Find a way to bring him back from the dead.
Dominic was the first one to find the cave that could serve as a shelter. He struggled to keep track of how many miles he had to run, but at this point, it seemed that he was at the right place.
Entering the dark cave, he was met with an intense stench of fresh blood, and soon enough, his eyes fell upon Luciano, laying in a pool of his own blood.
Dominic didn't waste more time; he called out for Ryder and Vlad, announcing that he would shift and run back to the faes with Luciano on his back before it was too late.
Both men instantly agreed to help, supporting the large man and sacrificing their clothing to tie him to the back of Dominic's wolf. They couldn't allow any more damage to his body, so everyone had to be extra careful, but most of all, the one who would carry the King back.
If the time he spent running to his friend seemed as if it faded without a trace, their way back felt like an eternity.
All Dominic could think of was if his friend would make it. Luciano was strong, but it was apparent how beaten up he was, and the unbelievable amount of blood he had lost wouldn't help his case. As if followed by shadows of the past, Dominic forced himself to run faster, dreading that he could waste that one minute that could save his friend.
Thankfully, by the time he reached the fae territory, the mothers stood by the hospital, eagerly waiting for the men to arrive.
Terror and shock were evident on their faces as soon as their eyes fell upon Luciano, but the women masked it skillfully. Eager to help, the mothers encouraged Dominic to enter the hospital in his wolf form - there was no time they could lose.
When the King was finally brought to the surgery room, everyone fell silent, carefully cutting the countless knots that held him tightly pressed against the wolf's back.
“You did a great job, trust me. Those clothes saved his life - they held him close and stopped the blood flow, so he didn't lose a lethal amount. Another hour and he would be gone, you got there right on time,” one of the healers explained.
The woman was young, but her movements were more professional than some Dominic had seen of the doctors back in the palace. Perhaps if he brought Seth here, she would wake up sooner.
Signing, the wolf left the building, facing his allies and nodding at them. The men couldn't shift in the center of attention, mainly because none had a piece of clothing left.
A young boy approached them, asking if he could touch their fur since it was the first time he had met a real werewolf. His naive nature distracted the three Alphas from what was going on inside the hospital.
All at once, they nodded their heads, letting the little boy closer. To say that he took his time was an understatement - the boy wouldn't take his hands off their fur and would keep mumbling about how amazing it had to be to shift into an animal.
After a while, he stepped away, eyeing the three enormous wolves in front of him: “Why won't you change back to human?” The boy's curiosity took the best of him, seamlessly throwing questions at the mighty creatures.
Dominic chuckled, yet the sound reminded more of a growl. He tried to nod towards the boys' clothing, implying that they didn't have anything to wear.
Surprisingly, the little lad instantly caught on to whatever the wolf was trying to say and smiled. “You wouldn't believe it, but my dad is a pretty big man. Come on, let's go; I'm sure mommy will help you guys and give you some of my dad's old clothing. She keeps storing it as if someone might end up needing those. Pretty sure all of you are in big need of pants,” the boy was hilarious yet really friendly.
He had no idea whom he faced, yet it wasn't an obstacle to help the strangers. That was one of the most significant differences between them - a wolf would think twice to help someone, but a fae wouldn't think at all.
In a heartbeat, the magical creatures were there for everyone who was in genuine need. Dominic made a mental note to thank the boy after he shifted and offer his family some help. The Alpha wouldn't let the act of kindness unnoticed.
As the three wolves followed the boy, he marched towards with his head held high. Of course, the small boy could feel somewhat powerful when such enormous creatures walked behind him, like a wall that would protect him under any circumstances. Reaching his home, the boy yelled for his mom to come out and meet his new friends.
At first, the woman gasped as her eyes met one of the wolves, but seeing how happy her son was, the woman smiled and slightly bowed to the wolf shifters.
“Welcome, werewolves. Thank you for walking my boy home; he tends to get in trouble quite often. I'm happy to see that the scenario didn't repeat itself for once.” The woman was stunning; the resemblance between her and the little boy seemed to be unbelievable.
Dominic, Vlad, and Ryder caught each other on the same thought - if they ever had children with Seth, would they look like her or themselves? Any other wolf would grow jealous and restless, but the three Alphas already accepted each other, so the wolves grinned, sharing the same beautiful thought.
“Mommy, these wolves can not turn back to humans because they don't have clothes to wear. Daddy is quite big, so maybe you can give them some of his old clothes?” The boy brought up the issue without thinking, bringing the Alphas out of their thoughts.
The woman smiled at her son's kind nature and the attempt to help others. As soon as her lips parted, probably to reply, her voice was silenced with one of a man. Just like the boy said, his father was quite large, close to a grown Alpha male.
He cleared his throat, threw an arm around her shoulder, and lovingly pulled her in. “We would be honored to help out Alpha Dominic; after all, he is a part of the family. Darling, remember the wolf who saved our healer Lucinda? That's him, the one in the middle.” The man proudly stated.
It was pretty weird to see how the woman teared up, got out of her husband's hold, and ran towards the Alpha, throwing her hands around his neck. She wouldn't stop sobbing and whispering “thank you” over and over again.
All three of the men kept exchanging confused looks until the boy's father spoke up again: “Lucinda is a very talented healer; she developed medicine to save our boy's life. Therefore, we partly owe you our lives. If you hadn't saved that little crackhead, we wouldn't have our son by our side. Excuse my wife; she's a little emotional. She's been waiting for your arrival for a while now. Both of us did; we wanted to thank you in person for having compassion for one of us and taking care of her and making sure that she follows her dreams. Without you, we wouldn't have all of that. Please, give me a moment to look for some clothes, and we would like to invite all of you over for lunch. Please, don't refuse the offer, who knows when the next time might be,” the man smiled, winking at his son to follow, and disappeared inside his house.
Only now, Dominic had a chance to take in how significant an effect one of his actions might leave on others. He thought that he saved one fae, made sure that she was okay, and kept looking after her whenever possible.
However, there was a bigger picture to paint - his action saved lives after he saved one. It was no wonder that so many faes around there were happy to see him around and even offered to take Luciano in.
The feeling attacking his heart was overwhelming; this was the first time ever when the Alpha felt his actions genuinely matter to others. Dominic didn't have much time to swoon over his thoughts as the man appeared in the door frame and brought three piles of clothing with him.
He carefully approached the massive wolves and set clothes in front of them, nodding his head towards the forest line, well aware that the Alphas will seek some privacy.
Even though wolves were comfortable with their bodies, especially before and after shifting, it was rare for them to shift in front of strangers. The three Alphas grabbed the clothing with their teeth and bolted towards the trees, returning within minutes.
All men walked back bare-chested, even though the fae male was quite large - his shirts still ended up too small, so the Alphas brought them back, avoiding tearing the clothing apart. Just like the little boy laughed before, the men walked around in nothing but pants.
“Thank you,” Dominic looked at the small family, an ear-to-ear smile spreading on his lips. “You already know me; these are my friends- Ryder and Vlad. We will spend some time around here; the King was brought to your hospital, so we can't leave until we're absolutely sure that he is alright,” Dominic explained.
They watched how the little boy started jumping up and down, clapping his small hands. Everyone laughed at his free expression of happiness, swooning over the little bundle of joy.
“My name is Sapphire, this is my husband Vincent, and our little boy here is Leo. We are truly sorry to hear that something had happened to your King. There is no need to explain more; we understand that some things are better left unspoken. If there is anything we can do to help, just let us know,” the woman joined their conversation, quickly running behind the Alphas and doing her best to make them move towards the house. “I won't forgive myself if you leave before any of you get to try my pudding. It's to die for, I promise. Besides, I've been trying out new recipes today, and we have more than plenty of food ready to be served. I might overreact a little, but I'm sure that I could feed a small pack of wolves today,” Sapphire laughed, eagerly pushing the men to get them inside.
Poor Vincent kept sending looks of pity towards the Alphas, feeling sorry for her wife's behavior. She was a truly generous woman, yet sometimes there was too much of her than one would need.
Despite the doubt and their differences, the faes and wolf shifters shared a table, discussing some things happening around and spending quality time together. At one point, Ryder started wondering how it was possible for him to feel at home at the place where he wasn't supposed to belong. All of them would gladly come back to visit the family if they ever wanted to see the Alphas again.
“Leo, darling, can you run to the hospital and see how they are doing there? We are quite far from the main buildings so the news wouldn't arrive fast enough. Please, for me,” Sapphire turned her attention towards her son, holding the boy's hand and pleading for a favor.
The boy's eyes lit up; he eagerly nodded his head and jumped to his feet. “You said it yourself, mother, I owe the Alpha my life, I'll go! Besides, I’m the fastest boy in the village!” The boy didn't look back as he took off, determined to come back only with good news.
In the meantime, Sapphire and Vincent told the Alphas about the problems and dangers that kept creeping on their little community. The majority of faes eyed the men suspiciously since rogues had become a big issue around the area, and only a few of them were capable of taking a rogue and proper wolf apart.
Vlad and Ryder jumped straight into the conversation, eager to come up with a solution. The faes helped them to find Luciano, now they were trying to save his life while a family took the men in and gave all they could, so they had to help.
The Alphas had spent the majority of their lives in luxury, not all of them, but the most significant part, so for a few, it was surprising to see how someone could give so much while they had so little.
The men wondered if the community would accept a few of their guards patrolling around their territory. It wasn't like the faes would have to deal with wolves throughout the day or night, just a few of them running over their lands to ensure more safety.
Besides, the King's guards spent most of their time on patrols, technically making it into a 24/7 advantage for everyone.
As Sapphire and Vincent promised to think about the offer and discuss it with the mothers, Dominic kept staring in the distance. He wanted to help as much as the other two, but he couldn't focus on anything other than his best friend.
Luciano was in the surgery; he trusted faes and their abilities - both medical and magical. The King had to survive for his people, his friends, and most importantly - for the stubborn woman back in the castle.
There was no way Seth would accept his death unless she saw the body right before her eyes. Dominic knew that she was waiting and worrying about Luciano as much as the Alphas did.
Before being a King, he was someone's true love and a friend. No matter how much damage his body had to deal with - it had to keep on pushing for his recovery. Luciano would walk out of that hospital on his own feet, alive, and if not - Dominic would find a way to bring him back from the dead and kill him with his own hands.
He didn't notice how eagerly everyone around him spoke; he was too deep in his thoughts to care. However, he did catch on the sound of tiny feet getting closer to the house nearly instantly.
Jumping to his feet, he turned around to face the door and watch how breathless Leo ran inside. “T- the King.” Leo choked out, struggling to maintain a straight face. The boy panted for breath, reminding a fish that had just been thrown to the shore. Finally, when he managed to calm down a little, Leo kept talking: “The King is awake.”
