Chapter 49
***CHRIS: Let us go now, or all her pictures and videos will go online automatically if I don’t reset it every five hours.***
I grabbed the laptop and turned it towards him. On the screen, Brian was sitting in front of his computers.
***CHRIS: DON’T FUCKING TOUCH THAT.***
***BRIAN: Oops. Everything’s gone, so fucking sad. I’m burning this shit to the ground, boss.***
***DEAN: Have fun, Brian.***
***CHRIS: You FUCKING IDIOTS, I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU AND THAT BITCH TOO!***
***CAMERON: SHUT THE FUCK UP, CHRIS!***
***ALECK: Oh, it seems like we know who’s the one that’s leading all the shit.***
***CAMERON: It was so fucking easy scaring her. I watched her for years. The minute she enrolled in college, I fell in love with her, and the day I decided to make my move, you two fuckers were with her, always by her side, always close to her, always protecting her. So, I had my brother befriend you. Whenever there was a chance for us to be together alone, we would switch places. You never suspected Chris.***
***ALECK: The threats?***
***CAMERON: I figured if she stayed away from you two fuckers, I could introduce myself. Let everyone know we were twins. But then she fucking left, and I couldn’t find her. I kept searching for her but couldn’t. Then when Chris told me about the reunion, I had the brilliant idea of riling Macy up. I instigated her against Layla. I knew she would fuck up. I didn’t cater for that fucktard Rea almost killing her.***
***DEAN: Her apartment?***
***CAMERON: That was Chris; he was the one in the wedding. The minute she replied to the group chat, I found her, and while she was away, I was in her apartment. Left cameras there. I saw you two fuckers go back.***
***ALECK: So, who put the cameras in our room?***
***CAMERON: Me, she didn’t even doubt me. I asked to borrow her laptop. I saw everything. That’s when I left, and Chris came. YOU FUCKERS TOUCHED HER.***
***DEAN: She is ours.***
***CAMERON: NO, SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINE! SHE WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED ME.***
***ALECK: Shut the fuck up. Nella?***
***CAMERON: That stupid bitch was in love with me, so I just played the fucking part. Killing those two fucking bitches was easy. Next would have been precious Mallory. HAHAHAHA.***
***DEAN: So, the entire time, you were the one with us and not Chris.***
***CAMERON: So. I found her in Brenham. I followed her there. Did you like the videos? I fucked her for hours and enjoyed every second.***
Layla
I didn’t need to hear any more. I stood up and looked at Diego, and I stretched my hand out. He didn’t hesitate. He put the gun in my hand. I removed the safety and walked around and stood in front of Cameron.
***CAMERON: Layla, Layla, so beautiful.***
I bent down and looked at him.
***LAYLA: What was the crate for?***
I overheard the security guards saying he had a crate and was going to kidnap me.
***CAMERON: For you. I would have asked you out on a date and then taken you back to my place. Or wait for you. When you left, I became suspicious. But when you returned with that fucker and everyone acted like they knew him and he was your brother, I started to have second thoughts.***
***LAYLA: Oh, I fucking know. We all saw you wrecking shit. I have a question for you.***
***CAMERON: Anything for you, baby.***
***LAYLA: Did you enjoy raping me?***
***CAMERON: Of course, I did, and I’ll enjoy doing it again.***
I stood up and smiled at him. I shot him in the dick.
***CAMERON: YOU FUCKING BITCH, HOW COULD YOU FUCKING DO THAT TO ME?!***
***LAYLA: How? Just like this.***
I said, shooting him again. He started screaming louder. I walked over to Chris and looked at him.
***LAYLA: Why didn't you tell us the truth?***
***CHRIS: He’s my brother, and I’ll do anything for him. Just like Dean would do anything for Aleck.***
***LAYLA: Well, Dean and Aleck will do something for me. Isn’t that right?***
***DEAN: Anything, princess.***
***LAYLA: You prepared that crate for me, and it’ll be for you. Knock them out, tie them up, put them together in the crate, and bury them.***
***CHRIS: Layla, please!***
***LAYLA: Please? When you and your fucking brother were terrorizing me, did you have a fucking conscience? No, this is what will happen. Since you and your brother will do anything for each other, choose who dies and who lives.***
***CAMERON: Kill him!***
***CHRIS: You fucking bastard.***
***DEAN: Boys, get the tranquilizer and crate ready.***
***ALECK: If you wake up and actually get out, then good luck digging yourself out of the ground.***
***CHRIS: FOR FUCK'S SAKE, WE WERE FRIENDS!***
***ALECK: Friends? No, we were never friends.***
***DEAN: We never knew you, so you’re both strangers who fucked with us and what belongs to us, and now you’ll pay the price for your fuck-up.***
***“Tape their mouths back up,”***
Mac and Diego nodded. They taped their mouths. Dean and Aleck grabbed the tranquilizer from the table.
***DEAN: Any last words?***
***ALECK: They don’t have any.***
Dean injected Cameron, and Aleck injected Chris. Would we go to hell for this? Absolutely. Did I care? No, I didn’t. They tried to ruin the one good thing I had. They had me so afraid. Because of them, I spent years without Dean and Aleck. Within minutes, their heads started drooping.
“Get the crate,” Aleck said, looking at Diego. He just nodded.
“Where are you going to bury them?” I asked.
“Somewhere they’ll never be found. It’s better if you don’t know. Now, Leo is going to take you home. Mal and Andrew are at the apartment. We’ll be home later tonight, okay?” He said, caressing my face.
“Okay.” I kissed them both and left. On the drive back to the airfield, I kept replaying what they said over and over. I would have never been interested in Cameron. As long as I could remember, I had loved Dean and Aleck. I knew I was in love with them at eighteen, before I met Chris or Cameron, whichever one.
Now it was hard for me to trust anyone because of this whole situation. They said Mallory and Andrew were at the apartment; they didn’t say anything about Nella. I needed to start reevaluating everything I know about everyone.
When I walked into the apartment, I saw Mallory. She stood looking at me for a second, then she ran to me and grabbed onto me. “Oh god, you’re safe. You’re okay, and you’re here. What did you do to your hair, you nutcase?” she said, pulling away and looking at me.
“It’s good to have you back. You had us worried,” Andrew said, looking at me.
“I’m sorry for worrying you guys, but I needed to leave,” I said, and suddenly I broke, and the tears came. Mal just held me and let me cry.
“It’s okay, babe, I got you.”
“We trusted him, Mal, we trusted them, and all this while they were so wicked and conniving,” I said through tears.
“I know, I know. But it’s already happened, and we can’t do anything about it now. All we can do is be careful with the people we let into our lives,” she said, rubbing my back.
“I’m sorry. I’m an idiot for crying.”
“I’m going to tell you something my mother said to me. She said this world is full of strangers; some you become neighbors with, some become friends, and as you get older, some of these strangers will become a permanent part of your life. They’ll show you what they want you to see, but you need to know if they’re worthy of your friendship. She said some will hug you and wish you all the happiness in the world while holding a knife to your back. Sometimes you’ll let the wrong people in, and then you’ll be hurt for a while, but you will have learned a valuable lesson,” Andrew said, looking at me.
“Okay, that’s enough crying. Where are Dean and Aleck?”
“They wouldn’t say; they’ll be back later tonight,” I said, taking a seat.
“Okay. I’ll leave you two to catch up. She really missed you, Layla. I’m going to go relax on the balcony,” Andrew said, walking away. I looked at Mallory.
“Does Nella know about any of this?”
“I have no idea, Layla.”
