At the hospital
"I am at hospital, mum slumped very heavily in her room and she has been hospitalized." Nimah cried as she spoke with Nathan. She could not contain herself, she knew what to do next.
"What did you just say." Nathan's voice dropped slowly like a leave falling from a tree. He sounded like his brain delayed the processing of the meaning of what Nimah told him. "Which hospital are you?" He spoke like he would break down any time.
"Come straight to the city hospital." Nimah replied. "Come quickly please."
Nathan ran out of the Paddington Villa, running as fast as he could, looking for a taxicab he could thumb at.
He ran out of the McCain estate and headed to the car port, he would be able to find a car that could take him to the city hospital.
He walked from cabs from cabs, but none of them seem vacant, most of them had been ordered and before he could get a cab, he would have to go to the office to order a cab.
That was alot for him, he would not be able to wait for the long process.
He stood there, contemplating on what to do, just then he remembered Jayden. He must still be waiting for Nimah, so he decided to give him a call.
"Hello, Jayden?"
"Nathan! The girl is not here yet, I don't think she took this route." Jayden complained.
"It is good you are there... Come straight to McCain's estate's car port right away." He said with a persuasive tone.
Vvroom!
Jayden drove into the car port but he could not find Nathan anywhere. He texted him about his arrival and where he was.
In no time, Nathan arrived, running quickly and got into the car. He could not wait to get to the city hospital, and the impatience was obvious on his face.
"What is wrong Nathan?" Jayden queried as he noticed Nathan hyperventilating excessively and soaked by his own sweat.
"Take me to the City hospital now." Nathan spoke orderly. His face was red and every strand of hair on his skin were erected.
Without any further questions or objections, Jayden drove off to the City hospital, where Nathan's mother was admitted.
Nathan, after coming down from the cab at the front of the hospital, he scurried into the reception where Nimah sat, with her face buried in her palms. She was weeping bitterly.
"Hey girl, where is my mom?"
Nimah heard suddenly and she jerked her head up in shock, she looked up at the tearful eyes, which was staring down at her, the eyes were saying alot but she could only see the pain of a son.
"Nathan..." Nimah's lips trembled. "Mum is in the theatre." She wept.
Nathan ran his fingers across his hair, tapping his feet continuously, he didn't know what to say to Nimah. Whether to thank her for taking his mother to the hospital at the right time or scold her for not being able to protect his mum.
"I need to tell dad about this." Nathan brought out his phone and went out of the hospital to inform his father about it.
Nimah saw the doctor as he came out of the theatre and approached him eagerly.
"Doc. how is my mom doing?"
"It is nothing to worry about. Your mom will get better soon, okay?" The doctor patted her shoulder. "Well, where is Mr. Branz? Has he arrived yet? I need to have a word with him."
"Oh no! He has not been home for a very long time, he doesn't stay here."
"Who then were you talking to awhile ago? Wasn't he Nathan?" The doctor raised his brow questioningly.
"Yes! That was Nathan, were you referring to him?"
"Oops!" The doctor rub his palm together. "I know that Mr. Branz does not live, I expect you to know I was referring to Nathan and not his dad. Anyways, you have not told me who you are to Mrs. Branz." The doctor asked.
"She is a maid." Nathan responded as he entered the reception.
A maid? Nimah turned her head, glaring at Nathan, who was smirking as he approached the duo.
"I am not a maid but a daughter if the Branz family." Nimah defended herself. Keeping mute and just staring without saying anything in defense, would be an insult to her personality. She would not let Nathan go on with his tomfoolery this time.
"Oh really?" Nathan chuckled mockingly. "Of course! She will certainly defend herself by calling herself the daughter of the Branz when she failed to perform her duty as a maid. She is the one responsible for my mother's current condition." Nathan frowned.
"What are you guys debating? Who is telling the truth amongst both of you?" The doctor asked as he was confused by their drama.
"Obviously, it is me." Nimah and Nathan said coincidentally.
"Well, the truth is not going to take a role in Mrs. Alicia's welfare. I only wanted to know if she is anyway related to her, just come with me Nathan." The doctor said and walked away with Nathan following him.
What could he want to discuss with Nathan, that made him so serious? Nimah thought, pacing up and down as she contemplated. Why was Nathan being so mean and inconsiderate. Why would he hold her responsible for his mum's condition? She really needed to get Nathan's mindset back on the track.
Finally, Nathan was out of the doctor's office, she thought of asking him of what the doctor said to him regarding ms. Alicia's health but she knew he would never tell her anything.
Then she thought if going to the doctor, bit would the doctor say anything about it to her? For him to insist on seeing only Nathan, it must be something confidential. All she cared about now was Ms. Alicia's well being.
She ran to the doctor. "Doc. can I see mum just once, this is a dear request from a daughter." Tears fell from her eyes as she spoke with the doctor.
"I am sorry young lady, we can't just allow any how person into a patient ward, and according to the son of the patient you are a maid, the one responsible for his mother's condition and he says you should not be allowed in to the ward ." The doctor walked away.
"You will not go close to my mother." Nathan whispered to her ears as he walked past her.
"You can try as much as you want, but you will never be able to separate me from my new mother."
Nathan had gone for so many hours without coming to check on his mother, leaving Nimah alone at the hospital. Nimah was exhausted and hungry, sitting all alone in the reception, bored and worried.
"This is the girl." Nimah heard Nathan voice after a very long wait, she looked up to the direction where the voice came from.
Nathan stood pointing at her as some men in uniform, stood behind her. Nimah stood up, staring at the uniform men behind Nathan.
"Nathan, who are these people?" Nimah asked for clarification. It would not be what she thought they were, cops.
"They are here to take you with them, they are police officers." Nathan replied her and gestured them to her.
"W-w-what is going on Nathan? Why did you bring police men here? What have I done?" Nimah stammered in confusion.
"You're under arrest, young lady please come with us." One of the police men motioned her move.
"You need to arrest this girl, she is the one responsible for my mother's condition and she has to pay for it." Nathan said to them.
"Nathan, what are you doing to me? Your mother slumped in her bedroom and she was alone then, so why are you doing this ?" Nimah cried.
"She is my mother's maid, and one of her responsibility is to take care of my mother's room. For mom to slump, she must have step on something slippery, right?"
"I am not a maid, I am Nimah Branz... I am part of this family, why would I hurt my mom? Think of it police officer, does this man standing before you has the proof of all his accusations against me? Don't you think he's telling a lie?"
"Mr. Nathan Branz, can you tell us if you have any proof?"
Nathan looked up, scratching his head as he stared at Nimah. Nathan looked confused for a while before he eventually responded.
"Yes! I definitely have a proof."
;;;;
"Yes! Nimah is our maid, and I was there when she pushed my mom. She attempted to kill my mother, she's cruel. You need to sentence her."
"You're wrong, Nimah is innocent."
