Have you ever heard about mates?

As time went by, Seth noticed how she and Luciano didn't leave the bedroom unless they needed to use the bathroom or take a shower.

Even a simple thing such as showering ended with them, having sex in the most unimaginable positions. He didn't lie when he spoke about Seth supposedly belonging in his bed - she barely left it.

They spent the whole Saturday in each other's arms, forgetting about food or any responsibilities one might have.

However, when Seth woke up on Sunday, she couldn't find Luciano in the bedroom or bathroom. She got out of the bed, biting onto her lower lip to avoid screaming in pain.

So much for having a high sexual drive - she wanted more even when it hurt. On top of that, Luciano didn't lie the moment when he mentioned she would remember the things they did with each step she took.

Seth left the bedroom, holding hands over her lower abdomen as if that would help her get rid of the pain. She slowly walked around the main rooms where Luciano might be, but the Alpha was nowhere to be seen.

Finally, she entered the kitchen and found a note on the kitchen counter.

*“Kitten, I had to leave to deal with some business with the Council members. I might be back around noon or late evening depending on how many deals we need to discuss. Feel free to use the house to your liking, but don't forget to get some food, for all I care - order it. Drink more water, you have to stay hydrated. I was hoping you wouldn't fall asleep before I arrived, though; I'll want my dinner hot, served right in bed ;) Love, daddy xxx”*

Seth chuckled as she read the note, still feeling quite conflicted about the whole daddy thing.
It did make her cringe, but while they had sex - calling Luciano 'daddy' turned her on.

She approached the refrigerator, grabbed some fruits, and sat down, thinking if she enjoyed being around the man that much. At times, she did - Luciano was dominant and possessive, but he still cared about her more than anyone else before.

Then again, she was in torturous pain after one night together; thinking if anything would change anytime soon terrified Seth. How could she work and do everyday things if walking around the house put her in such pain?

“I should leave,” Seth whispered under her breath.

She threw the remains of her food in the trash and attempted to run upstairs. She had to take a shower and wear her clothing to get rid of Luciano's scent.

Deep down, Seth knew that running wouldn't be the right answer forever, but she needed to rest. Some time away from Alphas, perhaps some lies to the Council members to get rid of her job for a while, and time for herself.

When she came downstairs, she instantly approached the main door but froze when her hand caught the door handle. The whole idea about leaving suddenly felt so wrong, especially with Luciano in mind.

Even though he was an animal - he still tried his best for her, being as gentle and caring as he could.

“Is this really what I want, or something I taught myself to do whenever things get difficult or slightly uncomfortable?” Seth questioned herself out loud.

It wasn't a great technique to eliminate doubt, but it was a great way to force her to stop herself and think a little more before taking action.

It was something Anton used to do, and in time, Seth took over his habit, seeing that it was the best way to avoid making mistakes. No matter how much effort she put into thinking about the situation - even the smallest things still didn't make sense.

*“I think we should leave. Not only the house - ditch it all,”* out of nowhere, her cat spoke up, as always when her opinion wouldn't be quite relevant.

Whenever Seth needed her cat side, she sat behind a wall, hiding and showed up whenever she wasn’t needed.

*“Well, welcome aboard; hope you'll enjoy this because it's about to be one hell of a crazy ride.”* Seth spat, her answer dripped in sarcasm.

At times their relationship was way too weird - the animal side managed to avoid any other, severe situation and pop up uninvited.

*“I'm scared, alright?”* The answer nearly made Seth lose her balance on the spot.

Her eyes widened in surprise. Was there really an actual reason for her to be scared, or was it a cheap trick to get rid of any responsibility?

*“What do you mean by scared? Is there something we should fear, perhaps something you forgot to tell me?”* Seth let go of the door handle and turned around, leaning her back against the door.

Like any other shifter, she couldn't understand her inner self since they were the same person and their own person at the same time. Having that voice inside her head was pretty close to an unwanted roommate - some days were better if the voice didn't appear, and some were made better by the same voice.

Seth would never give up on her cat, but sometimes she couldn't help it and admire humans for how easy it seemed for them.

*“I'm scared of the wolf - Demon,”* as the cat spoke, her voice trembled.

Seth suddenly felt a wave of cold shivers running down her spine, feeling the little bit of fear her inner self shared. At least she made sure that there had to be a reason for such feelings because the cat couldn't fake things like that.

*“Explain,”* Seth sighed, letting her body slide down the door. Her ass collided with the floor, reminding the body language of someone close to metal breakdown.

*“He broke down the wall yesterday when you were asleep and demanded to talk. I swear he is a scary, dangerous creature. If I thought that father is a monster beyond limits, Demon is way worse.”*

She couldn't explain what the thing she felt was anymore. Her cat suddenly spoke in a mere whisper, as if she was scared of someone who might listen.

Besides Seth, nobody would hear her words, but it was still way too suspicious. What made everything even worse was the shivers running down Seth's spine all this time - they turned colder within each word of her cat.

*“I want to know,”* Seth grabbed the sides of her head and brought her face down, staring at the floor.

Her life had turned upside down, and there wasn't a day when she didn't face another surprise or challenge. Since the day when she agreed to work in the territory - it was a rollercoaster of events.

Seth might try to say that this was her downfall, but she understood that she had a lot of beautiful moments there as well. She had learned a lot, managed to get over many fears, and even educated herself about topics that seemed foreign.

Perhaps she was trying to come up with another set of excuses, to talk herself into liking the place, but some of those things were as true as nothing else.

*“You need to understand that we have to run - leave as far as we can, dig as deep as possible to make sure he won't find us. Seth, I don't waste energy to reach out for you if it isn't important; you know that. I will do anything to protect you, even at times when you won't believe me.”* The cat was persistent yet still avoided giving out more information.

What might be that bad to hide it from her? If there was anything to hide in the first place.

Doubts filled Seth's mind - ones who state the truth wouldn't hide details, and her cat wasn't one to avoid explanations either. Something fishy was going on, and Seth would find out what it was even if that's the last thing she managed to do.

*“Then don't waste your energy on talking in riddles and explain, God, damn it! I'm so done with everyone thinking that I am a child that has to be protected from the outside world! I am a grown woman, one who is capable of making her own decisions. For fuck's sake, just speak up, please!”* At this point, Seth grabbed fistfuls of her hair and tugged on it.

Her mind was going crazy with the worst scenarios - the lips she kissed a few hours ago might be ones covered in blood.

The arms that held her and made her feel so safe might have held someone against their will, doing the worst things imaginable. If Seth had an enemy worse than her father, it was her mind.

*“Have you ever heard about werewolf mates and what happened to wolves whose mates tried to escape?”* Seth had a feeling that she was about to involve herself in a weird history class, but she didn't mind. If the cat brought up such a topic, it had to be relevant to the whole mess she got them in.

*“No, I don't think so.”*

It took a while for her to rethink the history classes she took in school. Most of the things they had to learn about were somewhat connected to pumas. Not many teachers agreed that it was important for the younger generation to know more about species outside their territory.

Seth was curious about many things; at some point, she was obsessed with vampires, but for as long as she lived under her father's roof - she had no right to learn more. After leaving home, she dedicated herself to work and getting on her feet instead of gaining more knowledge. Seth was sure that it was one of her biggest mistakes - she genuinely felt regret for things she had missed.

*“Well, a long time ago, each werewolf had a destined soulmate. Technically, there was the perfect half for every wolf out there, and they would meet this special someone after reaching a certain age. For as much I got to find out. First, it was sixteen, then eighteen, and after that, the soulmates became more rare. The wolves had no idea what was happening, but it turned out that their Goddess was dying, and she was so dedicated to giving her children the love of their life - she forgot about herself. There wasn't anyone to take her place, and only a blood relative ever could, but that obviously didn't happen.”*

*“So, the longer wolves had to wait till someone appeared, the faster they became insanely possessive. Some of them forgot that mate was a gift rather than someone to use as you please. Many wolves were cruel and abusive, making their mates try to run away. Well, this is where the mate bond comes into the story - a powerful, nearly indestructible invisible thing that connected the wolves.”*

*“It was said that even if the wolf was rejected, they would still feel the remains of the bond. If one died - the other did soon after, there was no way they could live without each other after their lives collided. So, back to the story. Well, so many wolves became abusive, and their mates tried to escape - most failed. The abusive partner would rather die than let go of their other half, even if they knew that the mate lived in pain and misery.”*

*“They hunt down those mates, believe it or not - many other wolves helped them find the runners faster. Getting caught was terrible, but not getting caught on time was even worse. The wolves went berserk without their mates, turning their journey into a killing spree. They killed everyone on their way, and if the wolf didn't die before reaching their mate - they killed them too. You're probably wondering why I'm explaining all of this if it seems nowhere near our current situation. You wouldn't believe how important this bit of information actually is, Seth. Demon demanded that we stay by his side - forever.”*

*“He is planning awful things; I can feel it. Remember that wolves are somewhat similar to us - they too have two personas in one body, both with different views, thoughts, opinions, and characters. He told me that some wolves still feel the magical pull, not as strong, but still. It has to be an extraordinary person, and he thinks that Luciano feels the same thing as he does. If we don't leave now, we won't ever leave. You don't know a thing about that man, please, just take a little time and think about what I said.”*

Seth could feel how the cat's voice faded in the distance as her last plea left her lips. The poor thing wasted all energy she had to tell Seth the craziest story ever, managing to warn her about some more essential details.

Seth got back on her feet and silently eyed the huge living room. Her eyes scanned the empty photo frames and the neat setting all around her.

Truth to be told - Seth knew basically nothing about Luciano. This was a house he would live in for a while; soon enough, he would leave this place to go back home. She had no idea where his home was, if he had a family, and what the Alpha did, besides running around in a police uniform.

She couldn't recall if she ever questioned Luciano about whether he was single or wasn't.

Perhaps he had a wife and children back home, and she was nothing but a side piece for the said time. Seth might have become a homewrecker without her knowledge.

She struggled to accept many things, her own nature including. How could she be such an idiot to avoid questioning the man she slept with about such important things?

Then, out of nowhere, a thought invaded her mind - perhaps she really had to leave.

The Alpha and Seth shared a roof over their heads, bedroom, bed, and food on their plates.

All they did was keep having sex over and over again, forgetting themselves in wild sensations. However, every minute that they didn't make out or fuck was spent by them arguing about anything.

Everything started with small things and grew into full-blown problems, somehow ending with the best makeup sex Seth had ever had. Once again, her eyes widened - no wonder the cat mentioned leaving.

Seth and Luciano acted like a real couple, having an actual relationship, and if she wouldn't go before any of them fell - she wouldn't have a chance to set herself free.

“Holy shit!” Seth cursed under her breath, turned around, and pulled the door open.

She made sure that the Alpha was nowhere near and bolted into the forest. Even though running hurt her - she didn't mind for as long as she managed to increase the distance between them.

When Seth reached her cabin, the first thing she did was call a Council member. She pretended that she had a fever and asked if she could have at least one day off.

When the elder questioned her if she still wanted to look after Alpha Vincent, she declined the offer with a heavy sigh.

Of course, he was confused, but Seth was prepared. She muttered a few simple words: “the Alpha caught me having a shower. I know that I promised to be careful, but it was the middle of the night, and I didn't assume he would come close. He knows that I am a woman, that might bring up more problems than him, living alone.”

Thankfully, he understood everything and dismissed Seth from her extra duties. After the phone call, she closed all the windows, locked every door, and threw her body onto the sofa.

Within a few minutes, she felt how her eyelids grew heavier, nearly falling asleep. Seth sighed in content and closed her eyes voluntarily, giving in to the well-deserved need to rest.

However, the joy was short-lived; not even a minute later, Seth was startled by someone aggressively banging their fist against her front door.
