Chapter 99 No More Smiles

Isabella was somewhat taken aback.

"You're right. From the moment Charlie Wilson laid hands on me, we can't go back. Since we've decided to end it, this child can't stay," Nina said, touching her belly with a pained look.

Only Nina knew how much she longed for this child. She knew the taste of drinking medicine daily until she threw up; that pain was only understood by her.

Now that the child was there, she had to abort it. The affliction in her heart, only she could comprehend.

Isabella felt a dull pain in her heart, reaching out to support Nina. "Whatever decision you make, I support you."

Not far away, Seb and Jack stood together, watching from a distance.

"Mr. Landon, is that Isabella?" asked Jack.

Seb remained silent, his gaze fixed on Isabella.

Jack observed, "Should we go say hello?"

"No need." Seb withdrew his gaze.

Since they were destined to be from different worlds, all he could do was keep his distance.

"What about Isabella Miller resigning?" Jack informed Seb as soon as he received the resignation letter. He knew Seb had special feelings for Isabella.

Without Seb's approval, Jack didn't dare to act on his own.

But this delay had dragged on several days.

After a moment of silence, Seb said, "Approved."

Jack's eyes betrayed a hint of regret. "Understood."

Seb gave Isabella one last glance before stepping into the elevator.

Jack followed.

Seb instructed, "Handle Nina Miller's matter."

"Okay," said Jack.

At noon, Charlie brought over a pot of rib soup.

As he offered a spoonful to Nina, she turned her head away. "Bella, step outside for a moment. I need to talk to him."

"Alright." Isabella walked to the door, closed it behind her, but kept her ears peeled for any sounds inside.

If Charlie dared to harm Nina, she would definitely rush in, regardless of whether she could handle him, and give Charlie a beating.

Inside the ward, Charlie scooped up another spoonful of soup and blew on it. "I tasted it. The seasoning is just right. Try a sip."

Nina pushed his hand away. "I have no appetite."

Charlie said, "Fine. I'll leave it here. When you feel like it, I'll heat it up for you."

"Charlie Wilson, let’s get a divorce." Nina's voice was calm.

Charlie paused, looking at her incredulously. "At this point, are you saying something foolish?"

"I'm not saying anything foolish." Nina stared into Charlie's eyes. "I've thought about it, and I want a divorce."

"Just because I lost control and hit you?" Charlie's expression turned cold. "Nina, divorce is a big deal. I hope you think it through. After all, because you're pregnant, do you really want the child to grow up without a father? Or are you planning to remarry with my child? As long as I'm alive, I will never allow my child to call another man dad."

Nina pursed her lips. "I know."

Charlie hurried to hold Nina's hand. "You know I didn't mean to hit you. I saw you bringing a man home, so I lost control out of anger. I've thought about it carefully. I shouldn't have laid a hand on you. You don't know that I've been having a hard time at work lately. Plus, my mom has been pressuring us to have a child. I was in a bad mood, that's why I couldn't control myself. Now that you're pregnant, our relationship has a guarantee. Nina, I promise I won't lay a hand on you again. Once you give birth to our baby, the three of us will live happily together."

Nina listened quietly as Charlie spoke, then slowly withdrew her hand.

Then she calmly said, "I know you won't allow me to divorce with the child, so I've made up my mind to get an abortion."

Charlie widened his eyes. "What do you mean? You want to harm this child? Nina, you're so heartless!"

Nina looked away. "Let's part ways amicably."

"Part ways amicably?" Charlie stood up, staring fiercely at Nina. "You say we'll part ways amicably? It's not that easy."

The calmer Nina appeared the more agitated Charlie became.

He said, "I'm telling you now. If you dare touch my child, you'll never be able to divorce forever!"

A few minutes later, Charlie stormed out.

Isabella returned to the room. "Did he hurt you?"

Nina weakly shook her head, her eyes reddening. She said, "You've been with me all day, not going to work, won't the boss deduct your pay?"

Isabella didn't want to add to Nina's worries, so she kept her resignation a secret and simply said, "I've already asked Mr. Landon for a day off. It's fine."

As soon as she finished speaking, her phone rang.

"I'll take this call." Isabella took her phone and went to the balcony.

It was Kelsey on the line, sounding anxious from the start. "Isabella, what happened? Why did you suddenly resign?"

Isabella had few friends, but her only friend, Samantha, had betrayed her deeply.

Since then, Isabella no longer believed in friendship.

In a true sense, Kelsey wasn't really her friend, just a colleague.

But the fact that Kelsey called at this moment did touch Isabella. "I'm fine. I resigned for personal reasons and it's not convenient to explain."

"Is it because of the food poisoning incident?" Kelsey asked because that was what everyone in the office had been saying.

"No," said Isabella.

"That's good. Are you free tonight? I want to see you," asked Kelsey.

"Do you have something to discuss?" Isabella primarily wanted to stay with Nina; given Nina's current state, Isabella felt she could only rest easy by staying close.

"It's nothing special." Kelsey said, "I just want to talk to you about something in person."

"Okay." Isabella agreed and gave her an address close to the hospital.

At six o’clock in the evening, Isabella arrived at the agreed restaurant.

As she entered, Kelsey, already seated, waved cheerfully at her. "Isabella, over here!"

Isabella walked over quickly. "You got here early?"

"I just got here a couple of minutes ago." Kelsey poured her a glass of warm water. "I'm free anyway, so it's no problem waiting for you."

Isabella took a seat.

They ordered a few dishes. Kelsey started the conversation. "Why did you suddenly resign? Seb hasn't been smiling since you left the company."

Isabella choked at Kelsey's statement.

Resting her chin on her hand, Kelsey stared at her intently. "Did you resign because of Seb?"

"No!" Isabella denied.

Raising an eyebrow, Kelsey asked, "You answered so quickly without even thinking?"

Feeling awkward, Isabella replied, "I resigned to find a better job, so it has nothing to do with Mr. Landon."

"Have you found a better job?" asked Kelsey.

"Not yet." Isabella did not conceal the truth.

"Then that reason doesn't hold up," said Kelsey.
