Chapter 42 - Chaos
Positioned beside the cage was a wolf from the council that was on stage. Someone handed him a microphone as the music was turned off.
“The Emanator is a gas distributor,” and he gestured to a big metal box inside the cage. "It releases gas and causes the mortal to lose consciousness in a matter of minutes when I press this red button," he said, raising a little remote control.
“You can’t do this, I said to Damon as I turned back.
"I can, and I will."
"Damon, please, I'm begging you."
Someone shushed me "Shhh!"
“Though it might take a few minutes for them to die, the Emantor will release enough gas to expose everyone within a four-mile radius, we placed three of them in villages, or four for bigger ones like Akbur Hills."
My heart sank. Were they already situated in Akbur Hills?
"I will not turn on the Emantor tonight, I will just use a small dosage of the gas to give to this mortal, the gas is harmless to werewolves."
I yelled, "Please, Damon, stop him!" at him.
"Why don't we just place a couple of these in every village already and get it over with?"
"What's the wait for?" said a person from the crowd. It is proven to be effective."
"Okay, excellent questions," the man with the remote and microphone replied. The answer is straightforward: there aren't enough hybrids. The scheme is working because hybrids are waiting for the vampires when they run to communities where blood is present. We do not have enough of them to do this all at once.
Now keep a careful eye on this mortal boy. observe his eyes turn back to his head as he falls asleep. I could feel the sinking of my chest drowning beneath my own two feet. I could not stand to watch, I could not stand to do nothing at all-
A terrifying scream was let forth by someone. With everyone looking in that direction, the noise had originated at the front doors. A man who I could only characterize as a beast stood behind the human valet boy, who was still screaming. With his teeth buried deep in the boy's neck, he had icy-white hair.
"Vampires," Daphine cried out.
With a swift motion, the council exited the platform, and the crowd let out a scream and hurried towards one another.
"We're under attack, get the soldiers here now, everyone but border control!" Damon was barking orders at Luke, who was yelling at someone on his phone. Initially, I thought there was only one vampire. But everything transpired in a split second, an army of them entered the room with lightning speed.
Next, there was chaos.
I saw as heads were being ripped off and blood was covering the floors like carpets, and the dancers had transformed into fully grown wolves. Tables also flew into the air.
"What's going on, what do we do?" Tiffany was clutching her growing belly and had her eyes wide open as I let out a scream.
"This is your chance! You need to go, now!" she exclaimed.
"What are you talking about?" As the chair dropped in front of us, I was having trouble hearing her. "These are the vampires that escaped Somber Forest, the ones guarding the silver!"
"How do you know?" I exclaimed.
"Trust me, I heard Luke on the phone. They escaped.”
With my eyes fixed on the cage, I noticed that Evan was unconscious.
Someone screamed out, "Get the hybrids from The Stationary down here, now!"
My only chance was this. My father, Evan, Maria, and all the remaining humans depends me . "I'm going-"
"Take a car," said Tiffany, clutching my arm. “Inside the gray box next to the valet are the keys.”
Nodding, I took off running. Between smashed couches, glass and blood all over the floor, I padded. I wanted to rip my stilettos off. The person who abruptly blocked my path appeared to be a foot away from the doors.
the man whose hair was ice white. Inside my mouth, I could feel my teeth twitching. I concluded that it had to be death at this point.
He said, grinning wickedly, "Where do you think you're going?" He had opened his mouth wide, his eyes glistening scarlet. Not even werewolves could compare to the terrible thing that stood before me. I tripped on something. The body of the deceased human boy. I sensed that I was falling onto his bloody pile on the floor. I felt my bones tremble as the vampire hovered over me.
My attention was suddenly drawn to something. Someone approaching the vampire from behind, it was Damon. His shirt was ripped, his bleeding chest stained his hands, hair and feet. His eyes met mine.
"Run," he mouthed. He leaped up into the air and landed until of the vampire as a wolf, sending the vampire and himself hurtling away. I quickly broke through the doors and went outside without waiting another second. The box containing all of the car keys was wrenched open by me. I grabbed the one that was labeled; Alpha Damon. I hurried inside and labored to switch on his car, which was parked the closest.
"Do I know how to fucking drive?" When the engine fired up, I let out a loud cry, "Do I?"
I begged for my memory to come back, but it seemed to have been activated by default since I found myself accelerating down the poorly illuminated street and into the night.
