and got it to sweep Emerald’s legs from underneath her. She fell down backward and swore.

I took the opportunity to get up and grabbed my staff and lowered it near her face. She gave me the most hateful stare I’d ever seen. I kept the staff held at her face and put my foot on her stomach holding her in place.

Suddenly, she growled at me and reached out for my staff and knocked it from my hand. It went skidding by on the floor and was too far to grab.

Next thing I knew, she pushed me down. Somehow, she turned the tables on me when my guard was down. I cursed silently.

I fell to the ground and was picked up by her. She held my shirt with one hand and moved her other fist back to punch me in the face.
