Chapter 40: Ultimate Betrayal

After we started walking for a while, I shifted and gripped my bag with my sharp canines. Zander followed my lead and shifted quickly. We started to run at a very fast speed. Zander and I had to return to the pack before the next nightfall.

It may have been a couple miles when I caught a familiar scent. It was the old scent of my dad through the thicket of trees. We were finally getting close to our pack’s territory. I felt a major sense of relief at being home again.
I couldn’t believe I was back after all this time away. I wondered if anything had changed during my absence.

I shifted and didn’t bother leaving Zander’s side. We had already seen each other naked, and I didn’t feel the need to be modest anymore. Zander shifted after me and moved next to me while I changed.

His eyes fell on my lacy red bra and underwear before going to my eyes. “You make it so hard for me to let you be with someone else.” Zander moved next to me and said, “You’re so sexy that I almost can’t control myself around you.”

I shook my head and said, “We don’t have time for you to be flirty. Get changed already!”

Zander teased, “So, you aren’t enjoying this view again?”

I turned away from him and put the rest of my clothes on. He wasn’t going to get an answer from me. It was too hard to not tell him the truth. Zander was a really great view. I refocused and scanned the area for a place to sneak in.

We didn’t have guards outside our headquarters, but I had to figure out how to sneak in. I never had to sneak into my own pack before. It felt weird and exciting at the same time. My adrenaline rushed through my veins.

Zander and I snuck around the back of the cabin. I opened the door and tiptoed inside. Who knew if anyone was
around the area?

We kept scanning the area and didn’t see anyone roaming around the living room. Ash was my priority, so I decided to see him first. I just hoped he was actually back at my pack and not at his. Bad timing was not what I wanted.

I was about to walk off when Zander gently grabbed my arm. I gave him a “are you serious” look and was tempted to stomp on his foot.

What did he want from me? We could talk later. I had to figure out why Ash was staying and didn’t want to wait anymore. Zander was in my way which made me annoyed.

Zander said, “Where are you going?”

I angrily said, “To see Ash. I’ve got to talk to him.”

He looked at me and asked, “I thought we were just hiding out from Maurice for a while?”

I gave an annoyed sigh and said, “No that’s not the only reason.” I added, “We need to have a talk Zander.”

Zander raised an eyebrow and said, “What kind of talk?”

“I can’t let things go on between us. I’ve got to do the honorable thing.” I took a deep breath and said, “I was engaged to Ash first and can’t go back on my word. It wouldn’t be right. Do you understand?”

Zander got a sad look on his face. “Yes, I understand. You’ve got to keep your word. I’ll even leave the pack if it makes it easier.”

“No, you can’t leave the pack! Please stay. You said you’d stay by my side and serve me
faithfully as a Beta, remember?”

He gave a weak smile and said, “Okay. I’ll stick to my word and keep being around to tease you.”

I was relieved we finally had that kind of talk. It had to be done before Zander tried to make another move on me. We needed to push what had happened in the cabin away and move on. It was the best choice to do.

I started to walk towards the bedrooms, but Zander was still by my side. I turned around and put a hand on his chest. “You can’t come with me. I’ve got to talk to Ash alone.”

Zander nodded his head in acceptance and said, “I’ll just hide out in your room. Where is it?”

I pointed down the hall and said, “It’s the first door, and my name is on it.”

He kissed me on the cheek briefly before walking ahead of me. My knees felt wobbly at his quick kiss. Why did he do that? That was not a Beta thing.

I bet Zander did it on purpose to distract me. He didn’t want me talking to Ash, and I felt it in my soul. He was madly jealous I wanted to talk with Ash.

I shook my head and cleared thoughts of Zander away. He couldn’t be in my mind when I wanted to talk to my fiancé.

When I walked past Candice’s room, I heard loud moans coming from it. The door was surprisingly open. I don’t know why but I wanted to see who she was with. Candice didn’t have a boyfriend before I left for my training.

I didn’t care for my sister much, but she was still my younger twin sister after all. I had to check who she was with, even though it was invading her privacy.

It was her fault for leaving the door wide open. Candice must not have cared who could’ve seen her doing God knows what. I thought that was a bad move. I slowly made my way towards her door.

I stepped inside Candice’s room and saw Ash lying next to my sister who was topless. The sheets had fallen down to reveal a little bit of her bare chest. Ash’s chest was also bare, and a condom wrapper lay on the floor near Candice’s nightstand. I hoped this was all a horrible nightmare.

I gasped loudly which made them turn their heads towards me. Their faces went into pure horror and shock.
Candice tried to cover herself up while Ash continued to stare at me, as if I was a ghost. He closed his eyes and opened them a few times. I bet he wanted me to disappear, so he could continue banging my sister.

Ash almost looked like he was going to say something but closed his mouth. Candice kept her eyes locked on mine and had no remorse shown. I always knew something was wrong about Candice, and here was the proof.

I walked over to the bed and needed to confront them for their betrayal.
