39 - Help Her
"How come you're so upset with the poor and the farmer? Hmm?" He cast a peek at her. "I know, someone dared to cheat on you and made you cry, didn't they? So you assumed all men were the same; are you so afraid?"
"You're not going to stop?" She said to him, her face painted with irritation.
"Why?" She's not sure if it's a harmless question or if it's just bothering her.
"If you have nothing sensible to say and know nothing about my life, keep quiet. You don't know what life I'm in now. You don't know me, and I don't care about the nonsense you say against me. So if you don't want me to make your life hell right now while we're on the road, drive quietly there and don't talk to me like we've known each other for a long time because the truth is, you never knew me."
After she said that long line, he was silent on what she said, and she had no remorse. She's direct, and if she doesn't like something, she says so.
"But I'd like to talk to you, eh?" Gheron laughed.
Bullshit!
When Gheron said that, she wanted to swear out loud, and somehow her nose almost came out of smoke, so she closed her eyes and leaned back. She would force herself to sleep until they arrived in Furano City, and maybe Gheron would be quiet because when he saw her sleeping, he stopped disturbing her.
"It's fine if you don't want to talk to me right now. You just responded to my conversation tonight, huh? Also, please accept my Facebook friend request so that I may read your updates.”
She forced herself to calm down, knowing that killing Gheron with the deadly bluntness in her mind wouldn't help her. This is far more irritating than Fidel, and he appears to have no intention of influencing anything she says.
God! What's the deal with Furano City being so far away?
FINALLY, she arrived at the Furano Bank. She walked away from Gheron, telling him that she would figure out how to get back to the farm after withdrawing money. She couldn't keep up with his foul tongue. Whatever toxic and nasty comments she spews at Gheron are meaningless to him.
"Don't be stubborn, let me get you."
He went unnoticed by her. She simply walked into the bank. She still needs to withdraw money and transmit it to the Philippines. She finished fast because there were only a few customers inside the bank. She smiled because she had planned to return to the farm alone. But, her smile disappeared. Gheron waved at her. It smiled sympathetically at her as it stood next to the parked truck.
"Shall we go?" He has a devilish smile. Even with faded trousers and an outdated T-shirt, he maintains a handsome appearance. His long hair, which is tossed by the wind and covers half of his face, is not an impediment.
Don't worry. Keep your cool. She was pleading with herself.
"Marie, what else are you standing there for?" he groaned, not losing his sympathetic smile that he wanted to show everyone how handsome he was. "Would you like me to carry you?"
She also noted that some of the women here, whether Japanese or foreigners are staring at Gheron. Gheron's sex appeal is overflowing, even though he's simply dressed as a tattered peasant, but she's not interested. She took a different path. She immediately flagged down a taxi to take her to the Hokkaido farm. She will only pay dearly if she does not accompany Gheron on the entire trip if they have known each other for a long time in her life. But before she could get into a taxi, she was stopped by a hand on her arm.
"Gheron!" she almost yell, raising her voice in front of it. It was as though all of her rage had built up.
"I thoughtthat money is important to you?" Why are you taking a cab now? Is it because you despise my presence, or because you despise yourself for— "
"Shut up!" She drew her arm back, but kept a firm grip on him.
"Hmm?" he mused. "The truth, like a wild animal, is too powerful to be contained."
"What exactly are you saying?"
"Nothing," he grinned once again. "I'm just paraphrasing what comes out of your mouth."
She shook his hand to get a taxi, but she couldn't go any further because Gheron had already carried her up. He made her look like a newlywed couple conducting a prenuptial agreement in the middle of a crowd.
"Take me down!" she almost scream, refusing to make a fuss. So, even though her nostrils was burning and she wanted to get away from Gheron's embarrassing scene, all she could do was lower her voice so they wouldn't cause a commotion.
"I won't," he responded, smiling and ignoring her weight. "You'll come with me instead of getting that taxi."
Her face was twitching even more. She nearly hit its head with her hand, but she couldn't. “Gheron. Put. Me. Down.”
"My name sounds really sexy. Do it again," he said, winking at her.
Her brow wrinkled. She has no concept of what he means sexy.
"Say, 'Gheron, please take me down, again."
"One!"
"You know, when I was in primary school, my teacher was afraid when I did the counting." Gheron began to step forward as he ignored her warning glance. "But now that you're counting, my body is shaking, and my heart is thrilled. Another one, Marie?"
She punched him in the chest, but Gheron only chuckled at her, as if he had no intention of bringing her down.
"You rode with me going to Furano, so you will ride with me back to farm. Do not be hard-headed. Many were hurt being hard-headed," Gheron simply said after she was lowered in front of the delivery truck. "And don't try to take a taxi again, I'll tell the Team Leader that you're so judgmental and you don't like the company's truck."
She wanted to kill him! If only she could. Her face darkened as if she were riding in the truck without saying a word, and her silence on one side matched Gheron's blabbering.
"Did you know that a smile looks better on you?"Gheron muttered to her as the car's motor began to start; he didn't even feel like she was disgusted by his presence now. "I'm hungry," he later said while his eyes were fixed on the road.
She didn't respond; she didn't care if his mouth ran out of speech. She couldn't accept the fact that he pulled her up only to ride back into the truck.
Prepare for the consequences later!
Her heart was pounding of extreme anger! No one could come close to her and hold her hand, so how could this man, a newcomer to Japan and just a poor farmer, hold her hand like that?!
"Let's go to my favorite pastries in Saiwaicho once we deliver these fruits."
Her brow furrowed as she turned to face him, wondering who granted him permission to proceed through the Saiwaicho?
"Damn, you're staring at me again." He gave her a silly grin.
She turned her attention to the car window. Gheron never gets tired of smiling. It's similar to a dog. When her phone rang, she looked at it. Even though she knew it was her sister, she smiled right away.
Have you sent it yet, big sis? I'm in desperate need of money right now. You are aware that Mom does not have any money. Even if she has money, she is not going to give it to me.
She took a big breath before beginning to click her touch screen phone, which she had to use for almost 6 years. The screen has cracks as well, but it still works and is useful, so it's fine. Most importantly, she uses it to communicate with the province.
I've already dropped the money off at the bank. It includes everything you need. Please say hello to Mom once more.
She sent it after typing it. She waited a few seconds after seeing her message to see if her sister would respond.
"Is she your sister?"
She said nothing in response to Gheron's question. She remained waiting for Marites, but it never responded after she saw her messages, so she just sighed quietly.
"I recognize that expression," he said. He doesn't appear to be bored of asking questions and conversing with her while driving. "They're taking advantage of you."
Her ear immediately rang in response to what the man had stated. When she glanced at him, her eyes were razor-sharp. "Shut up if you don't know."
He shrugged and nodded. "Some people enter your life simply because things are going well for you. But when things go wrong, they are nowhere to be found. In other words, people only remember you when they have a problem. When you offer them exactly what they desire. But if you're not, what happened to them? There is nothing for you."
"What exactly are you saying?"
When she looked at her, it merely winked at her.
She just stared at the man, then back out the window, putting her ancient cell phone in her pocket and mentally counting how many kilometers they were still away and she was ready to get off.
"I guess they love you because you have money," Gheron said, "Since that's where it's built on love today, family or not. People will love you depending on what you provide, how much money you have."
"Would you just stop?" she demanded, her gaze still fixed on the outside. Her voice had already become angry. "If you don't want to remain quiet, just commit suicide."
"You'll be the one to grieve if I kill myself."
She closed her eyes and covertly rolled her eyeballs about. They are strangers to one another. She had no idea, and anything like this would make her blood boil.
She felt the truck stop a few moments later. She no longer opened her eyes to look around to see where they were. She was aware that they had arrived at a large store to deliver the fruits they had brought.
"Sleep there first, since I'm going to wake you up with a kiss later—"
"Just give it a shot," she threatened as she looked at Gheron.
"I will, babes," he said, laughing as he walked down and even managed to wink at her.
They stayed for an hour before leaving. She assumed they were returning to the Farm, but she was mistaken. Because Gheron was serious about going Saiwaicho. Her heart dropped as she saw the name of the pastries where they had stopped in Saiwaicho. 'Furano Patisserie Tronc.'
"Come down, we'll just dine inside for a little bit," he added quickly as he stepped down and moved to open the door for her.
She just stared at him, ignoring everything Gheron said. Eat everything on your own! She isn't a lover of pastries. She isn't a big fan of sweets.
"If you don't come down there, I'll carry you." He sniggered foolishly, and even with that smile, he looked insane.
Her gaze became more intense on him, and she began to raise her voice. "I will inform Mrs. Ajinomoto about this!
He was stunned for a time, and she won, but she swiftly lost her victory as Gheron chuckled.
