Chapter 45: Betrayed Again!
I tended to Zander’s wounds over the next few days, and he got better. My presence helped him heal even faster than usual, despite the fractured ribs he had. I still can’t believe that Ash would attack him so underhandedly. Meanwhile, I was still trying to forget about his betrayal.
Being back home at my pack helped me feel better. I needed to get my mind off of Ash and what he did to me. Candice was someone I needed to avoid as well. No way was I seeing my traitorous sister anytime soon. She made me feel disgusted when I looked at her.
So far when I had passed by Candice, I avoided eye contact and wouldn’t talk to her. She hadn’t tried to talk to me either. I just hoped our parents hadn’t noticed our behavior. They knew we didn’t get along the best, but at least we tolerated each other.
A moment later, I texted Megan if she wanted to hang out and do something. It was the early afternoon, and I was taking a break from any Alpha training. It seemed time that I finally got some moments of relaxation after all the craziness of the past few days.
She answered me back that she’d love to hang out, so we met up in the living room. Megan wore a black leather jacket with a white V-neck and black ripped jeans. She topped the outfit off with some badass combat boots.
I always admired her fashion style, because she always pulled off any outfit. Her blonde hair was in waves and got cut from the last time I had seen her. It felt like ages since I sparred with her and before I had grown to love Zander.
Megan pulled me into a hug and asked, “How have you been?”
“I’ve been good. What about you? I feel like we haven’t talked in forever.”
“I know, it’s been too long.” Megan smirked and asked, “So, how has been being alone with your mate been like?”
Why did she have to ask me about Zander? Somehow, he was brought up even without physically being around. I couldn’t escape him it seemed.
I tried to look away and said, “Oh, it’s been good. He’s not as bad as I once thought.”
“Did you get to find out what his lips felt like?”
Megan gave me a “tell me more” look. I wasn’t going to keep talking about Zander. The more I talked about him would bring trouble. We had never stated what we were, and I had rejected his proposal. It was so conflicting. I knew I loved him no matter what I told myself.
She decided to give up and plopped down on the couch and turned on the tv. It had been so long since I had downtime. I gave a sigh of relief and sat down next to Megan.
I had almost forgotten what it was like to just watch tv and not do any moving around. It was nice to be lazy and a couch potato for once. I thought I deserved it after all of the craziness of my life.
My dad entered the room shortly after we had been watching reality tv. I sat up straighter and looked at him with a curiosity in my eyes.
“You didn’t tell me you’d be coming home. Is your training all done?”
“Sorry it was a last-minute decision. Yeah I’m all done. The training went well. I’m stronger than I ever was.”
My dad beamed at me and said, “I’m glad you’re back again. We’ll have to throw a feast for your return.”
“That’s not necessary. Thanks though.”
“I insist. I think you deserve a reward for all of your hard training you’ve done. You are my future successor for Alpha.”
His words sent a warmth to me. He was acknowledging all my hard work and seemed proud of me without saying it. This was always a nice feeling to be told this from him.
My dad walked off and headed for the kitchen staff’s room. I checked the time on my phone, and it was already three in the afternoon. Wow, time was going by so fast on my day off.
I looked over at Megan and heard footsteps approaching. Zander walked in with bedhead and was in his pajamas. Had he been sleeping all afternoon until now?
“Well, look who finally got up. I haven’t seen you around until now,” I teased.
“Yeah I may have overslept. But Ash wore me out more than I thought. I'm finally all healed.”
I suddenly remembered Megan was there and introduced them. “Zander, this is my friend Megan.”
Megan said “Oh, this is the infamous Zander I’ve heard about. Nice to meet you officially."
Zander told her, “Nice to meet you too. Oh, and I’m not that infamous. The rumors have been greatly exaggerated.”
He sat down and joined us. Megan changed the channel to some action movie.
Megan left after another half hour, and my eyes slowly got heavy. I rested my head on Zander’s shoulder and told myself it’d be for just a few minutes.
An hour later, I woke to the sounds of warriors charging into our cabin. What the hell was going on? I looked around, but I couldn’t see Zander.
When I got to the dining room, I noticed something very wrong. The guards looked unconscious, but were breathing regularly. They were sleeping. Someone must have slipped them sedatives.
Who had done this? This was a carefully planned out action to have done. Why would someone want to harm my pack?
I had to find who had done this and get my revenge on them. I wouldn’t let the culprit get away with what they had done. They would pay dearly.
Suddenly, Ash stepped out of the corner and grinned at me. He glanced at the guards satisfactorily and back at me.
I held my breath waiting for him to explain. My stomach felt nauseous as I wondered if my thoughts were right. Ash wasn’t behind this, was he? I hoped he wouldn’t do that.
“This is all going according to plan. I knew your pack was too easy to deceive,” Ash told me with a sneer.
I realized with horror what Ash had done. We were under attack.
