Part 26~Fight for Love~
Part 26 ~Fight for Love~
Two days had passed....two days Donovan walked about feeling as though a brick had replaced his heart. Most of his time was spent inside his room, locked away from everyone. Pure devastation was beginning to settle uncomfortably inside his gut causing his soul to become a hopeless pit of nothingness.
He sat inside his room, staring aimlessly out a large picture window suddenly feeling the tender grip of a hand on his shoulder, making him flinch.
"Son....we need to talk for a bit." He heard the familiar sound of his father's deep voice fill his ears.
"Not right now father.....I...I'm just not in a mood to conversate with anyone at this time." Donovan replied sombrely, not moving a muscle from the position he sat in, still staring out the window. His eyes had lost their spark as though a lifeless dark cloud was glazing over them.
The king had never before seen his eldest son in such a noxious state and it completely wrecked his heart with a fearsome pain. He had to make his son believe that all hope was not lost.....that this young lady still loved him and he needed to act now before all future aspirations ceased to exist.
He also knew his youngest son was beginning to develop deep feelings for this female. As much as the king loved all three of his son's and wished for each of them to have a life of happiness and fulfillment, Devin was not meant to be Shandys match. However it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that the two could not be joined, and this is what concerned him the most.
If Shandy began to reciprocate the feelings for his youngest son, nothing could stop the union between them. Once love begins to bloom it would be impossible to separate them, and instead of his eldest son marrying his betrothed.....it would be his youngest, which would undoubtedly throw off the entire balance, which would ultimately cause much more serious issues to evolve.
At this moment he had to make Donovan get up and demand this young lady to hear him out, before she completely slammed the doors of her heart on him and opened them to his younger brother.
"Son" the king took on a more authoritative tone, knowing that the future of their kingdom rested in the first union among his sons. Donovan's happiness depended upon it as well. Otherwise his life would be lived in a torrential storm of pain, misery and loneliness. No other would ever be capable of owning his heart as his betrothed.
"Are you gonna sit here.....and allow this woman that you love, to simply slip away!?" He stared at his son with a look of disappointment showing on his face.
Donovan stood quickly, facing his father.
"She made it clear that she does not wish to marry a man such as myself. I sicken and repulse her father. I can not force her to.....to change the feelings she has toward me!" He snapped, pain lacing his words.
The king chuckled without a shred of humor.
"Am I to stand here and believe that a son of mine is unwilling to stand up for the female he loves!?....to let her slip from his grasp as if she were nothing more than one of his many conquests!" He boomed out in anger, his eyes narrowing on his eldest.
Donovan's nose flared at his father's cheap, cruel
shot.
"Father! I can not believe you would place her into such a class as....as one of my so called conquests! Shame on you father!" He pointed his finger at his father, raising his voice, eyes bloodshot, breathing erratically.
"Then go......go and find her son.....go before it is too late. Go before your younger brother wins her heart. Yes...she is upset with you! Yes...she is confused!.....All Perfect conditions....for her to turn to another....is that truly what you wish to happen my son?" The king stood directly in front of his eldest son placing a firm, yet loving hand onto his shoulder.
Donovan looked into the eyes of his father, a strong man he had always admired. A man he wanted to follow in the footsteps of. He was right, he would lose her and not to just anyone. He'd lose her to his very own brother. The more he thought of this, the more angered he became, his eyes flashing red.
The king knew that look, he had seen it too many times, that look of sheer determination. He knew that all hope wasn't lost, now that he had gotten through to his first born. Even though he had to anger him to get said results.
"Now go son.....go find her, make her listen to you and really hear the words you have to say.....or maybe you'll need no words at all." The king finished his lecture patting his son's back as he watched him Sprint out of his bedroom in a mad dash to go and claim the woman he so desperately longed for.
