Chapter 68. Charles and Eva
**68. Charles and Eva**
***Third Person's POV:***
Eva rushed up, feeling a sudden warmth spreading across her body. Her body was thrilled, but she suppressed it because she was worried about her sister-in-law, who may be in bad condition since Cindy had urgently requested her return.
She dashed inside Rafael and Astrid's bedroom. She was ready to ask what had happened to her when her sight was drawn to the man with his back to her.
He was dressed in black pants and a black shirt that fit his physique wonderfully.
Charles was feeling restless as well. As a hybrid of a werewolf and a vampire, he was more attuned to the presence of his mate than any other vampire or werewolf.
He was quite unique in himself because it was also rare that vampires other than royals would find their mates outside the vampire realm. If they did, the odds were that only female vampires would find werewolf or human mates, making vampires scarce. There were a few male vampires who had other species' mates.
When Charles sensed his mate behind him, he turned back, his wolf roaring in his brain. She was more gorgeous than he could have imagined.
He began to approach Eva gradually. "Mate," he said at the same time Eva did. Everyone's gaze shifted to Eva and Charles.
"Here comes another pair," Cindy remarked, her laughter breaking the tension in the room.
Unlike Bryan, who was ready to pounce on Cindy the moment he saw her, Charles exuded serenity, which impressed Rafael. However, he wouldn't allow his sister to go with a random stranger. He had already begun mind-linking his men to obtain any information on Charles.
"I guess we are going to become a family now... I suppose my fortune is good. I don't want to have an awkward conversation with someone we don't know!" remarked Astrid.
Eva's vampire side urged her to claim her mate, but she was naturally bashful and wouldn't do anything in front of her family, particularly Rafael, whom she saw as a father figure in her life.
"What is your name?" Charles wondered who she was and what she was doing here.
"Eva Delmar is my only sister, whom I love more than anything else. I hope you'll take good care of her," Rafael smirked, and Charles picked up on the warning in Rafael's voice.
His pupils dilated even further. He couldn't believe he had been mated with the vampire princess.
"Rafael, stop intimidating him." Astrid laughed. Rafael was attempting to highlight his strength with each word he spoke, she noticed.
Rafael sneered, "You're no fun, Little Dove. Anyways, do you both want to talk about something alone or do you want to get done with examining Astrid?" Rafael asked.
"But first, tell me what happened to her." Eva recalled why she had come to the room hurriedly in the first place.
"Nothing; we're just having a new family member," Rafael exclaimed cheerfully.
Eva took a while to grasp what Rafael meant, but when she did, she shrieked with delight.
"We are going to have a mini of you and Astrid." She leaped up and down, hugging Rafael and then Astrid.
After she finished congratulating them, she stepped outside, and Charles followed. He was overjoyed that their King and Queen were going to welcome a new family member.
He followed Eva nervously. He continued fumbling with his shirt sleeve. He had no idea what he was going to say. He, like Eva, was bashful. He had no prior dating experience. He never spoke to a woman unless it was for work. Many people wanted to fling themselves at him since he had attractive facial characteristics, but he ignored them. He intended to save himself for his mate, but he didn't expect to find her so quickly. He was just twenty-five years old, which was a young age for vampires to find mates.
He followed her to her room, and Eva shut the door to avoid any disruption between them.
"Hey," Eva murmured timidly.
"Hey," Charles responded affectionately as well.
He reasoned that informing Eva about himself would alleviate the uneasiness between them. "My name is Charles Black, and I'm a doctor." He was at a loss for words.
One thing led to another, and they disclosed everything to each other, including Eva's half-angel status.
"Wow, I'm so blessed to have you," Charles said quietly.
Their vampire sides soon took over, and they had their first kiss.
Eva began telling Charles about Elliot and how he hated his own children. She had no idea Elliot was the one who had killed Fiona. Rafael reasoned that keeping the facts from her would be best.
"So his highness, Rafael, was in charge of looking after you?" Charles inquired.
"You do not need to be that formal. I'm sure Rafael wouldn't object if you addressed him by his full title." Eva laughed.
"No, I don't want to offend our king. His aura is incredibly powerful, and I don't want to get into his bad side." Charles moved his head.
Charles went on to describe how his mother was a werewolf and the daughter of a werewolf pack's alpha, which explains why his aura was so powerful. They were having their never-ending chat when the knock rang.
"I suppose that was enough time for you two to converse," Rafael said as he entered the room. "Now, if you could perhaps assist me in examining my mate," Rafael said quietly.
He had acquired all of the information he required about him and was relieved to discover his résumé clean. Nonetheless, he attempted to read his mind, which just demonstrated what a decent guy Charles is.
"Certainly, your highness," he stammered.
"You are now a family. You may address me by name." Rafael embraced him.
Rafael was overjoyed that he had found a suitable match for Eva, or he was worried that she would wind up with someone like her father.
"Thank you very much, Ra-Rafael." He s,miled.
"Now come on, check on my mate, and give us the do's and don'ts." Rafael tapped him on the back and motioned for him to follow him to their room.
Rafael approached Eva after Charles had left, and she blushed and turned away from him.
"Are you happy, baby?" Rafael inquired.
Eva nodded, her cheerful demeanor fading. Instead, she was shy, which Rafael hadn't seen before.
"I'm 'happy for you as well; come on, let's go meet your sister-in-law first, and then we'll all ponder and speak about it." Rafael returned to his chamber, taking Eva's hand in his.
When Charles entered the chamber, he was struck by a powerful aura. He felt compelled to bow to whatever was putting pressure on him. He turned in Astrid's direction and realized the aura belonged to her. Scarlet was pushing Charles' wolf to succumb to her wolf.
Astrid was completely unaware of what was going on around her; she was preoccupied with the design of the tree house she had selected from the file.
Charles' eyes widened as he realized what was going on. He'd learned a lot about people, and, being from an Alpha lineage, he was never afraid of anybody. He realized that it was not simply Rafael's aura that had been mixed with Astrid's.
"Are you a Lycan?" Charles asked, kneeling and bowing his head in submission.
For a moment, Astrid was shocked, but when she saw Charles' gesture, she rolled her eyes.
"Oh, come on, you know you don't have to do that," Astrid admonished, "and if Rafael hasn't informed you yet, let me tell you that you are a family and you are meant to call me by name, alright?" Astrid reprimanded.
Rafael entered the room just as Charles was about to finish his examination of Astrid.
"Is everything okay?" Rafael inquired as he entered.
"Nothing to worry about; we just want to take her to the hospital for some lab testing, which can be done if we don't have a hospital facility here," Charles said.
"No, we don't have a hospital here," Astrid said.
"There was never a need because vampires don't get sick." Rafael shook his head.
"Don't worry, you can bring her into my hospital whenever you need to," Charles said. "Returning to Astrid, her pregnancy is expected to last four months at most, and by that time, I will have everything ready for you. She's expected to be wary. I'm not saying she shouldn't get out of bed or skip work. I just mean that she should not transform into her Lycan form until after delivery. She can undoubtedly manage her feral side, but she can also physically alter how it manifests itself, even for the other werewolves. I warned her not to transform into her Lycan form. We must not allow it to injure her body" Charles stated, but Scarlet had already informed Astrid, and both Astrid and Scarlet were fine with the concept.
"Oh, I understand; I wasn't planning to let her accomplish anything substantial either." Rafael sighed and rolled his eyes.
Astrid's face sank, but Charles interfered again before she could shout at Rafael.
"You should not do it. We must recognize that Astrid is not a human and that our bodies are not made to remain idle. Nothing is more dangerous than doing nothing; thus, it can only be beneficial if she keeps herself occupied." Standing up from his chair, Charles said:.
Rafael groaned defeatedly, but Astrid was dancing in her mind. "You are without a doubt the best doctor," Astrid said with a smile.
"Is that it?" Rafael inquired.
"That's all for now." Charles began to pack his belongings. "Could I please ask you for something now?" They went downstairs and sat on the sofa.
Rafael urged him to keep going. At first, Charles sought Rafael's permission to take Eva with him, but Rafael became enraged and demanded that Charles either shift with them or wait until he was ready to send Eva with him after consulting with his parents, but Astrid was quick to knock some sense into his skull. Astrid convinced Rafael that they were mates and would feel the urge to be close to each other, so it was best if they sent them.
Rafael considered it and requested Charles get his parents, and then, after consulting with them, he would send Eva and Charles to the rite that would connect Eva and Charles.
Charles made a commitment and then left.
"Is she going to leave us now?" Rafael became emotional. He never imagined that he would have to send Eva away from him, but now he had no choice. He would have postponed everything, but he was well aware of the concept that mates appear only at the right time, and maybe Eva and Charles needed each other the most at the time, and so he didn't want to act as a hindrance between them and let an important part of his life go away from him, even though he would meet her anytime; after all, the coven was his too, but then too, not seeing Eva bothered him, troubling him that he had grown accustomed to and he couldn't distance from Eva
While they all had their moments, someone's rage crossed the line.
"What do you mean she is pregnant?" In the total darkness, a deep, furious voice resonated. "She can't be. You know that baby would be the end of us, right?"
"I don't know. I just told you what I heard." A trembling voice responded.
"You are completely useless. You're all worthless She is a Lycan, and her child will be the end of us. We must eliminate Astrid and the baby." The anxious voice began babbling.
"Relax, buddy, we've got this pregnant thing going for us. It indicates she can't shift, allowing us to quickly attack them. Don't worry, I have a plan, and I am confident that either we will win or Astrid will die." Another voice came from the shadows with a wicked chuckle.
"How do you know that?"
"Believe me, friend, I know everything," the first voice said. He grinned.

**I have five more chapters ready, and I am going to update them at some intervals after revising them. Anyway, I got over with my exam, and I expected to see some comments and ratings on the main page, I requested you all 10 comments on the main page and anticipated for them but guess it didn't work out. I asked them in the first place only because I desperately want to make this book successful and readers would see the book review before proceeding, I guess I should stand by my decision to quit. Thank you, and this is the last author's note maybe we could have one in the end, and that's it.**
