Chapter 28

Layla

Where was I? Why couldn’t I move, why were my eyes so heavy? Why was it so dark. I heard the voices in the distant, but it all sounded too jumbled up and loud. I tired moving but couldn’t. What happened to me. I wanted to scream but couldn’t. I heard her, she sounded nice. Marcella, a nurse something bad happened to me but I couldn’t remember what, my heart started beating out of control.

She said Dean and Aleck, I couldn’t control my heart. She said to calm down. I was conscious I could hear but couldn’t move. Everything was dark and it was quiet. I didn’t hear the voices anymore. I just stayed there in the darkness.

“Princess”.

That was Dean. I tried screaming but no sound came out. Why could I speak.

“Baby girl you got to wake up. We need you”.

Aleck. Why couldn’t I say anything what was happening to me. I don’t want to be here. I started crying. I was scared why couldn’t I see them? why I couldn’t speak? why could n’t I do anything but hear them and cry. I felt lonely without them.

“It’s okay princess we’re here. We’re both here. You need to get better. Don’t cry”.
They knew I was crying.

“Mr Cavanaugh, I need to take care of her and feed her. She… she’s crying”

That was the same woman.

“Yes, she’s probably scared” I heard Aleck say

Yes, I was scared. I wanted to leave this place.

“Then we have hope, let’s hope that she wakes up soon”.

“We’ll see you tonight baby girl. Mom is here so is dad and marcella they’ll take care of you. We’re heading to work”.

They were leaving me. I heard her talking To me.


Dean

When I saw that tear escaped her eyes, I knew Marcella was right she was listening to everything. When we got to the office I just felt so defeated. Mac came around nine. I called Aleck to my office.

“Boss the person that posted your identities online was Gregory Morris the father of Lexi and Tina. Macy Andrews have been making the rounds around the city meeting someone however there wasn’t anything recorded on her phone”.

“Mac spread the word Gregory Morris should not work in the industry ever again. Also ruin them make sure he suffers for a while”. Aleck said

“It’ll be done boss”.

When we got home that evening the first thing, we did was check on her. Marcella was sitting beside her reading a book out loud. When she saw us, she nodded. I headed and up to my room and cleaned up. During dinner my mother tried to get us to open up but without her we couldn’t. After dinner I checked back on her. When Marcella saw me she smiled.

“I’ll leave you two alone. She’s already been given her supplements and a bath. Good night, Mr Cavanaugh”.

“Good night”.

When she left, I sat next to her and held her hand.

“I need you princess. When I realised, I was in love with you I was in so much pain because I couldn’t have you. Every boyfriend you had destroyed me. This isn’t about Aleck it’s about me and my feelings princess. When I saw you kiss Nathan that night I felt my heart hurt I was in pain at that moment because I knew Ioved you to the point that I would even give my life for you. I need you to wake up for me please”.

I wiped the tears from her eyes. “Don’t cry princess please. I know you’re probably scared. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. I’m sorry Princess. I need you to try, try and wake up for me. I love you so much that nothing feels right without you. It feels the way we felt when you ditched us. I promise you right now that this will never happen again”.


Aleck

We’ve been taking turns staying with her in the evenings. It’s been three months and no changes. I was sitting in my office when my assistant walked in,

“Mr Cavanaugh there is a miss Rea Kingsley here for you”.

“Sure, let her in, please call my brother for me”

“Yes Sir”

Rea came in, her cast and bandages were gone. We haven’t seen her in the past three months neither have the others because one of them visit us at the office once a week. They mentioned that she always calls them to cheek in and find out about Layla’s condition.

“Hey Aleck. Did you guys move? I checked both the apartments, but it was empty. I even went back to the hospital to visit Layla, but she wasn’t at the hospital what’s going on”? she sat down in the chair opposite my desk.

“Yes. we moved After the address was put online and the incident, we decided to shift somewhere else”.

“Okay. I called the others to ask about Layla, but they said they don’t know where you guys are or what’s going on with Layla”.

“They don’t know because we didn’t tell them where we shifted to or what is happening with her because we don’t want to share that information”.

She leaned over and held my hand which was fucking weird because she’s never done that before.” you guys need to be strong she’ll be okay”. She said squeezing my hands. I brushed it off as her being concerned however she didn’t let go of my hand. I removed her hand, and she just smiled.

“What did the doctor say. When will she wake up and where did you send her”?

“Sorry Rea but I can’t answer any of your questions not because I don’t trust you but because I don’t know. My father took her out of the country for treatment and he won’t tell us where she is or how she is”. I said watching her reaction. Her eyes seem wary, but her expression didn’t change. Dean and I decided to tell all of them the same thing that she was sent overseas, and we didn’t know where and what was happening”.

Just then Dean burst through the door when he saw who was sitting there, he stopped.

“Rea how are you feeling”? he asked her

“I’m Better” she answered smiling.

“Aleck, we have a meeting and we’re late”. Dean said. I know for a fact that we didn’t have any meetings and it was a Friday. Rea stood up and looked at us.
“I’ll let you guys get to your meeting. If you need help or anything at all just remember you can call me”.

“Okay Thanks Rea”. I said looking at her. The minute she left the office Dean walked over and checked to make sure she wasn’t there. “Mom just Called. Her eyes are open”.

“Let’s Go”.

We left the office I told my Assistant I was out for the day. Tony got us home in record time. When we walked in Mom , Dad and Marcella were standing in front of her room door.

“Where is she”?

“Mr Cavanaugh I was explaining to Mr and Mrs Cavanaugh that you need to re-evaluate your friendship. While I was taking care of her, she opened her eyes. She cannot move them, but she can blink. Like I said I’ve had two coma patients before her”?

“When I saw her eyes were opened. I said to her blink once for no and twice for yes. I asked her if she could see me, she blinked twice. I asked her if I should let you know she’s awake she blinked once”.

I looked at dean. “I don’t understand”

“I know Mr Cavanaugh. I asked her if she was afraid of someone she blinked twice. Upon a series of questions, I asked her if I should let you, your brother and parents alone know she can hear she said yes. Please be careful with your questions or you can trigger her back into the coma”.

“Okay we understand”.

When walked into the room her eyes were opened and she just stared straight ahead. I went over and sat next to her. I held her hands.

“Baby girl you're safe here. The only people that kno w youre here is standing in this room. Are you scared of anyone in here”?

She blinked once.

“Okay do you know the person that did this to you”? Dean asked her

She blinked twice. Her heart as beating faster.
“Its okay baby girl. Do we know the person that hurt you”?

She blinked twice. I looked at dean

“Was it one of our friends”? Dean asked her and she blinked twice

“Mallory”? she blinked once

“Andrew’? Dean asked and she blinked once

“Nella”? she blinked once, her hearth was beating faster and her eyes welled up

“Rea”? Dean asked her , she blinked twice and tears ran down the side of her eyes.
