Chapter 30 - Ruined Plans

Damien had his plan in place. He was going to let Nolan and Silas die, but not at his hands. He decided to let them try and abduct Alessandra and Luci from the palace. After they were inside, his spies would alert the king that there were intruders.

One of the spies had told Damien that they had crowned Luci a princess, so abducting her was just as bad as abducting one of the other royals. He laughed as he thought about Damien and Silas rotting in the dungeons.

"What's so funny?" Nolan walked into his office without knocking, and Damien felt like ripping his head off. He never showed him any respect, the cocky son of a bitch.

"None of your business. Where are you off to?" Damien asked as if he didn't know. Their faces were finally healed after a week, just as Nolan had predicted.

"I have a few things to take care of, and I want to get out of this house. Now that we no longer look like monsters, there's no need for me to stay here." Nolan smirked at Damien, not intending to tell him Silas was picking him up so they could go to the palace. It was time for Damien and his family to meet their demise.

"Don't forget we have to return to work, so let me know when you get to New York." He could hardly hold back his laugh, knowing Nolan would never return to New York.

"Will do; talk to you later." Nolan waved as he walked out of the office and out the front door. Silas was outside waiting for him, and as soon as he was in the car, they headed to the airport to catch their plane to Maine.

Damien watched the car pull out of his driveway and picked up his phone. He called one of his spies and told them Nolan and Silas were on their way. Damien chuckled after he had hung up. It was time to start recruiting vampires to take Nolan's place.

Nolan and Silas barely spoke on the plane to Maine. Both were nervous about infiltrating the palace to take the two women, but neither would admit it.

As the plane landed, they went to the car rental and picked up a SUV with tinted windows. Nolan thought it would be best to take the women somewhere away from the royals before killing them.

Neither of them had been to the palace, but they knew where it was located. They started driving, and the closer they got, the more anxious they became. Nolan saw the large gate closing the palace off from the rest of the world, and he pulled over before they got too close.

"Let's get out here and see if we can find a way inside. Once we get past the gate, getting into the palace shouldn't be too hard." Silas nodded, but he wasn't as confident as Nolan. They didn't notice they were being watched by several guards who had been waiting for them.

Nolan and Silas crept around the large iron fence that went around the entire property. To their surprise, a small gate near the back was slightly open, like someone had not closed it all the way. They snuck in through the gate and stopped to make sure no one saw them.

The four guards that were watching them shook their heads. These vampires were idiots; the guards were not well hidden, but the two men didn't even look around to see if they were being followed. The guards held back their laugh when the men entered the trap set for them.

Nolan and Silas hunched down and kept themselves against the palace walls as they looked for a door to go in. They made sure not to make a sound and were shocked they hadn't run into any guards or guests.

As they rounded the next corner, there was a narrow door that looked like it was for the servants. Nolan held his breath as he turned the handle. He smiled as it opened without a sound, and they walked into what looked like a storage room.

Nolan held his finger up to his lips as they listened. There were people talking, and it sounded like they were talking about the newly crowned princess.

"Did you see the crown that the king gave Princess Lucinda? It was so pretty. She's so beautiful that it almost hurts my eyes. I know some people don't like her because she's a vampire, but I think she's nice."

"Yes, I saw the crown. Now, stop all the jabbering and get this stuff to the prince's room on the third floor."

Nolan almost clapped his hands; they had inadvertently told them where Luci was. If she was on the third floor with Xavier, her mother was probably there as well.

The two women who had been talking stifled their giggles. They knew there were men in the storage room listening to them. The whole palace was ready for them and were setting a trap.

When Nolan heard the women leave, he and Silas stepped out of the storage room. No one else was in the kitchen, so they quickly made their way to the door.

Nolan peeked his head out and saw an empty hallway. He could see a set of stairs at the end of the hall, and he motioned for Silas to follow him. They walked out and acted casual in the event they saw anyone.

They quickly made their way up to the third floor when they reached the stairs. Nolan looked around the corner and saw a woman walking out of one of the rooms.

"Have a nice day, Princess Lucinda." The young woman said before closing the door behind her. To Nolan's relief, the woman walked in the opposite direction.

They crept out of their hiding place and walked to the door the woman had just closed. Nolan silently counted to three and walked into the room, followed by Silas. They tried to turn around and leave when they saw what greeted them, but four guards blocked their way.

The King, Queen, Xavier, Luci, and Alessandra were all in the room, clearly waiting for them, along with several guards. Luci walked toward them with a smirk.

"Nice to see your face is healed, Nolan. Thank you for gracing us with your presence; we've been waiting for you." Luci walked back over to Xavier, and he wrapped his arms around her.

"Nolan and Silas, I'm King Malik. I understand that you have come here to kidnap Princess Lucinda and her mother. While we decide your punishment, you can enjoy the comforts of our dungeons, and you will not receive any blood. Guards, take them away."

King Mailk motioned for the guards before the men had a chance to speak. The guards dragged the two men away after slipping collars on them. Nolan didn't know what was on the collars, but they made him feel lightheaded and weak. He realized they must have had a witch place a spell on them to prevent them from using their vampire strength.

The guards threw them into different cells, and both screamed in pain as they slammed against the wall. The spell on the collars made them not much more than human. Nolan curled in a ball on the floor and was shaking with fear. He had underestimated the king. Now, what was he going to do?

Luci felt like jumping for joy, watching Nolan and Silas being dragged away. She turned toward the King and Queen, smiling.

"Thank you. You saved me and my mother's lives." Luci bowed to them, and Queen Reina walked over to her.

"My dear Luci, you are both part of our family, and we protect our family." The queen hugged her. She liked Luci and thought she would make a powerful queen.

"I don't want you to kill them right away. I want to make them suffer for a while and then see if we can get information about their operation. We still have to stop whoever else is involved in kidnapping shifters and vampires. They also have killed countless humans; Luci was a witness to that." Xavier pulled Luci to his side and kissed her forehead.

"Alright, son, I'll tell you what. I'm going to let you and Luci handle their punishment and the investigation. This will be good preparation for you to become the king and queen." King Mailk liked this idea. He knew they could handle it, and it would be one step closer to handing everything over to the two of them.

Xavier nodded at his father and mother as they left the room, followed by Alessandra. When they were alone, Xavier turned to Luci and smiled.

"So, my queen, are you ready to show everyone what good leaders we will make?" Xavier leaned down to kiss her before she could answer.

"Yes, it will be another chance to try to win over some of those in the kingdom who don't think I belong. This may sound sadistic, but I love the idea of making Nolan suffer." Luci grinned as Xavier laughed. He knew she would like that part. They sat at the desk and started reviewing the best way to do the interrogation in a few days after the two men had been without blood and were ready to go insane.
