Chapter 15
Althea was busy trying to get used to the phone he bought for her, the person helping her made it easier for her that when they were done she knew the basic things she can use the phone for. She knew how to type on the computer. She sighed tiredly when she finished taking the day's lecture.
The maid was there making everything go smoothly, she was overwhelmed with joy at getting the chance to use the phone and laptop.
"You can leave it's enough for today," Xavier said coldly which sent chills of fear down the spine of the maids immediately after he entered the room. He just ruined her excitement. Why would he be such a joy killer?
"Good evening," she greeted and he ignored her with his gaze on his phone. He sat on the bed with his gaze still connected to his phone, she didn't know what he was doing on the phone but she didn't talk. She bit her lips angrily, knowing this is exactly what he did when they first met. She folded her fist angrily but it soon changed to a smile when she remembered that he just bought her a phone and a laptop which she has always wished for. She picked up the phone trying to remember the lessons she was taught.
"Thanks for the gift," she said after a while dripping the device on the bed and he ignored her again. What was she expecting when she thanked him, she knew he would not reply to her. The room was soon engulfed with silence as they both go about doing things on their phone.
Xavier decided to break the silence by clearing his throat, she turned to look at him. She focused all her attention on him and he started talking when he saw he had gained her attention.
"The reason why I bought you the phone is that I will be travelling on a business trip to France in a few days, and you will be alone, the phone is our means of communication," He said with a dramatic pause, and she stared at him in shock.
"The laptop is to keep you busy," he added and she nodded meekly.
"Thanks for the laptop and phone once again" she replied and he only nodded. They both go back to what they were doing before and Althea was busy trying to get acquainted with the laptop.
A knock resounded on the door breaking the silence in the room, they both removed their gaze from the phone at the same time while glancing at the door.
"What do you want?" Xavier asked coldly while staring at the door, his gaze peering into the door like it could borehole in the door. His cold demeanour got the maid at the door so scared that he shivered slightly when she heard his voice.
"I'm here to tell you that dinner is ready," the maid said with her voice shivering with fear hitched in her voice.
"You can go," he replied and he stood up. Althea followed suit and they both walked out of the room. They entered the dining room and took their seats.
After a while of sitting down, the maids served their food and they ate, soon they were both done with their food but they sat there in silence trying to make their food digest.
"Xavier," Althea called, not sure if he would reply to him, and he did. She thanked her stars for making his reply.
"Hmm," he replied, removing his gaze from the screen of his phone. Althea has always wondered if he never gets tired of staring at the screen of his phone.
"I have never had to see the outside world. I have been locked in the house my whole life and was not allowed to see the outside world. I never knew what it was in Mexico until I was brought here, the downtown of New York was noisy when I got here with my aunt" Althea explained and he sighed tiredly knowing what she was trying to say.
"I will get you a driver who will take you around New York tomorrow," Xavier said and she nodded happily with a delightful smile on his face.
"Thank you," she said and he nodded in return.
"What do you do for a living" Elena questioned, his face hardened with a frown.
"I do business, I'm a businessman" he replied plainly and she sighed heavily knowing he is not interested in the talk. She knew it was all a lie but she said nothing.
After a while, they both went to their room, and they retired to bed. They slept off, and they snuggled closer to themselves. Xavier was the first to wake up and he did due to the sound of his phone ringing, and he hissed angrily when he saw how close they were and he pushed her away angrily. He stood up from the bed and took his phone which was laying on the nightstand. He was not expecting anyone's call at that moment, and he was angry at the call for disrupting his sleep. He looked at the screen of his phone, and he gasped immediately when he saw the caller. He stood erect while staring out through the window, he placed the phone on his ear after he swiped the green button.
"Hello, good morning Dad" he greeted the caller with a frown on his face, and the caller chuckled at the tone he used.
"I want to inform you that the trip you are going to has been postponed to today," The caller said, and his eyes went round in shock.
"But dad, you said in a few days why it shifted" he questioned and the caller groaned angrily.
"Don't question me, and do what I asked you to do. My guards are in the mansion ready for the trip, and don't keep me waiting." The caller disconnected the call, and he folded his fist angrily as walked toward the bathroom with a frown on his face. He hates the fact that his dad will do something without informing him earlier, he would have woken up early to prepare for the trip but he didn't and wants him to get ready.
He brushed his teeth and did his morning business. He bathed and walked out of the bathroom with a towel tied to his waist. He walked directly into the closet and wore his clothes, he simply wore a casual dress.
He walked into the dining room and had his breakfast, then proceeded toward the garage. He met the guards who were assigned to follow him, and they bowed their heads when they saw him advancing toward them.
"Good morning, young master" they greeted but he ignored their greetings which had been a normal routine for them. He always ignored their greetings and today is no exemption. One of them opened the door, and he entered with his hand as cold as stone. The guards also entered a car, and they drove off.
.
Althea woke up late, and she used her hand to search for Xavier but she was shocked because he was not there. The bed looks cold and it seems he has been left for a long time now. She frowned her face immediately when she discovered that. Where could he have gone to, she thought as she stood up from the bed removing the duvet which was wrapped around her waist. She wore her flip-flops which were beside the bed. She walked out of the room intending to look for him.
She looked for him in the dining room, and she sighted a maid who was arranging the table. She walked up to the maid carefully, and she touched the maid. The maid's body shook with terror immediately she felt a hand on her shoulder. The maid sighed heavily when she looked back and found out that it was Althea.
"Good morning, ma'am. You scared me," the maid said, rolling her eyes at the maid who chuckled silently.
"Why are you afraid?" Althea questioned even though she knew the answer but she wanted to hear it from her.
"Ohh, it's nothing ma'am" the maid replied, and she nodded.
"Where is Xavier?" She questioned while staring at the maid, and the maid bowed her head when their gaze connected.
"Our Young Master has gone on a business trip," the maid said, and she looked at her with widened eyes. Her mouth was agape in surprise, she was not expecting the trip to be soon. He said it was for a few days, and now he left even without informing her.
Xavier is nowhere to be found. She asks the maids and they tell her that he has gone on his trip to France already. He should have informed her earlier but he didn't. He told her that the trip is in a few days, and he went today. He didn't care about her opinion. Why will he care for her though she thought and shrugged it off?
