CHAPTER 32: Another danger
ALICIA
“Where did you go last night?” I blocked Ross way before he could pass by the hallway. “Where did you go and what time did you go home?”
He raised his brow, pretending to be confused. “What? Are you dreaming? I didn’t go out. I slept early.”
I hissed. “Don’t try to fool me, Ross. Will you? I checked your room last night and you aren’t around. Don’t be such an ass and tell me!” I was already worried because of the blood yet I couldn’t ask him about it.
There’s a lot of things going on inside my mind like how he became a vampire. He was bitten. My blood might be able to heal him, but even Akihiro wasn’t sure of what will be the effect in the long run.
“Alicia, you might be dreaming. I really didn’t go out. Maybe I was in the bathroom.”
Before I could continue what I was saying, I heard my aunt raise her voice, full of concern, so I immediately ran down to check what was happening.
“Oh, my gosh! Dad, what happened to you?” I quickly ran to him. He was bleeding. “Did you get shot? We need to go to the hospital right now!”
“Alicia, calm down. Why would I need to go to the hospital when I have you and Ross, so how about you treat me and let us see if you are learning in your university.”
“Dad, I am not yet a doctor!” I protested. “This might be serious…so please—”
“Alicia, he is a patient. Be a doctor!” Ross pulled me as I was about to cry now.
I held my breath and gathered all my strength. Ross came back with medical tools to check my father. My hands were shaking when I saw the blood…and images started flashing again. I kneeled on the floor.
Fight it, Alicia! You cannot be like this! You are going to be a doctor!
“Alicia, it’s okay.” It was my mother. “Let us just—”
“No!” I said, pushing her a bit. “I need to help my father. I cannot be like this forever.” I said. “Let me check it, Ross!” I raised my voice and immediately tended to my father’s wound.
“Can you operate?” Dad said, and he still has the nerve to joke right now when I am already panicking. “It might be—”
“Dad, please. Don’t joke!” I scolded him. “What just happened? It’s a knife wound.” I said and started cleaning the wounds. “Ross, check if he still has some wounds. Who did this to you, father? Tell me!”
“Alicia, that is not the time for that. Get your diagnosis.” Ross said like it was nothing. They were so calm like it wasn't the first time that happened to Dad when I remembered it to be the first one.
I shut up and continued what I was doing. I was already done cleaning the wound and there’s no blood anymore. It wasn’t a deep cut. At first I thought it was okay, not until I noticed something different in his wound. It wasn’t a normal knife. I am sure of it. And, the inside seems to be burned.
“Dad, what is the knife used in here?” I said, hiding the doubt as I finished stitching it. “It wasn’t deep so it will heal in weeks.” I added. But, I know it will not be easy.
“Just a normal knife, dear. You don’t have to worry. I got it from chasing a criminal we thought was the reason why there’s a lot of killings here.” He explained. He stood up like nothing happened to him.
I stared at him. Dad seems normal, but I cannot just stay calm knowing he might be at risk.
“Who is that criminal? Did you catch him?”
“Unfortunately, he was able to flee. We are still following some leads. So, I advised you to go home early and not spend your time in the club meetings.” He said. “Ross, you should also come home. Your football is a little bit late.”
“I will try, but I am not making any promises. The season will start again so we need to do our best. I’ll take care of Alicia and make sure she goes home safe. We can go home together.”
“Well, then, your father needs to rest.” My mother said, “Good job for this, Alicia and Ross.”
“Are you testing me?” I asked my mother. “You are a paramedic but you didn’t cure him. And, waited in our home so I could see it. Does it mean something else?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“You can say that, dear. And, I am happy you are learning something.” She smiled, not her usual smile. “Now, we have to go. I need to rest as there are still a lot of things that I need to do.”
I watched them leave, followed by my aunt and uncle until Ross and I were the only one left inside the living room.
“Is there something wrong? You weren’t in your usual self?”
I shook my head. “Nothing. Let us just go to school now.”
The first thing I did was to look for Akihiro or some of his pureblood friends since he wasn’t responding to any of my messages since last night. I am worried and at the same I have a lot of things to ask.
Instead of finding him, I found Hades sitting on the president’s table inside our club room.
“What are you doing here? Where is Akihiro? Is there something wrong?” It was when I realized I said something wrong. I shouldn’t be asking that…but it is too late already.
“You didn’t forget everything, right?”
I didn’t respond to that question. “I don’t know why you are here, but you aren't a club member so I appreciate it if you are going to leave.”
“I’m very sorry, Alicia, for disturbing you.” He said, standing.
“Then, you should go now.” I replied to him. “Or do you want to say something to me? Can you please tell me where Akihiro is because I need to talk to him about the script.”
“That is why I am here, Alicia.” He smiled a little.
Just then, I heard someone speak, recognizing Leah.
“That is why we are here, Alicia.”
I felt the dagger in my neck when Leah embraced me. “You need to come with us.”
