Chapter 38 - Silver Revelations
Making my way back to my room, I tried to think of a way to ask Damon where The Stationarys obtain their silver supply. I imagined all Stationarys have their silver managed by a kind of warehouse.
Given that the hybrids could not withstand the silver's effects like the werewolves could, and that the humans could use it to kill the werewolves, it was too risky to allow the humans to work there. And who the hell was handling the silver?
The celebration tomorrow seems like the best place to go about this, I decided. Before bringing up the topic of where the silver comes from, I would wait until Damon had had a few drinks, but maybe there was someone else there I could ask. A considerably less likely person to kill me. There was a slight knock on my door almost immediately after I went inside my room. I opened the door to Evan looking terrified .
"Evan, what are you doing here?"
His gaze settled on my bruises and he said, "I haven't seen you. I got worried."
"You can't be here, you have to leave."
“I have to speak with you for a moment.”
"Trust me, it's not safe."
"What did he do to you?" His eyes scanned my exposed arms and neck, asking, "Did he do that because of last night?"
"No, it had nothing to do with you, it was something else-"
"If he ever puts another hand on you, I promise to kill him. How could he-"
"He didn't hit me Evan, it wasn't like that!"
"He had you," he said, his eyes burning with pain like a narrow shaft of black light. It eventually dawned on him. Grabbing Evan by the arms, I pulled him inside the bedroom as I glanced out into the hallway. Letting it be known that I was speaking with him was the last thing I needed to happen.
"We need to talk about the potion."
Evan attempted to regain his focus, but it was obvious that my lack of response just supported his statements. Yes. Indeed, Damon and I had sex last night. However, I hoped that Evan would back off since I was unable to tell him verbally.
After a while, he said, "I heard. Maria informed me."
"I don't know what to do," I disclosed," I thought of trying to find out where The Stationary gets their silver for the fences from, maybe there's a warehouse or something nearby."
"There is, it's not too far, I'd say a few hours out from Akbur Hills, but there is no way we would get to it."
"Why not?"
"Because it's flooded by vampires."
"Why vampires?"
“I just heard that, so I'm not sure. In contrast, vampires are ten times more dangerous than werewolves.”
"Fuck!" I said out loud. Every idea that crossed my mind seemed like it was cut off right away.
"It's not too bad of an idea though, the vampires need humans to feed, don't they?"
"What are you saying?"
"I don't know, maybe I can work out a deal. I'll take the silver if I let them feed on me."
"Evan, that's an insane idea."
"I could trick them into thinking that I'll use the silver to kill the wolves and let them out."
“They're not going to go for it. If the vampires only desired to feed on you, why would you kill the werewolves in order to save them?”
With a sigh,he said "You're right."
"You have to go, before Damon finds you, we'll figure this out another time."
Evan touched my cheek with his fingers and said, "Okay, I'll go, but Ana."
"What?" His touch had such a wonderful feeling. Glancing at Evan, I blinked tears from time to time. I had forgotten what a real kiss felt like until he bent forward and gave me a gentle peck on the lips.
Leaning even closer to him, I closed my eyes. I resisted taking my lips off of him. Our mouths remained sealed together until my tears turned to salt.
"Evan, was it you? The person I lost my virginity to." Tell me, please, that it was.
"Yes, you don't remember?"With a shake of my head. Despite my relief, I couldn't help but question why, after all this time, I couldn't recall.
"Okay, you really have to go now." Pushing against his chest, I opened the door.
“Be careful. And, don’t do anything without first telling me." Taking one last glance at me, he turned to leave. That evening, I returned to the library to look for books that might provide me with additional information about the distribution of silver since The Downworlders Revolution. I looked everywhere, but the only information I could discover described in full how to hold vampires was in a book called Vampire Prisons.
Wooden stakes and vervain should be used to construct cells, which should be at least half a mile underground. Three days must pass between the distribution of blood supply. I learned that the silver's storehouse, which also served as the vampires' prison, was located underground, but that wasn't very helpful. The silly lockable brown leather case had me lured to it once more.
I may eventually succeed in opening it, maybe someday.
