Chapter 101 Pregnant Woman Jumps off Building
"You promised to arrange for a driver to drive me back; why did you involve Seb?" Before Seb could respond, Isabella waved her hands. "No need to trouble Mr. Landon; I'll just take a taxi back." With that, she quickly slipped away.
Originally, she still held a glimmer of hope, thinking that maybe the taxi from earlier hadn't left yet, and she could catch that taxi back to the hospital.
But when she ran out, she realized that the yard outside was empty. That taxi had long disappeared.
Isabella opened the ride-hailing app and sent out an order, but after three minutes, no taxis were available.
That was how it was in wealthy neighborhoods; it was quite inconvenient.
Isabella started walking down the road and had only gone about a hundred feet when she heard a car behind her.
Then, the car stopped right in front of her. Seb was in the car, saying, "Get in."
Isabella shook her head. "No need, Mr. Landon. I can hail a cab."
Seb furrowed his brows slightly. "Don't overthink it. It was Mr. Jose's request. His family driver is off today, and it's not right to trouble the driver to make a round trip just for you along the way."
With the conversation reaching this point, if Isabella continued to refuse, she would seem overly dramatic.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Isabella opened the back door and got into the car.
As soon as she settled in, Seb asked, "Going to Harvar University?"
"No. To the hospital," said Isabella.
"Okay." Seb didn't ask anything else, stepped on the gas, and the car drove forward.
Music played in the car, Seb remained silent throughout the journey, while Isabella kept looking out the window.
The two didn't exchange a word.
As the car arrived at the entrance to the hospital ward, a crowd of people could be seen in the distance.
Police car lights were flashing.
Isabella's heart inexplicably tightened. As soon as the car stopped, she quickly got out. "Mr. Landon, thank you for taking me back. Goodbye."
Then she hurriedly ran towards the commotion.
The onlookers were lively, pointing and gesturing upwards.
The entrance to the hospital department was cordoned off, and paramedics were urgently setting up air cushions.
Isabella grabbed a middle-aged woman and asked, "What's happening here?"
The woman pointed to the rooftop. "A pregnant woman is about to jump off!"
"Yes, it seems she was beaten by her husband, coincidentally pregnant, asked for a divorce, and the husband disagreed. She couldn't bear it for a moment."
‘Beaten by her husband, coincidentally pregnant, asked for a divorce but the husband disagreed.’ Upon hearing this, Isabella's heart sank. These characteristics resembled Nina.
But when she left, Nina seemed quite stable emotionally, so she didn't think Nina would do something like this.
She dialed Nina's phone.
But it rang for a long time, and no one answered.
A scream erupted from the crowd. The figure standing on the edge of the building seemed to sway a couple of times, on the verge of falling.
"Sis!" Isabella couldn't remain calm, clutching her phone. She headed towards the hospital entrance.
But she was stopped by a police officer at the entrance. "What are you doing? Don't you know the situation here?"
"That person upstairs is my sister. Let me in. I need to see her." Isabella was somewhat agitated.
"Your sister?" The officer was momentarily puzzled.
At that moment, a pair of large hands reached out, firmly grasping Isabella's shoulders, providing her with the support she needed, and preventing her from collapsing.
Isabella turned her head and saw Seb. He glanced at her, then said to the officer, "Let us go up. The person involved only has this one sister, maybe she can persuade her.”
The officer nodded and sent someone to escort them upstairs.
As the elevator ascended, Isabella kept dialing Nina's phone, but it continued to go unanswered. She was on the verge of breaking down.
The hospital had a total of 32 floors, and the elevator couldn't go directly to the top floor. It took them up to the 31st floor, and they still had to climb one flight of stairs to get to the top.
Perhaps due to extreme nervousness and fear, Isabella's legs were trembling so badly that she couldn't take a step, despite holding onto the handrail.
Seb stood beside her for a moment, then bent down directly, carrying her up in his arms.
Isabella looked at him in surprise, but he didn't meet her gaze, carrying her swiftly. He rushed up to the rooftop.
A gust of cold wind hit them.
Seb set her down and then took off his coat, draping it over Isabella's shoulders.
"Bella?" Nina and two police officers stood together. When Nina saw Isabella, a hint of surprise appeared on her pale face.
"Sis!" Isabella almost ran over, embracing Nina. "Why are you so foolish? No matter what, you can't leave me alone."
She burst into tears. A profound fear enveloped her like a thick shadow, making it hard for her to catch her breath.
Nina was momentarily stunned, patting her back to comfort her. "Is there a misunderstanding? It's not me who was going to jump."
Tears streamed down Isabella's face. "It's really not you?"
"No." Just as Nina was about to explain, a police officer approached her, saying, "He is very agitated and insists on talking to you."
At that moment, a familiar voice could be heard not far away.
"Nina, I'll count to ten. If you don't come to see me, I'll jump from here."
Isabella widened her eyes in shock. "Is it Charlie?" The person about to jump off the building was actually Charlie!
"Ten!"
"Nine!"
Nina furrowed her brows. "I'm coming."
As she tried to move forward, Isabella quickly grabbed her. "Sis."
Nina patted her hand, reassuring her. "The officers will protect me. Don't worry."
How could Isabella not worry? "Sis, you must take care of yourself. I can't be without you."
She wasn't afraid that Charlie would fall, she was afraid that Charlie would go crazy and drag Nina to death with him.
Nina nodded. "Don't worry. I'll be fine." She turned to Seb. "Mr. Landon, please take care of my sister Isabella."
Seb nodded. "Don't worry."
The wind on the rooftop was strong, with only those few red-lit words. There was no other light shining over.
Amidst the sound of the wind, Isabella couldn't make out the conversation over there.
She bit her lip and walked a short distance forward.
The officer reminded her, "You're standing too close, it's not convenient for us to carry out the rescue."
Standing there, she could already see Nina and Charlie holding onto the railing.
"Nina, you finally agreed to see me." Charlie cried. "Have you forgiven me?"
Nina frowned. "Come down first."
Charlie said, "I know I've wronged you. I shouldn't have laid a hand on you. I'm not a good husband. But Nina, if I have to watch you abort our child, it's better for me to die. If I die, can you at least spare his life and continue our family line?"
"It is not the time for this discussion. Come down first, and we can sit down and talk properly," said Nina.
Charlie stood on the edge of the railing, half of his body hanging over the void, only his hands gripping the rusty railing. His current situation was undoubtedly dangerous.
With tears in his eyes, Charlie looked at her. "I know I've made a huge mistake. If you won't turn back, I can only atone for my sins with death. When I die, you must live well with the child."
Upon Saying that, Charlie suddenly let go of one hand, with most of his body hanging over the edge.
