Chapter 12: In Which She Isn't Happy
More than a week passed since the incident at the plaza and even though Isla's dreams were plagued with the events of that evening at times, she had gotten over it more or less because of Ace and Alexander.
Alexander was quiet and brooding as always but he had warmed up a little bit more to her when she had actually buggered him enough to play fetch with Ace plus Ace seemed to have taking a liking to Alexander as well.
Currently Alexander was off handling some of Mr. Gambino's dealings, leaving Isla with her other bodyguard Rolfe.
Her bodyguard Rolfe who filled in whenever Alexander wasn't around, if she was being honest scared the shit out of her. He was in his late 40s and completely unapproachable with that stone cold face and huge stature. Eventhough, Alexander was always stone faced too but there was something tender in Alexander's dark eyes when they met hers each time that made her feel at ease and comfortable unlike with Rolfe who even though never gave her a reason to doubt him in sense didn't make her feel like she did when Alexander was near.
Hence, she decided to just grab a good book lay down on the couch in the library with Rolfs standing guard at some far corner.
She had Ace curled up on her stomach taking a nap while she read Hopeless by Colleen Hoover.
She was lost in the book for maybe an hour or two before a guard came to retrieve her.
"Miss Gambino, Mr.Gambino requests your presence in his study" He said, arms behind his back as waited patiently for her.
She sat up straight placing Ace on the couch softly.
"Any particular reason?" she asked fixing her hot pink sweater that she paired with black jeans.
"He didn't inform me of it Miss, only asked me to get you" he replied and Isla nodded getting up from her seat on the couch as the guard guided her to her father's study with Rolfe following behind.
Once they were outside his study Isla knocked and heard the faint come in before she turned the knob walking inside. Rolfe who was about to follow her right in was stopped at the door, apparently her father wanted to meet with her privately.
"Hey dad" she greeted nervously.
"There you are, Sit with me little moon" Richard said patting the place beside him on a two seater couch lightly.
"You needed something dad?" She asked confused as to why her father called her.
"Well... in fact I do, I need you to meet with Jamerson tomorrow, he is flying in from Montana tomorrow, he had been away on business in Italy and he wants to see you tomorrow. He invited you to his yacht for dinner" Richard explained, his face emotionless unlike Isla's whose face contorted into one of distress.
"Dad you know I don't like him, why do you keep doing this to me" she cried out.
"You know he is your fiancé Isla, I don't want to hear you say something like that in front of him it would potentially ruin our alliance" Richard's words were cold.
"But I don't wanna marry him!" She exclaimed her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
"Enough Isla! We have been through this before and I don't want you to say another word of contempt regarding your marriage with Jameson Siegel because it's going to happen one way or another I'd rather that it be peacefully" Richard raised his voice at her, his words causing the tears in her eyes to roll down her cheek.
"And you say you love me..." she let out meekly but even that emotional blackmail of sorts didn't work.
"Isla Moon, I do love you and that is why I am doing this. This marriage won't only come with a strong beneficial alliance considering he owns the whole of Montana, you will also be the First Lady, he'll keep you happy and give you whatever your heart desires most importantly he'll be able to keep you safe. He is perfect for you my darling, you might not see it now but you will later and there are still six months till your marriage commences maybe your mind will change by then. Now I need you to meet up with him tomorrow and I don't want to hear another word of disdain regarding this this whole arrangement from you or there will be consequences you understand?" Richard warned, his words leaving no room for argument.
By consequences he meant he'd lock her up in her room with guards placed 24/7 outside her room and not let her out till she agreed with him. That's what Isla moon had been dealing with her whole life, she felt extremely caged.
She meekly nodded, the tears still wet cascading down her face as she got up from her seat on the couch and made her way out without another word or glance towards her father.
Alexander had just been back from a mission where he was supposed to be closing a deal with a potential alliance but that backfired when that potential alliance had started firing on them instead. It seemed that Mr.Gambino had A LOT of enemies.
So in conclusion, he ended up shooting them all dead instead.
As soon as he'd returned, he freshened up and went searching for Isla, there was this craving he had to see her beautiful face and hear her melodic voice after all that blood and gore.
After searching a few minutes he couldn't find Isla in the potential places that she would be.
"Where is Miss Gambino" he asked, his words cold towards the guard standing right at the doorway of the main house.
"She was summoned by Mr. Gambino to his study" the guard replied.
Without another word or thought Alexander took quick long strides to Mr.Gambino's study.
Upon reaching there he found Rolfe standing right outside and nodded at him as a gesture of some sort of greeting.
"He wanted to meet with her privately, I'll take my leave now" Rolfe said before taking off and Alexander took his position in his place.
He was anxious to know what was so important that he wanted to meet with her alone but none of that anxiousness was shown on his face.
Only moments later the door knob turned and Isla came out closing the door lightly behind her.
Her face was half shielded with a curtain of her long silky black hair as she just walked forward without noticing Alexander's presence.
Her behaviour had him confused but upon taking a closer look Alexander saw the tears running down her face like a waterfall as her full red lips were pulled in a pout making her look like a kicked puppy as she very lightly sniffled.
Alexander's jaw ticked in anger at whatever or whoever had made her cry.
