Chapter 31
Mateo woke up from his slumber as his phone blared out, ringing out loudly to his ears. He closed his ears with a pillow trying to catch a sleep. It seems the person calling had to disturb his sleep. Since he couldn't hold the house anymore, he groaned out tiredly and switched on the lights in his room. He lifted his body a bit and reached for the phone on the wooden stool beside the bed. He swiped the open icon but the call had ended. He went through the recent number and contact that had called him. He had to discover that it was one of his friends at school. They were really close but they weren't living in the same country. His friend would have come to his step brother's house with his friend but his friend's country was really far from New York City. He called the line of his friend, and placed it on speaker. He doesn't know or have an idea why his friend is calling.
His friend picked at the first ring like he was expecting his call. His friend's voice seemed to be excited and good from the other side of the phone.
"Good morning man. What's up where have you been? I have been calling your line but you didn't pick up. Maybe you are busy or literally ignoring my call,"Samuel said from the other side of the phone. Mateo let out a soft chuckle which Samuel heard clearly.
"Yes. I'm sorry for not picking your call. It wasn't intentional. I was having a nap while you were calling,"he said, and his friend laughed at him from the other side of the phone.
"Wait. Did you just say nap? Or are my ears deceiving me right now?"Samuel asked, and he rolled his eyes like his friends would see him. He doesn't know why Samuel is surprised.
"Yes. What's wrong about it? I was tired a few minutes ago and I had to take a nap. What's up with that fuss?"Mateo said, and Samuel arch his brow confusedly. He couldn't believe that Mateo was having a nap while the summer break was over. He had been expecting Mateo to resume school but he hadn't seen him that was why he called.
"What do you mean, Matty? I don't really understand you. I mean the school summer break had been over for that past three days and I haven't seen you. What's happening? Let me know because the lecture had begun,"Samuel asked, and Mateo ruffled his hair angrily. It was right, he should have been to school but he doesn't feel like leaving. It like his soul has been entangled with her. He can't afford to leave her. His soul seems to be tangled with her. If he leaves her, his mind wouldn't be at rest. It seems he had grown fond of her and that he had to do almost everything in that house with her.
"I have some certain issues but with time I will be able to pull through. Don't worry about me, I will be back to school very soon. I can't wait to see you all,"he said, emphasizing his last statement even though he isn't sure if he is going to resume school anytime soon.
"Would you like to share the problem with me?"Samuel asked but he didn't reply. He doesn't know what would be his reaction if he tells him. He doesn't want to be questioned again like Frank had done to him a few days ago.
"Okay no problem if you don't mind sharing it with me. But please come to school as soon as possible. We are missing you,"Samuel said, and he let out a chuckle.
"Okay thanks for your concern. I will make sure I'm in school in the next few days. Don't worry about me. Don't think of me so much,"he said, and his friend laughed at the other side of the phone.
"Okay sir. But don't be too full of yourself. Till we meet,"Samuel said with laughter echoing from the background. Mateo shook his head with a sigh and hung up on the call. He roughed his hair in frustration. He doesn't want to return to college anymore, he doesn't want to continue his education. He doesn't want anything but his step brother's wife Althea.
Though she hates to admit that she is her step brother's wife. It was painful and hurt him in his heart. He just wishes he could do something about it. But it seems he couldn't do anything about it. It seems his hand is stranded. He loves her, her voice, her perfect shapes and curves, and everything about her. He just can't afford to leave her to school. He wouldn't concentrate anymore because it seems his heart had been stolen by Althea. He is so much in love with her but she doesn't have that feeling for him, that feeling is eating him up and there isn't anything he could do about it. He hates the fact that he is helpless.
He walked into the bathroom naked. He brush his teeth and took a cool bath. He dressed up in a black tuxedo suit and a black jean. He is going to his father office. He wants to make his decision known to his father again. He had concluded on quitting the school to focus on pursuing his father's business since if he is done with college, he would focus on his father. He had made his decision and nobody would stop him. He loves his step brother wife, Althea and hope she would love him back very soon. His sole purpose is to impress Althea and take her to himself. He is sure with time that she is going to become his wife not her step brother owns. He doesn't believe that his step brother Xavier deserve her.
He walked out of his room, and descended the stairs. He was glad that nobody was in the room. He doesn't want Althea to disturb him with her question. He walked out of the guest room with a car key. He pressed the green button on the car key, and the red wine lexus car made a beep sound. He opened the car, and entered the car before driving out of the mansion compounds.

Mateo and his father could be seen in a wide and spacious office. It had a nice interior design in it which brings out the description of the Mafia even though Mateo couldn't understand it. Mateo bowed his head a little as he greeted his father.
"Morning son. What brought you to my office? You should have been in college. I heard the summer break is over,"his father said with his hand on his chin. He was staring at his son with a dark sinister look. Mateo shook his head with a sigh. His father knows why he is here because he had discussed it with him, and he is not going to stop discussing it.
"Dad, you should have known why I'm here. It is about our last unfinished statement,"Mateo said but his father beat him to it with his cold and stoic expression. He is used to it anyway.
"Okay. I want to quit school and focus on your business. I want to make you proud,"Mateo said but Andrew wasn't happy with his son.
"Mateo, you are really serious about this thing,"he said, and Mateo said in his head.
"Yes dad. I'm serious about it. Don't turn my request down,"he said, staring at his father with a pleading look but his father wasn't pleased.
"Have you gone nuts or crazy, huh? I don't care for whatever reason you have. There is one year remaining. Finish your study and then you can focus on my business,"his father said, and returned his gaze to a file on his table. He was signing a Mafia business deal. Mateo was clearly angry by his father's attitude but he had to compose himself. He doesn't want to get to the bad side of his father.
He pleaded with Andrew and his father reluctantly agreed. He also had his reason. Maybe he might be more useful in his Mafia business. It would take his Mafia business to a higher height.
The past few weeks, he had been quite curious about their marriage and though Althea had been quite secretive, he noticed the strained relationship between them both when Xavier called and Althea had never for once picked up her phone to call him. He also noticed it in the way she avoided conversation relating to him.
This way, he felt that his chances of making her become his was very great.
On the day he had told Althea he was going to return to college, he stayed home and Althea was surprised to see him still around for dinner and when she asked him why, he just shrugged and told her that he had changed plans.
Althea expressed her happiness over him changing his mind. She didn't know how she was going to cope without him being around.
When he mentions Xavier's name, she keeps quiet.
