It's a hard-knock life!

Isa was getting tired of this and off conversations but she couldn't stop. Something in her just wanted to keep going probably because she was drawn to his personality she couldn't explain.
" It's okay. I just don't feel it's right discussing such personal matters when we're not an item," she replied.
" And do you wish for us to be an item?" he asked.
" My boss would freak out big time," she replied.
" Your boss?" he asked.
" Yes Mr almighty monster Scott Carter," she replied and sent a rolling eye emoji at least she tried to see that one on the screen.
" Tell me more about him. Why call him a monster? " he asked.
"First if he gets on everyone's nerves, always angry and never smiling. Secondly, he's so uptight, he doesn't know how to have fun. Thirdly, he always likes prying into people's lives the last time you dropped me off, he said I would get pregnant. Like I was some kid." she said.
" Ummm he sounds interesting," he said.
" Interesting? What's interesting about that? "
" It shows he's a man of principles," he said and Isa scuffed inwardly.
" Please, he's just an irritable son of a bitch. " she replied.
" Those are not kind words to say to your boss."
" He's not here." she sent an emoji sticking out its tongue.
" Do you think he likes you? " he asked.
" Sheesh, what makes you say that? Someone who took me as a hostage to clear the debts my parents owed them, he wouldn't even think of such," she told him.
" Then why is he being too overprotective of you?"
" Probably because he doesn't want any other responsibility you know like a child out of wedlock or so," she replied because that was the only possible reason.
" I see. What was your first impression of him? " he asked her.
" Why do you ask so many questions about him anyway? " she wanted to know because these questions were strange.
" He's my boss too and I don't know him to be all those characteristics you've termed him to be. So I want to know that scary aspect of him. "
" Wait till you live with him, you're saying all these because you see him only when he comes around," she told him.
" I agree but I find him quite charming and honest," he replied.
Isa found the conversation interesting today but she didn't know why he was only asking about Scott.
" Enough of the scary monster talk. How are you?" she asked him.
" I'm pretty much good just stressed about work," he replied almost immediately.
" I find it quite fascinating that you reply today almost immediately, most times you take hours to reply to my messages. You got me thinking I was boring you," she told him her truth.
" You're an interesting person to talk to Isa. How are you doing today? Sorry I didn't ask you, pardon my manners."
" I'm not okay! Broke a couple of bones here and there," she told him and he asked her what happened she then went on to tell him about her little adventure with the pipes and how it landed her in the hospital. He sympathized with her and they chatted again for some time before he ghosted her again. At least she was just glad they'd spoken for long this time and about other things.
After she had eaten, she was playing with her cell phone when all of a sudden Mr monster boss came in and she was in shock.
" Did you miss your way sir ?" she asked because it was strange seeing him here, she didn't expect him to be here. Did he come to bill her for his broken pipe? She didn't have money.
" Watch your mouth Isa!" he warned.
" It's the painkillers speaking through me." she justified herself.
" Have you come to bill me? Cuz I got no penny on me," she told him.
" I didn't come to bill you Isa but be rest assured you'll be punished for breaking my pipe and violating my rules." he made it clear to her and she rolled her eyes inwardly.
" Then if you haven't come to bill me, why are you here? " she raised her brows in suspicion.
" I don't owe you any explanations on why I came Isabel. "
" Oh, you came to see if I am dead so that you can announce to my parents that they are free of your claws?" she asked.
" Who is giving you such ridiculous ideas? No! What I came for is none of your business and I wish you'd broken even more than the ones you broke " he said and left.
" You arrogant monkey," she said.
" I heard that." he voiced out loud and she rolled her eyes.
Adams went to the doctor's office to make sure everything was okay with Topaz. He didn't know why he came here in the first place he just found himself driving here to see that stubborn bull. The doctor told him she'll be fine but she'll need to be kept in the hospital for a couple of days so they could monitor her.
He left the office and went back to Isa's room.
" You still have quite some time to spend here, make sure you don't commit any mischief while you're here. I'll stop Claire from coming here because both of you together can cause an atomic bomb hence Mrs Macy will be the one coming here to see you," he informed her.
" But why?" she cried out, no offence Mrs Macy but you're not fun.
" I've said what I came here to say. " he turned to leave.
" You could have just called," she told him and he passed a cold glance her way before exiting the room. She was eager to talk to someone and she called Marco again, luckily this time it rang she just hoped he will pick up.
" Finally you pick my call," she said.
" Isa? Isa! I thought you'd forgotten your long-time bestie now that you're in civilization." he said and she knew he just teased her that was their way of expressing love to each other.
" I miss you guys and I miss home too." it was true she wasn't lying, she considered the neighbourhood her home because she grew up there.
" Yeah right! I bet you're happy now that you are out of sight from your eagle mother," he said and she laughed. He went ahead to tell her about the rumours that had spread about her in the neighbourhood. Some people had said she had gotten pregnant for Daniel and because her mother didn't want any shame, sent her away to the city. She couldn't believe her ears, some people just wanted to chase clout, she had never even dated him considering how Lauren felt for him. She was so certain Lauren was the face behind that fake propaganda. Another rumour was that her mother had had enough of her troubles and had sold her off for money to a factory owner on the east side of town. All through that one was similar to what happened except she had been given to clear debts and all these made Isa wonder where the fuck were people gathering all this information from?
" So tell me how are you doing? Where are you? I'm worried about you, hope you are being taken care of wherever you are?" his questions brought tears to Isa's eyes as she instantly fell homesick. Not that she missed her parents and everything but she just missed all the good memories she had with her friends.
" I'm doing well Marco don't worry about me. Did the university grant you admission?"
" I'm still waiting, although I got accepted into Riverside University, you know Howard is my dream," he said and Isa felt a tinge of jealousy. Those were her age mates advancing in their studies and here she was working her life out in someone's mansion because of the carelessness of her parents, life indeed is so unfair.
