The Seashell Cave

As Crystal approached the fallacy in front of her, she sensed an eerie cold feeling creep through her body. With all the authority she could muster, she shouted, "Show me your real face!"

Deep down, Crystal understood that albeit that song might have startled her countless times before. Yet, it also held a special place in her heart, offering solace during moments of solitude and despair. The one behind the ethereal song couldn't possibly be devoid of emotions, as if mechanically reciting lines from a mundane children's book. It was a beautiful memory for her.

In response to her command, the sirens' illusion shattered, revealing their true forms. The facade crumbled like a crumbling wall, unveiling a nightmarish sight. Their once enchanting visages contorted into grotesque masks of terror. Their faces were twisted and distorted with prominent nostrils and their sharp, jagged fangs protruded menacingly till beneath their jaws, dripping with a vile substance that glimmered under the faint light of the ocean depths.

Crystal's panic surged as she took in the grotesque sight before her.

Recalling the words of Professor Tetricus in her mind, Crystal grew even more concerned for the safety of her friends. He had taught them that sirens were skilled at creating illusions, and now the danger seemed even more real. And he also mentioned that sirens were afraid of merfolk and their musical voice.

Finally, Crystal heard Flare's voice amidst the crumbling illusion. Flare warned her, "Remain vigilant of the sirens! Your friends are in imminent peril. Employ the power of your voice to drive them away, as they will show no mercy to any of their victims."

Crystal felt goosebumps ripple across her body as Flare's voice resonated in her head through the nothingness surrounding her. She still couldn't see anyone else, only the ghastly sirens closing in on her. The danger was palpable, but she refused to back down.

She clenched her fist, her determination fueling her resolve. Closing her eyes, Crystal steeled herself for what lay ahead. She knew she had to face this challenge, not just for herself, but for the sake of her friends who had risked their lives to be by her side in those dangerous depths.

As she opened her eyes, a surge of rage surged within her. It was as if some unknown force was guiding her like last time, but this time, she was present, fully aware of her actions, with no one controlling her. With a deep breath, Crystal unleashed a wild and piercing shriek that reverberated through the air. The sound was so intense, it could easily rupture the eardrums of a normal human.

The sirens, caught off guard by the sheer power of her voice, covered their elongated and misshapen ears with their eerie hands and cried out in their own horrid voices.

But Crystal didn't stop. She continued to unleash her ear-splitting shriek, relentless in her determination. The sirens, unable to withstand the agonizing noise, forfeited their pursuit and fled in terror, desperately trying to escape the torment.

And Crystal finally took a long breath of relief. The remnants of the sirens' illusions faded away, revealing her friends, Flare, and the illuminating pearl.

Everyone had emerged from their fallacies finally, their faces marked with a mix of confusion and terror. They had all glimpsed the true faces of the sirens, moments before they were about to be devoured, creatures had fled in fear for their lives.

"Oh, I'm so glad you guys are alright," Crystal said, her voice filled with genuine concern. She nervously swam towards them, feeling a sense of guilt for the distress they had endured. As she approached, she enveloped Marina in a quick but tight hug, conveying her relief and affection. The same followed with Aurelius, but when it came to Ambrose, Crystal lingered a little longer in the embrace.

Ambrose felt a warmth spread through his body as Crystal held him close. He blushed, his heart pounding in his chest, and cleared his throat to subtly hint that the hug should come to an end.

As Crystal pulled away, her gaze locked with his, he could see the intensity in her eyes. She was sure about one thing now, even if Madonia did not see Ambrose as a potential partner even if they were betrothed to each other, Crystal for sure did see him as one. She could not deny the emotions she felt just gazing into Ambrose's eyes.

Aurelius, sensing Crystal's lingering gaze towards Ambrose, felt a pang of jealousy. Determined to divert her attention, he quickly pointed out the pearl diving deeper into the depths of the ocean. "Look," he exclaimed, "the pearl is leading us further. We must follow."

Seizing the opportunity, Aurelius reached out and took Crystal's hand, swimming alongside her. Marina and Ambrose followed closely behind. As they moved forward, Crystal's gaze occasionally wandered back to Ambrose, causing a tinge of sorrow to tug at Aurelius' heart. He understood the unspoken connection between Crystal and Ambrose, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of longing for her undivided attention.

Following the guiding light of the pearl, the group arrived at a breathtaking cave. It resembled a huge and magnificent sea shell, adorned with intricate formations of pearls and delicate seashells. As they approached, a soft ethereal glow emanated from within, casting a mesmerizing light on the surroundings. The air was filled with a sweet melody, a song so enchanting that none of them had ever heard its ethereal tune before.

Aurelius's expression turned perplexed as he attempted to swim closer to the cave, only to be met with an unseen force that barred his path.

Crystal, noticing his confusion, furrowed her brows and inquired about the situation. "What happened?"

Aurelius turned to face her, his eyes reflecting a mixture of surprise and frustration. "There seems to be a barrier," he explained, his voice tinged with disappointment.

Marina also reached out her arm, only to encounter the same invisible wall. "Indeed," she confirmed, her voice laced with discontent. "It's like an impenetrable border. What should we do?" Marina looked at Crystal, hoping she would perhaps consult Flare.

However, Crystal took a step forward, extending her hand towards the barrier, and to everyone's surprise, her hand effortlessly passed through the unseen obstacle, and she quickly retracted it, her eyes widening in amazement.

"I think only I can step inside," Crystal said, rubbing her wrist where it had momentarily disappeared through the barrier. The others stared at her in disbelief.

Marina's voice was filled with determination as she said, "You are not going anywhere without us, Crystal. We might find a way together." Aurelius and Ambrose seemed to agree with her, their expressions reflecting their solidarity and concern.

Crystal sighed, shaking her head slightly. She understood their intentions and appreciated their support, but she couldn't shake off the lingering doubt. "Even Flare bounced back after hitting the barrier," she explained. "I believe that me going alone inside might be our last resort."

Crystal attempted to give them a reassuring smile, but it was evident that her friends were still hesitant. Ambrose stepped forward, his grip on Crystal's hand tightening as he sought her attention.

Amidst the crashing waves, Ambrose's words reverberated with a sense of concern. "Consider, for a moment, the possibility of something perilous lurking within the cave. We proved to be nothing against the sirens, and it was you who valiantly took a stand to rescue us. Should any harm befall you within, how then shall we reconcile with our own conscience?"

Crystal was speechless, caught off guard by Ambrose's heartfelt expression. She felt a warmth spread across her cheeks as a blush crept in response to the emotions radiating from Ambrose's aura. His genuine concern touched her deeply.
