Chapter 46: Battle
Ash sprinted off before I could even go after him. Was he scared of me or something?
I chased after him but got stopped by a sudden warrior. The warrior was a girl a little older than me. She had a nasty scar across her cheek.
The girl tried to knock me down with her wooden staff. I narrowly avoided being smacked by her staff and rushed away from her. She trailed after me and attempted to whack me with the staff again.
I grabbed the staff out of her hands and swept her off her feet. She fell to the floor with a thud. I took the opportunity to kick her in the side and wanted her to stay down.
Before anyone else showed, I ran towards the living room. There were many warriors fighting against our members who hadn’t had their dinner spiked. Luckily, not everyone in our pack was a guard.
I spotted Megan fighting against a guy who was taller than she was. Of course, she was kicking his ass and getting a lot of good kicks and punches in.
Where was Zander? My heart sped up at the thought of him being missing. I scanned the area and found him wrestling on the ground with someone. This guy had a switchblade pressed against Zander’s throat.
I intervened and shoved the other guy off Zander.
Zander quickly looked at me and said, “It took you long enough to get here Cleo.”
“I’m here now. You’re lucky I saved your ass. That didn’t look great.”
“I had it under control,” Zander told me.
I shook my head at him and helped him stand up. We stood back to back, as two more warriors came towards us.
We fought as a team and countered the attacks from the intruders.
Suddenly, I wondered where Maurice and Ash were. I’m sure both of them were somewhere far from the main area of fighting. Even my sister wasn’t in plain sight. Maybe she was with Ash. The thought made me feel repulsed.
One warrior rushed full speed towards me, and I had to dodge out of the way. He went falling onto his face nearby.
When he got back up, the guy angrily looked at me and brought his staff up to strike me. His speed surprised me, as I didn’t avoid his attack the next time. I felt the staff hit the back of my head.
I crumpled to the ground and felt a throbbing pain in the back of my head. This guy would pay for his sneak attack. I barely got up before the same man came back and struck me in the stomach.
I made sure to stand my ground, even though he struck me hard. Zander saw I was in trouble and rushed to get to me.
He gave a roundhouse kick to the guy and made him tumble down. Zander looked at me with a lot of concern in his eyes. “Are you okay?”
I nodded yes and searched the area for Ash and his dad. They had to be somewhere. We weren’t looking in the
right area. What if they were outside?
A warrior ran at me, and I leapt upon her. I pinned the woman down and threw a couple good hits. Suddenly, she overpowered me and hit my head against the floor. I looked around to see if I could grab anything to hit her with.
There were no objects around, but I used my hands and tried to reach for her throat. It was difficult to do, as she had me pinned down strongly.
Somehow, Zander found me again and removed the woman from me. He threw her across the room, and she thudded against the wall.
He helped me get up, and I decided to head outside the pack's headquarters. I figured Ash and Maurice were trying to get out of the heat of the battle.
Zander followed me while we constantly dealt with new warriors coming seemingly from nowhere. One warrior knocked Zander down with a low blow. It frustrated me that someone would fight so dirty.
I went over to Zander’s side and kneed the warrior in the groin hard. I was conveniently wearing boots with two-inch heels. The guy went down in an instant.
I waited for Zander to get back up and scanned around for our primary targets. That’s when I spotted Candice standing near Ash. They were fighting two people on our side.
Candice must’ve spotted me and headed right for me. She punched me in the face without warning. I went stumbling back and spit out blood.
She said, “Not so tough without your mate, are you?”
I tackled her to the ground before throwing punches at her pretty face. She wasn’t going to win a fight against me.
Candice blocked a few punches, but I still landed some.
I got off of her when I broke her nose and wondered where Zander had gone off to.
My heart raced out of my chest when I spotted Ash sneaking up behind him. He looked like he had a gleaming weapon in his hand.
I ran like I had never done before and knocked Ash down with my full force. Ash was shocked and shoved me off of him before retreating away from me.
Zander headed for Ash seconds later.
Some warrior came and attacked me, but I kept watch on Zander. I fought back while also watching Zander fight Ash.
I kept fighting against the warrior against me and knocked them out. Slowly, I came closer and closer to Zander. I needed to be around in case he needed my help.
Who knew if Ash would try another sneak attack? He didn’t seem to fight fair and definitely had it out for Zander. I knew I’d do anything to protect Zander. He was my one and only mate who meant a lot to me.
Ash eventually cried out in pain, and I thought I saw something stuck in his shoulder. It was a knife hilt. Zander pulled out the hilt and made Ash recoil from him.
A new warrior came at me with a knife. I dodged her attack and used an abandoned wooden staff that someone had dropped.
I hit her with the staff and sent her sprawling to the ground.
Seconds later, I noticed Zander sprinted off towards someone. Maurice stood a few feet away from a tall guard.
Zander continued racing towards Maurice and let out a fierce battle cry.
